Three pickups, a long list of features and one amazing price.

The Silo3, a versatile workhorse, that’s easy to play, comfortable and sounds like a higher end guitar. The solid hardwood body is attached to the solid maple neck via a Music Man designed 5 bolt neck joint. The neck heel is contoured and rounded over for easy & comfortable access to the higher frets.

The double cutaway, contoured, hardwood body is fully sculpted and shaped for comfort. All sharp edges have been eliminated and you have just the bare essentials you need for a comfortable, solid body shape that never feels awkward.

The asymmetrical cut maple neck is slimmer on the treble side and thicker on the bass side, for effortless movement as you move around the neck. Thick enough for great tone, thin enough for easy playability. The medium sized fret wire is easy to fret and offers great intonation up & down the neck.

The pickguard is loaded with 2 high output single coils and 1 overwound humbucker which have clear bell like tone, but can also shred and emote all the nuances of your playing. A 5 way selector switch is wired to a single volume & tone control.

I cannot speak highly enough about the Silo3 as an affordable option for new players, or experienced ones that want a versatile guitar and a great starting point for future upgrades. Sterling by Music Man is like the Squier line of Fender guitars, except the build quality is far superior to (many) Squiers. Sound-wise, you get the sparkle and twang of a Fender, with a bridge humbucker that can cop even some Led Zeppelin riffs. But the real star is the playable neck and the guitar's ability to stay in tune. That's not something you could say about many guitars in this price range. The guitar plays great "out of the box", with perhaps a minor bridge adjustment to free up a string or two. But since the "bones" of the guitar are so nice, it's exciting to think of what it could sound like if you spent a hundred dollars or so upgrading with the pickups of your choice. I own better and more expensive guitars, but the SSH pickup configuration might just make this one the most versatile. Great new offering from Sterling!

Built well and plays well. The pickups are okay. The single coils sound flat and more like humbuckers. They lack the chime that good single coil pickup should have. Other reviewers liked the single coils and I feel they are poor at best(but hey it's a low cost guitar!). The humbucker is interesting though, it has a bright open sound but never tinny or piercing. It may sound close to the new Seymour Duncan 59 hybrid pickup. It lacks mussle though and may not work for people who need a high gain pickup. It does complement the single coils during switching and this is a plus. Add some low cost Tonerider single coils pickups and if still dont like the humbucker, swap that out too and you will have a nice guitar at a fair price.

Comments about Sterling by Music Man SUB Silo3 Electric Guitar:

I am the lead singer in a Rush tribute band, and recently we've wanted to add a second guitar to some older material. I did some research and, within my price range, this looked like my best choice. I am SO glad I took the chance on this guitar! I'll be honest, I'm not a full-time lead guitarist and I'm also not an equipment prude. If you are, I'm sure you could find some fault with this axe. I, however, have not. I have played a lot of guitars in my time, saving money and settling for Squires, Epiphones and pawn-shop second-handers. This time, I wanted something new. Even though Sterling is MM's "Squire" series, it is WORLDS above any other guitar maker's lower-end line and is even comparable to a few higher-end guitars I've played. The tuners are top-notch, the neck is a dream, the pickups are awesome, at least for what I need. Maybe you wanna change them...change them. I don't see a need. I went to set up the bridge when I got it, and found through my digital tuner that it was already dead-on for intonation. The looks are astounding, far more attention to detail than any other lower-end guitar I've seen. I'm not really sure where Music Man cut corners on this series, because other than not having a locking-nut tremelo, I can't see any. I would reccomend this to ANYONE looking for a guitar...especially if you're buying a gift for a new player. It's affordable for a newbie...but one they'll keep for a very long time. Well played, Ernie Ball...well played!

Comments about Sterling by Music Man SUB Silo3 Electric Guitar:

After initial setup and some eq tweaking on my pedalboard to adapt to the new output/sound of my new guitar (I previously used another strat style guitar), I was actually able to admire this guitar so much!!

The neck, although a Little beefy, after a while it became so comfortable to play, so smooth, the right spacing, the right action...wow...that's by far the best part of the guitar.

Regarding pickups, they actually sound pretty nice, no mudiness at all. My only complain is that I feel the humbucker a Little weak in comparison to the single coils, but of course that can be easily fixed, but for now, it totally Works for me. I had always dreamt of having a Musicman guitar and now I finally can get a Little flavor of it!! marvelous guitar!! Totally recommended!!

Comments about Sterling by Music Man SUB Silo3 Electric Guitar:

As the title states nice for the price. The sterling sub is to music man as the squire is to fender only better.
This review is based on my experience of 30 years of playing and a serious case of guitar aquisition syndrome which has resulted in the purchase of too many instruments over the years.
build quality, playability and sound on this guitar is quite good. tuners are basic squire quality and quite usable. the nut is plastic but cut nicely. the neck is remarkably comfortable to play. the fretwork is much better than most squires I have played although the fret ends were noted to be sharp. electronics are solid enough. pickups are actually quite musical. I probably will not swap them out at least not initially. finish is quite nice with no flaws noted.
set up was absolutely nonexistant. unfortunately the guitar ships with 9's which appear quite cheap. the high e broke after all of 1 minute use. I set up with 10's but found the 2 springs in the trem inadequate. i added a third spring but wish the guitar had come with one. trem does function well and is certainly adequate. I give this a four star due to the issues noted. That being said this is a nice usable guitar which really does not need anything but a set up. I would recommend this guitar over a squire or product of similar quality

Comments about Sterling by Music Man SUB Silo3 Electric Guitar:

BRIDGE PICKUP IS ANEMIC WHEN COMPARED TOO THE SINGLE COILS. FRET ENDS WERE A LITTLE SHARP. TRUSS ROD NEEDED ADJUSTING.
NOW FOR THE GOOD PART.... PAY SOMEONE TOO SET IT UP, OR IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING, DO A PROPER SETUP YOURSELF. TUNE IT, SET IT FOR A DAY, COME BACK TOO IT. IT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND!
I HAVE PLAYED FOR OVER 25 YEARS, NEVER FOUND ANY GUITAR AT THIS PRICE, THIS GOOD. STERLING IS DOING THINGS RIGHT, AND OTHER BRANDS SHOULD TAKE NOTE, THIS GUITARS ARE LOOKED DOWN UPON BECAUSE OF NAME BRANDING, BUT PLAY BETTER THAN MOST COSTING TRIPLE THE PRICE.
HANDS DOWN, ONE OF THE BEST KEPT SECRETS IN THE "BUDGET" GUITAR WORLD. I AM NOT CHANGING ANYTHING AT THE MOMENT, IN THE FUTURE, MAY SWAP OUT THE PICKUPS AND WIRING, BUT ITS NOT A NECESSITY FOR USING, MORE OF A PREFERENCE.
PARENTS SHOULD TAKE NOTE, THESE THINGS ARE JUST AS GOOD AS THE BIG NAME MEXICAN MADE GUITARS OUT THERE, AND CONSIDERING THE PRICE, ARE BETTER.

Comments about Sterling by Music Man SUB Silo3 Electric Guitar:

I ordered this guitar to levae at our practice area,,didn't want to leave a Strat or a Les Paul because of the cost if stolen or damaged. Well let me tell you, when I got this guitar I did a quick set up on it (the guitar needed less attention than any Fender or Gibson I have ever bought) plugged it in and was blown away by the comfort and playability. The neck alone is worth the price of the guitar. Don't be afraid to buy this,,,you will NOT be disappointed. In my 40+ years of playing I have never been more impressed by what a guitar had to offer for this price. I am going to replace the neck pick up with a Humbucker though,,,,,just my preference. The single coils are hotter than most Strats, but the humbucker in the bridge I feel is a little weak,,,,just my opinion though,,,everyone has a different preferance. Again, this is one of the most comfortable guitars you will ever pick up,,,the asymetrical neck is ergonomically perfect. Even my friends were amazed at how comfortable and how easily the guitar played. Grab one of these and you'll see for yourself.

Comments about Sterling by Music Man SUB Silo3 Electric Guitar:

I purchased this guitar as a cheap alternative to a Music Man Silo Special. Boy was I surprised! I have a couple Music Man John Petrucci guitars and previously owned a Music Man Silo Special. This guitar simply blew my mind on how closely it resembled the Silo Special that I used to have! The thing that really stands out on this guitar is the neck. It feels really comfortable and the frets are nice and smooth. There were no sharp edges on the fret ends and no rough feeling spots on the neck. The nut was cut perfect and there's no catching of the strings when tuning. This guitar screams quality and I can't believe how much these are selling for. My only grip is the pickups. I plan on upgrading them in the near future but even adding that into the price it's still a steal of a deal.

Bought this guitar for my 9 year old son because he wants to take after Dad. I have been playing for 25 years and this guitar is amazing. I still can't believe the price it is selling for. I have played several mid range guitars that were not crafted or sounded as well as this guitar Rest assured, anything with the Music Man name on it will be quality! Even the Sterling by Music Man line and the entry level SUB line! Best guitar ever made for the money. Plays great, sounds great and even carries many features of it's cousin, the USA made Music Man brand like the easy to adjust truss wheel for the neck. The set up from the factory is also fantastic and out of the box ready to go fo anyone. I actually can't wait to get this guitar in the studio to see how it sounds compared to other higher end guitars.
