Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Hellraiser Special Solo-6 Electric Guitar:
Got this one on sale a few weeks ago. Before this, I was using a bronze series BC Rich, so obviously this guitar would be an obvious upgrade in all respects.
For one, this guitar is beautiful! Looks even better in person. The craftsmanship on this guitar is incredible considering how much I paid for it. The neck was a little thicker and more rounded than my B.C Rich but I think it actually fits my hand better. Although the neck only has 22 frets, it does make playing the lower notes towards the headstock a tad easier. I'm not much of a shredder yet so I guess the lower amount of frets works for me.
I think the selling point for this guitar and for other people who are looking to jam metal is the EMG 81/85 combo. The EMG 85 (bridge) is great for that Hi-Gain trebly distortion. I play genres such a Black Metal, Hardcore Punk, and Thrash Metal, and it's a good active pickup for styles like that.
I think the only thing that could be a drawback to this guitar is its weight. I believe it weighs about 10 pounds, tons heavier than my B.C Rich, but I don't mind it and I'd honestly rather have a solid feeling piece of equipment. Obviously if you're use to playing paper light Jacksons or Ibanez's, you'll definitely have to adjust to this guitar. Also, the fretboard is a little rounded and the spacing between the strings closer, so if your use to playing wizard necks, you'd probably have a hard time adjusting to a Schecter neck.
Overall, this guitar has been an absolute blast. For the price and quality I think Schecter guitars are definitely a great option for people wanting to play Rock or Metal.I plan to continue practicing and jamming with friends on it for years to come.
