Comments about PRS SE Singlecut Korina Electric Guitar:
Actually prefer this guitar to my Gibson LP Std Trad Plus & Studio Faded - anathema, I know.
Pickup's output & tone between Gibson 57 (dark PAF) and Burstbucker Pro (bright PAF) - love 'em.
All's super good, except for what was mentioned under "Quality" (low frets & stupid looking SE logo).
The light body and fatter neck are a prescription for good tone, and this guitar does not disappoint.
Korina body & neck w/lovely transparent golden finish.
PAF style pups.
Hardtail.
Everything I like in a guitar!
Solid, well made guitar, except TWO COMPLAINTS...
1) Frets are low and wide (typical of many asian import guitars). Would have been much better if spec'd w/6105 (tall & narrow) or jumbo (tall & wide) style frets. While I love this guitar, it was nearly returned because of the lame frets! (For what it's worth, the fret work was good, even though I hate the frets themselves).
2) Cheap looking SE on the headstock really takes away from everything that's good about this guitar. G&L adopted the idea of having a usual logo with "tribute" in small letters on their import line. PRS certainly could have done something similar instead of adding a gaudy "I'M AN IMPORT GUITAR" logo. Makes me wonder why they went out of their way to build a great guitar only to ruin it w/ a unclassy decal.
Comments about PRS SE Singlecut Korina Electric Guitar:
I traded a nice combo amp for this guitar. The neck is comfortable in the upper range but near the nut it will take a little time to get used to. This is not negative, just different. Finish is nice and not too thick and tone killing like a lot of new guitars. Pickups are honest and match my style. Hardware is simple but good quality and effective. Light weight and comfortable to play. Looks great. I use this guitar instead of my investment grade instruments live. It delivers. If you can play a little then this guitar will reward you.
Comments about PRS SE Singlecut Korina Electric Guitar:
I have been playing this guitar for a little while now and it has smooth, honest tones, good looks, and is pretty fairly priced. The playability is OK on the higher frets, although it would be easier to get your thumb on if it were like a strat. The pickups are alright but sometimes get a little flangy when on high gain settings on the amp. I wouldn't use this for any real heavy music, but it sounds great with some reverb on the clean channel. I would recommend it to a blues, jazz, or rock guitarist who's looking for a reliable midrange axe. The reason I gave it 4 and 4.5 in the ratings section is because it doesn't have the specifications someone like me, who plays lots of metal and is trying to learn to shred. It just doesn't have the best playability for real fast movement and the pickups aren't the greatest FOR METAL. Someone who plays different types of music (lighter) would probably give this guitar a better review and like it more, though. This isn't supposed to be a negative review, the guitar is good, it's just not what I want personally.
Comments about PRS SE Singlecut Korina Electric Guitar:
I'm not really sure how to score this guitar using the ratings feature provided, so I did the best I could on that. Let me just say, as the first to review this axe, that I am already quite fond of it, and I only got it today. Perhaps it isn't pro quality, but I'm not a pro, so it doesn't concern me. It seems nicely put together and everything works, and perfect for a beginner/hobbyist like me. The guitar is very light, with a gloss finish that somehow doesn't show fingerprints. Reaching the upper frets, if you're concerned about that as I was never having played a singlecut, is no problem at all, and I have small hands. Also, same for the "wide/fat" neck -- it doesn't seem especially wide or fat to me, and no problem for small hands. The only flaw I can mention is not specific to this guitar, but apparently common to PRS SE models, since my hollowbody SE was the same way: the rosewood they use for the fretboard is imperfect. This is a cosmetic thing only, and doesn't affect playability. The hollowbody fretboard I had was seriously flecked with yellowish grain and specks. The fretboard on this one is discolored and murky-looking in areas -- you can even see it if you look close at large pictures elsewhere on the web that show the neck. Again, this is basically a cosmetic flaw, and probably due to using slightly inferior materials overseas. It doesn't bug me, but let the buyer be aware of it beforehand. I like the guitar, and plan to hang onto it. Plus, mine came with a maroon gig bag, and judging by this and the previous one, PRS supplies the nicest gigbags I have ever seen. I had a Fender gigbag that was so lousy I threw it away, but this one is a keeper as well.
