I bought a Schecter S-1 Elite a few weeks ago, mostly as a back up for my main Les Paul Standard. All in all, I'm very satisfied with it. It feels somewhat like a Paul, although it has the longer, scale of a Strat (25.5"). The body is relatively thick, although not quite as thick a Les Paul's. The S-1, however, is substantially lighter -- a plus for long practice sessions. The look of this guitar is truly outstanding (I have the reddish version); the binding and inlays are spectacular. The playability is excellent also, as is the tuning stability. I find the ergonomics to be pretty good, although it's a little hard to reach the 22nd fret (about the same as a Les Paul in this regard). I've heard other reviewers complaining about its being "neck heavy" and hence unbalanced (like a lot of SG's are). I don't find this to be true of the S-1. Now, here are my gripes: First, I don't like the bridge pickup. It sounds really great with distortion, but doesn't give a good bright, clean sound. If you're a heavy rocker who never turns off the distortion, you'll probably be happy with it, but I replaced it with a DiMarzio PAF-PRO, which I much prefer. Also, on my S-1 the fretboard inlays are dark gray rather than white, which makes them hard to see -- especially on dark stages (the side markers are okay, though). Finally, the push-pull tone pot is the kind that you have to pull down to about 4 before the treble starts disappearing (I've noticed this on other cheap push-pull pots). All in all, I like the S-1 Elite. It's got the look, the playability, and is a very good value for the money. It'd probably be my main axe if I could see the fret inlays a little better.

I give this these ratings because my guitar was a piece of work. The action was very high, I lowered it, and it made a lot of loose sounds. My string kept popping off of the bridge, and a lot of other very bad ordeals. I also had to send it back and get another one. I'm going to try out the ESP LTD MH400.

    Amazing Guitar

    By Anonymous

This is by-far the best guitar I have ever bought. Trust me it is worth the money. The sound quality is amazing. I berly ever have to tune it because it is made so well it doesn't come out of tune. The paint on it is flawless. It is a very good looking guitar. Just the other night a played at a concert and I got a lot of people that told me I have a nice guitar and asking were I got it.

    Lightweight, fast action! Awesome!

Schecter is just a truly amazing company. Anyone who buys anything else is just cheating themselves out of extra money for an amp or something else.I own a C-1 Plus and I thought it was the best guitar on the market, until I played the S-1 Elite. The difference in sound is minimal, but the weight is where this guitar shines. I first saw this at a shop on vacation and fell in love with the design and abalone binding. I just sat and stared at it for 15 minutes in awe. When I finally got it down and held it, I was in shock. It weighs, easily, half of what the C-1 Plus does, if not a third. It is one of the lightest guitars I have ever held and it plays and sounds every bit as good as any guitar I have ever played. The Action is just amazing and is great for virgin guitarists or those who have been playing for 40 years. It is a great piece to look at and even better to play. Dont pass this one up!You will not regret buying this guitar.

    Amazing Tones and Looks!!!

    By Soloist2000

Just received the Cayman Blue today. Looks are awesome, feel is great, tones are endless, and all for $350.00. You can't go wrong with this guitar. It screams in highs, has mellow lows, frets are nicely dressed and fat, and a neck that is so smooth you can easily mistake it for a guitar 5 times its price. Only complaint is if you have big hands it is hard to hit those higher notes lower on the fret board with blazing speed, but its not that much of a problem after you get used to the back of your hand touching the horn.

    A guitar worth the money

I bought this guitar a week ago and am still as amazed as I was when I first plugged her in. It has the most comfortable neck I have ever had in my hands. Playability is smooth and you have access to anywhere you want to go with a mild exception to the very upper frets, but let?s be real, how many guitars out there aren?t like that. Awesome attack. It has sound and sustain that is more than adequate for most any style of Rock and Metal you might play. The Single Coil tap feature is great for playing the Blues and works good. I have the Black Cherry colored C1, and the whole guitar is an absolute work of art? It?s simply gorgeous! All in all, this is a real god guitar, however, there were a few things I didn?t like. I had to take the action up little higher than I wanted to due to some fret buzz I was getting off the top E string, but no biggie, The front pick up is weak and muffled sounding, but not a big problem for me because I seldom ever use it. And it doesn?t stay in tune any better than most other guitars I have played with the same kind of set up.The guitar is gorgeous, addicting, and down right fun to play. In my opinion, it?s more suited for the 70?s 80?s Rock and Blues guy, but add a pedal and a Marshall Stack and any metal player out there would have death in their hands! I recommend this guitar to anyone and at the price, you would not be doing yourself wrong to pick one up.

    great sound and playability

    By James Schavey

    from Hobart,In

I,ve owned this guitar for 3 or 4 years now, played it for weeks at a time, it stays in tune, the playability is awsome, the sound and sustain are superb, the only fault I can give it is the pickups are duncan design, but that I changed by adding EMG 81/85.

    FREAK'N SWEET!!!!!!

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

Almost three years ago, I began playing the guitar, and all I had was a crappy acoustic and a pathetic excuse for a stratocaster wich was always sharp for some reason. But alas! Sometime last fall, I discovered the shining light at the end of the tunnel of cheap instruments: the S-1 elite. A powerful, hard rock'n instrument with the unmatchable power of two open-coil duncan-designed pickups, a lovely rosewood fretboard with stunning inlays, and a coil tap designed to unlock a crystal-clear acoustic style sound. OK, maybe that's a bit overglorified, but this is my first professional instrument, and I truly couldn't be much happier with it. Sure, there some buzzing, and the jack sucked (I had it replaced), but overall I find this instrument to be of excellent quality, maximum design, lightweight, and, of course...FREAK'N SWEET!!!!!

    my pride and joy

    By Acacia

This is a great instrument. Plays very well, comfortable, great sound. My first choice out of my guitars for writing and just sitting around playing even when I don't have have an amp. I have had it for a few years and it has accommodated my change in music style. I am very pleased and recommend it highly for any style of play.

    An excellent hard rock/metal guitar

    By Vtastic_15

    from Georgia

This guitar has a very great value for the money. I try to be a very versatile guitar player, and I play everything from blues to death metal when trying out guitars. That being said, this guitar was a raging machine of distortion, but when playing soft rock and blues, it wasn't up to par. However, if you don't mind the lack of softness, then this guitar is great! A couple problems I had were that the tone knobs were loose and the input jack was loose, which could have been because of either sub-par craftsmanship or because other people had tried this guitar before me. But, all in all, it is a perfect guitar for hard rock/metal music.

    Schecter s-1 elite black cherry

    By Fendercaster

    from Redlands, CA

The input jack is always cutting the sound out and my knob fell off. It plays alright but not amazing. I wish I would have fixed my rg4exqm1 instead of trading it for this it's okay but nothing special not impressed. Doesn't make playing effortless or you more creative in my opinioin. Play before buying.
