Comments about Rainsong Black Ice Series BIJM1000N2 Graphite Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I played my first Rainsong guitar over 10 years ago. I was not impressed at the time. The sound was very shrill and brittle. Wow, they have made great progress since then. This is a great guitar. All the advantages of composite materials, with very few of the disadvantages. First, the guitar just sounds great - like a cross between a Taylor and a Gibson J-200 (in a good way). The lows are very present but well balanced with the mids and highs. The highs are present but not shrill - more bell like. The note separation is particularly good.
The neck is wider than typical which is great for fingerpicking but doesn't hurt strumming styles either. I prefer having it this way now but it does take a little getting used to. So the guitar sounds and plays great and I will definitely be keeping it. Here are my few nitpicks for those of us wishing for perfection. The guitar comes with Fishman electronics and I would have prefered it without. The fretboard edges are a little sharp and might cause problems during prolonged play. The fretboard is also very flat which makes some things easier and somethings more tiring. I'd prefer a little more radius for when I'm playing a lot of bar chords. This guitar uses bridge pins which is traditional, but an un-neccessary evil these days. And lastly, is the finish. Rainsong might find beauty in the raw graphite weave but I do not. I would prefer some sort of painted finish distinguish my guitar from the rest.
These minor nitpicks aside, it is really a well built, fine tuned instrument. The workmanship is spectacular and it feels like it is definitely worth the money. Oh, and by the way, it's LOUD.
