Got my order quickly and on time. packaged well. Beautiful lacquered finish soundhole decor is nice, no blemishes at all. Tuned up well, very decent strings, Holds it's tune very well. The tone is a little bit on the treble-y, tinny side, but very clear and resonate. Intonation is fine. Plays easily, not hard to fret at all. My only major "complaint" is the frets were not filed down well at all. In fact, I keep having to pull fibers off of the ends of the frets where my (microfiber) shirt keeps getting caught in them. But I suppose I can file them down myself. The other "flaw" I've found right off is the tuning machines were not aligned very well (not stright in their placement, some are turned at almost 10 degrees or so) on the headstock. Though this will not affect playability, it does show they were perhaps applied in a haphazard manner. All it would've taken is applying a straight edge or ruler to the headstock while placng them. Very poor, and so easy to have been done correctly. The treble-y sound does add dimension/ alternative sound to the collection of guitars I have, just from an "interest" point of view. This would be a great starter guitar or for camping or kids' guitar because of the low low price, but not a very fulfilling "rich sound" experience. Again, I'd highly recommend as a good starter.

Pay for the next Rogue up and right now it is the same price and the one above it is a dreadnaught and it survived a tour in Iraq and is now used in a church in Uganda. Awesome piece of art.
It's that, a starter guitar. Like the other raters said, some got good action some don't. I ordered two, one had good action, the other did not. I now see cracks in the back finish giving the impression it is not solid wood or plywood even, it is particle board and veary easy to break. Both guitars have chunks broken out of the back of the guitars and hardly even used. I put them in my classroom and my students are rough on them, but one looks like it was kicked, but I didn't see it. The back of the guitar is fragile and proven when a chip broke off the back of the second guitar with just playing for five minutes. The students are afraid to play them because they fear getting blamed for the crumbling backs.
CHeap is cheap and these are cheap. I had a Rogue guitar free with guitar strings and thought these were like that one, but not so.
High action and fragile wood.

Good small size practice guitar

Comments about Rogue Starter Acoustic Guitar:

I've been learning guitar for a little over a year and purchased this guitar in the walnut color because of it's small size for use as a take along practice guitar. When I received the guitar and began tuning it, I noticed a snapping noise in the neck area. There was a portion of the neck brace inside the guitar missing/broken off...I have to give Musicians Friend a "five star rating" because when I contacted them, they immediately sent me a another guitar and a prepaid return label to return the defective guitar. The new guitar was in excellent condition, tuned up great and sounds good for a small guitar. the string action was a little high but a minor bridge adjustment solved that. Great take along practice or campfire guitar. It's defiantly not a martin but if your looking for a good take along practice guitar for the money, you cant beat it and the musician's friend people were great to do business with....I recently purchased two more of these, the natural and the black as gifts and both were in excellent condition. defiantly would buy again.

Got this for my 1st grade son to start learning. 7/8 size is a tad smaller than full size and fits him well. Obviously not as carefully made as a higher end guitar. It plays very well, stays in tune okay, sounds decent. It would be a great starter for anybody.Honestly for the price, you can't go wrong with this one.

I have bought this guitar in the 'natural' finished several times just to tralve or throw around and it is great. The black one was not very good and hardly playable.

I think the natural one is a laminate and the black one is painted wood so there is a difference in the construction .

Get the laminate natural wood one and you will probably get a much better guitar. It sounded much better too (though you would think the laminate would not)!

Comments about Rogue Starter Acoustic Guitar:

I have been playing guitar for 50 years and was looking for a cheap guitar to take camping, to the beach, etc. Didn't have to be anything special, just playable.

After reading the reviews, I ordered the Walnut version. Upon opening the box I was immediately impressed by the color and finish- looked like a much more expensive guitar (except for the plastic bridge).

I tuned it up and the tone was fine- about what you'd expect for a guitar in this price range. Intonation was good.

Unfortunately, once I got to the 6th fret- everything was down hill. Horrible buzzing on every string on every fret past the 6th up to the 12th fret- rendering the guitar completely unplayable from the 6th fret up.

Upon sighting down the neck- I could see it was not perfectly straight, with a slight twist as well. Neither a Truss Rod adjustment or raising the bridge saddle with shims helped.

I returned it and will try one more time. Very disappointing considering all the positive reviews. Hoping the next one will be better. Perhaps I just got that stray lemon!

I am just a beginner trying to teach myself how to play so I can teach my son how to play because he has shown an interest. This guitar is actually meant for him when he grows into it. I am petite in the torso so this guitar is a little big for me but I am learning to work around it. I know it stays in tune well because when I go to tune it at the beginning of my practice session most days I don't have to do anything except for maybe a little tweaking on a string or two. I love the rich color and the sound. I played an instrument in high school so I know a little about music and sound and this guitar has a nice tone to it.

Bought for my teenage daughter to learn. Love the 7/8 size for smaller hands. However, will not stay in tune which is an issue for a beginner. If I can fix it to stay in tune and buy better strings, this guitar will be great for it's intended purpose.
