Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Cabronita Telecaster with Bigsby Tremolo:

I bought one of these guitars but was never really happy with the sound. It was always much quieter than my other guitars and really muddy sounding. I had read online about lots of people complaining about the "weak pickups". When I opened up the control cavity I was shocked to find that the volume pot was A25K instead of A250K.
Having such a low value pot can have a devastating effect on volume and tone. I switched it with an A250K pot I had lying around and it is like night and day. twice the volume and much much brighter. Now the bridge actually sounds like a Tele.

Bear in mind that this was a brand new guitar still wrapped in a sealed box with squier tags on.
I can only think that this was a manufacturing error. If you are not happy with the volume or tone of yours I suggest that you open up the cavity and check the value of the pot before replacing pickups.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Cabronita Telecaster with Bigsby Tremolo:

Great build. Great neck. Good paint job. Very nice rounded shoulder on the neck. Doesn't have that ugly Amber tint on neck. Bigsby is nice and expensive. Pickups are weak. Rewind or replace. Clean poly fret overspray with 0000 steel wool in seconds. Frets are absolutely level. Feel free to change nut if OEM cheap one bothers you. Doesn't bother me.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Cabronita Telecaster with Bigsby Tremolo:

I've been a Tele player since 1966 when I bought a junk-bin late fifties and "customized" it with a Gretsch Filtertron PUP. What a wonderful guitar that was!

Fender/Squier outdid me with this Cabronita -- adding a Bigsby.

This is my 3rd "Vintage Modifed" series Squier. It, likew my VM Jazzmaster and VM Jaguar is simply superb, but the Cabronita is even better than the others. Its neck and fretwork are perfection, as is the black finish which more than the others (all look lovely) seems thin and more like classic nitrocellulose.

The Cab has a wonderfully wide range of sounds -- from classic Tele "bite" and twang from the bridge PUP to chimy, ringing, Gretsch-like sounds from the Neck PUP, to something all its own with both going.

The Bigsby is, as always, wonderful.

The bridge is a rocking model as originaly on the Jazzmastewr, but here the Bigsby's 2nd cross bar increases break angle (i.e., increases string tension on the bridge) and thus even works here with light gauge strings. Still I went over to a set of .10s. Pure nickel. Oh, what a sound and feel!

A truly wonderful guitar in every respect.

Comments about Squier Vintage Modified Cabronita Telecaster with Bigsby Tremolo:

First Squire I've ever bought new, and first I've ever bought that wasn't in a pile of guitars, as I'm not really a "Squire guy", and own several Fenders, and have for several decades.

I bought one to use as a hybrid, with a MIM Fender Cabronita neck, Texas Custom Shop bridge pickup. The neck pickup is exactly the same as the MIM Cabs, which means very good, although not the same as a TV Jones. The body is good enough but not great, the Bigsby is a Bigsby, so obviously that is good if that is what you want. Electronics are middle of the road.

As a project guitar for a Tele with Bigsby, you can't really complain about the value. I may route out all through the back cavity and add traditional electronics, and just notch the Cab pick guard. You could throw an old school pick guard and use a single coil at the neck but it will leave a hole or two. No reason, as the Cab pickup is very tasty (although not split-able). There is a lot you can do with the guitar if you want to tweak it a little, or carve it a lot.

If you aren't interested in a project, but want a good enough Bigsby guitar for jamming, this would be fine. Add a better bridge pickup, and the tone is good enough for bar gigs and home recording, although I would look at replacing the pot and switch for any regular gigging use.

Overall, insanely good value, as the Bigsby and neck pickup are worth most of the asking price, and the neck is surprisingly good as well (MIM or better kind of good), with the only flaw being the logo ;)
