OVERVIEW

Renowned sound and feel with modern refinements.

The Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '60s is a rough-and-tumble electric guitar ready for almost any musical situation. With an alder body; rosewood fingerboard; 21-fret, vintage-tint gloss maple neck, this Strat definitely has that '60s vibe but with the modern playability of a 9-1/2" neck radius and medium-jumbo frets. This Squier Strat's tone is thick with a custom set of Alnico V single-coil pickups-a quick attack with a bit more midrange oomph and a bridge pickup that packs a knockout punch! Custom stagger pole pieces provide improved string-to-string balance.

Classic Vibe!

Back in 1982, the very first Squier by Fender guitars and basses came ringing out of Asia. Known for their excellent vintage-quality look, feel, sound, and construction, those early Squier instruments and their Fender-branded counterparts are now highly sought-after collector's items revered by guitar enthusiasts as models of "getting it right" while aiming at value-conscious players. The Squier Classic Vibe Series reflects that simultaneous commitment to excellence, value and vibe. Mirroring classic Fender designs, the Classic Vibe offering is not intended to be era or vintage correct-but rather imparting the vibe of a classic Fender design. Each with distinctive feature set combinations-all adding up to one classic looking instrument. Great sound, vintage looks, unbeatable value-Classic Vibe!

I've been playing guitar for 23 years, and I've always been a Fender fan. I've tried some Squiers before but never was satisfied. Now, on the other hand, I love the new Squiers, especially this Classic Vibe 60's Strat. I've had MIM and American Strats that required a lot of work to set up, adjust, etc. Not the case with this Strat. The finish is awesome, the tone is deep and throaty, the playability is outstanding. I'm a Blues fanatic, and this Strat handles the sound with aplomb. I never use the tremolo system. When I get Strats, I always have the bridge locked down, so going out of tune is never an issue with me. By the way, all Strats will detune when using the Tremolo. I get perfect Texas Blues tones from it. With tweaking the amp, I can also get very nice Neo-classical tones that sing and scream. I'm tired of other professional guitarists saying that Squiers aren't good. I use the Mustang line of amps, and the pairing of the Classic 60's Squier and the Mustang amp is wonderful. Doesn't being a professional guitarist mean that one can use any guitar and make it sing? Just a thought. Always remember, though: what matters is ones' personal taste.

As with many cheaper guitars, this is a mixed deal.

The good: the appearance is great, sound from of all pickups is excellent, the neck is very comfortable. The action was set up out of the box fairly well. Pretty much, it might be an ideal guitar if it was not for the quality issues below.

The bad: quality control is non-existent. I noticed 3 problems immediately:
- 5-way pickup switch was noisy and made cracking sound when switching and just touching it;
- tuner on the 2nd (B) string was defective - you would make a half turn to no effect and then the tone would jump dramatically. This makes fine tuning very hard;
- the nut had signs of an attempted repair: the slot for high E string was filled with white putty and a new slot was cut next to it. As the result, the spacing between 1st (E) and 2nd (B) string was much wider than for the other strings.

I had to send this guitar back and considering that I had not one random problem, but three, I doubt other guitars will be without a blemish.

Side note. Prior to this guitar I tried Squier Standard Strat and also had quality concerns with it.

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '60s Electric Guitar:

I have been playing since before I started school. I still have my first Strat..1965. I am a rock player and a blues player. Not a shredder. I played the 1965 all the way up into the 90s before I came down with GAS. I have lots of old and new USA guitars but nothing ever played like my old strat and tele. I have retired them. I gig with Squier bullet strats or a Squier surf strats and the CV stuff.

The newer Strats changed and they do not feel like the old ones. They're heavier and bigger. I prefer Squiers. The size and weight is more like my 65. When the frets wear, I dress them or just buy another. I move my good pickguard/pickups to the cheap guitars as needed..until they wear out. The CV strats stay stock.

This CV Strat is a few notches above the bullet. It sounds great. It plays great. If you know how to adjust a standard trem, it will stay in tune. The tuners are great. I play old music. Winter, Trower, Hendrix, Creedence, SRV etc. Not much gain used in that stuff so the guitar character shows when amplified.

I have a 50th Anniversary American Deluxe and some 90s American Standards. I could go on about what I own but the point I am trying to make is that the CV strats are more like the real thing from the past than the real thing of today. I'm not slamming the real Fender's. I have lots of them.

After playing for over 50 years, I have my preferences and the Squier Bullet, Surf Strat and the CV Strat feel more like what my 1965 Strat feels like.

If you're not a brand snob, you'll find this guitar pleasant to play and the sound will nail the artists I mentioned without much effort. Put some good heavier strings on it. Crank up a low power Fender tube amp with decent overdrive pedal......work the volume knob on the guitar and you get pretty much get there without spending a fortune.

This is hands down a great affordable Fender strat alternative. I won't waste $$ on a new Fender or Gibson

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '60s Electric Guitar:

Wow...people weren't kidding. This thing is a beast right out of the box. Fit and finish is what you'd expect on a Mexican Fender. I bought this for my 9 year old daughter....well, that's what I told my wife anyway. After playing it I might keep it for myself. I watched countless YouTube videos where folks go on and on about how great they were. After going on clearance I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a burgundy mist with matching headstock. They're quality guitars much nicer than my Squier II that I started with as a teenager in the mid-nineties.
I will say I'm not crazy about the pickups, they're not terrible by any means but an experienced ear can tell they're lower quality. A set of Texas specials or even Tex-Mex pickups would turn the guitar into a absolute screamer. If I was gonna go that far I'd probably replace the dime sized volume and tone pots for good measure as well. That being said as far as a first guitar goes this is a beautiful place to start. It'd be a guitar that would be a joy to play for any level player. If you're an intermediate to experienced player this is a solid platform to modify and experiment with. They can be bought cheap enough that you can feel comfortable upgrading some of the budget appointments. Vintage frets feel nice, no sharp edges.
They do cut corners here and there. The rosewood fretboard is laughably thin BUT had I not owned Mexican and American strats previously I probably would have never noticed.
It's also pretty light bordering on too light but that can be an advantage for younger/smaller players.
Overall though I'm thrilled with my purchase.

**If you're a parent shopping for a budding guitarist pay the extra money. Nothing discourages a beginner guitarist like a guitar that is poorly set up and uncomfortable to play and I put a lot of the base model squiers into that category. If you're considering a Squier Starcaster with an amp in a box you're practically buying a throw away instrument.**

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '60s Electric Guitar:

Not a Strat guy, but the tone is admittedly useful on occasions, an industry standard. Was pleasantly surprised by the quality of build and the overall aesthetic/vibe. I was expecting to upgrade hardware, but for now will only replace the 5Way switch, which works but doesn't switch as quietly as some. Tweeked the truss rod, but nut was cut properly and saddles set for good action right out of the box - quite impressive. Finish, fit of neckjoint, playability, expected tone, function of vibrato and tuners, etc. are all satisfactory. The Squier Vintage Modified line is a lot of bang for the buck.

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '60s Electric Guitar:

Absolutely beautiful guitar. Matching headstock too. Burgundy mist is one of the coolest colors on most any guitar but the Strat is the prettiest. Very light, weighs in at about 6 pounds. I love that.
A little "static" crackle from the 5 way switch so I'm thinking about an upgrade to USA made pots and switch. Other than that it would easily be 5 stars.
How does it sound ? Sounds like a guitar.
If Slash played it it would sound like Slash, if Van Halen played it it would sound like Eddie. It is fine playing and sounding. Great guitar for the beginner or intermediate player.

Comments about Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '60s Electric Guitar:

I'm 65 years old. I've been around long enough to know guitars, especially my guitars.
I was jamming at night several times a week with Keith Knudsen when I was 16 inside a Cadillac dealership in our hometown or Princeton, IL. I should have gone with the Doobie Brothers like Keith did.

Classic Vibe guitars are, for the most part, Fender guitars with different logos on the headstock.
At one time or another, I've owned many of what Fender USA has.

The Classic Vibe guitars are awesome guitars, whether you are a beginner or play professionally.
A long time ago I grew up and realized there are only a small handful of manufacturers of guitar, regardless of the logo on the headstock.
The single biggest difference is you will save 1K+ when buying a Classic Vibe vs the Fender logos.

Sure, you might want to change the pots or pickups, but I've done that even to USA Fenders, so it's no big difference.

I totally and wholeheartedly recommend the Classic Vibe line of Squier guitars. I own this Strat and I own the CV Tele Thinline and would not part with either. Ever.
