Seagull

A great sounding twelve-string that will stay in tune!

The Seagull Coastline Series S12 is a cedar top dreadnought guitar with a rich, full sound that only a quality 12-string guitar can produce. With a warm mid-range tone and of course, the award winning craftsmanship and value Seagull is known for, the S12 Dreadnought features an ultra thin semi-gloss finish, a select pressure tested solid cedar top, and eco-friendly wild cherry back and sides.

12-string guitars must endure a great deal of added stress on the neck. The Seagull neck design offers superior stability, even on 12-string guitars tuned to concert pitch. The straight string pull of the tapered Seagull headstock is an especially big advantage when it comes to tuning a 12-string guitar and keeping it in tune.

Guitars in the Seagull Coastline series are among the world's outstanding values in acoustic guitars. The back and sides of Coastline series guitars are crafted from a 3-layer lamination of wild cherry wood. With a sound that lands somewhere between the mellow tone of a mahogany guitar and the bright sound of maple, wild cherry has proven itself to be an excellent tone wood. Grown locally, wild cherry is also an ecologically friendly choice. Seagull Coastline series guitars feature very smooth necks made from Silver Leaf Maple.

Comments about Seagull Coastline Series S12 Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

I've had several guitars over the years, including 12 strings. If it has strings on it I've probably owned or played it! The S12 is the best 12 string I have owned or played. It stays in tune and most importantly it frets easily! If you're looking for a acoustic 12 string this is your guitar-especially for the price. I've had or played top name 12 strings that cost 5 to 10 times as much and don't play or sound 5 to 10 times better. Try it, buy it.

Comments about Seagull Coastline Series S12 Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

I have owned one of these for over 6 years now. I had a budget of more then twice the value of this guitar but I picked this one over more fancy instruments simply because of the sound and playability.

It projects very well and it's the only instrument I never adjusted the action. It aged well and sounds better now. It doesn't have the spark of an high end Taylor, but it sounds better then any Martin or Takamine 12 strings I have tried. Doesn't have scalloped braces, is a bit neck heavy and has laminated sides and back, but it still ages well and is a perfect instrument for camping and jamming by camp fire.

Its construction is meant to survive the harsh temperature and humidity changes of Canadian climate, making it more sturdy then any fancy instrument on the market. When humidity changes in North Carolina, my expensive Taylor guitars are dramatically shifting shape, it's scary, but not my Seagull. It's built like a tank.

I recorded with it and was very satisfied by the detailed sound. One thing I like from it is that when I dig it hard, the prominent voice makes the 12 strings sound slightly compressed/overdriven. It's quite unique for an acoustic instrument. When playing by campfire on camping site, neighbours are attracted by the unusual pretty loud sound since people are not used to loud 12 strings sound.

Comments about Seagull Coastline Series S12 Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

I own two electric 12 strings but this is my first acoustic 12. It has a rich full sound with plenty of volume. The finish was great, frets were trimmed and smooth. The action is good with no fret buzz right out of the box. It is also cool that it is not made in the 3rd world, but in Canada, despite the reasonable price. I would recommend this guitar to anyone.

Comments about Seagull Coastline Series S12 Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

Bought mine at a local guitar shop a few years ago. Normally I play a 6-string electric, but wanted ONE 12-string acoustic/electric in my arsenal. For a 12-string in the $5XX range, this guitar is as good as you're going to get. The only guitars I tried out that were even a TAD better, were 3X to 4X the price.

Mine has an internal pickup, which I have never used, so No Comment on the electronics. I switched the strings to "Earthwood" which have a little silk in them. Softer on the fingers, gives up a little of the Tone, but I'm happy with them.

Mine stays in tune OK, but after playing 2 or 3 songs, I need to tune it a bit. I view this as fairly NORMAL for 12-strings (please correct me if I'm off base on this). With this guitar, I do mostly Rhythm, but an occasional Lead hook is do-able. The harder you push it, the better it sounds. NO FRET BUZZ.

Most lower-priced 12-strings are real BACKBREAKERS to play, which is a huge discouragement, so I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this 12-string Seagull. A VERY PLAYABLE instrument with nice looks and great sound, and it won't break the bank!!

Comments about Seagull Coastline Series S12 Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

It is the best guitar I have handled in 30+ years of playing. The tone is clean and beautiful and consistent all the way up the neck. It will play sweet and gentle and maintain its tone through hard strumming as well. The set up of the strings is perfect. It stays in tune (rare indeed for a 12). And to top it off, it looks great.

Comments about Seagull Coastline Series S12 Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

Seagull has a proud manufacturing heritage from the Godin stable but at a more affordable pricetag and better than expected performance.

The rich fullness of the lower ranges and the distinct mid to high ranges of this magnificent piece of solid Cedar, makes this beauty a worthy candidate in any concert hall, e.g. the performance it was put to in Sarah McLachlan's acoustic/electric rendered songs.

I found mine in a boutique styled music store in a small town in South Africa in 2002, packaged and shipped from Quebec.

It was virtually in tune out of the box!

Every note played since has been pure musical pleasure. This is the poor man's Bentley of guitars... and it drives as smoothly!

Comments about Seagull Coastline Series S12 Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

I had it for close to three years now, never once regretting buying it as I have with other 12-strings. It is very easy to do the barre chords, especially for an acoustic 12-string. Rather easy to go up and down the fretboard. It was set up fairly nice, I did have the bridge milled down a small amount last year. Another surprise to me was the bass end of it is not as passive as others seem to be. A person can clearly hear the bass notes when picked. The treble end does not seem to be as high pitched as some others I have had either. So the whole tonal ability is rather uniform, not favoring either the highs or lows. It certainly is not the quietest one I have had either, it can project the sound too. I have not played in a band for decades now, but have played at partys, and the local VFW a few times lately. The guitar seems to be my conversation piece. I never imagined WIld Cherry as a guitar wood, the Seagull co. knows what they are doing.
