    Mine's Got A Spruce Top

    By Frank

    from Connecticut

Comments about Takamine Concert Classic 132S Acoustic Guitar:

Some confusion in the listing as well as Takamine's online catalog. I got my C132-S new in the mid-late 80's and the top is spruce with an amber tint - definitely not cedar (I don't recall seeing cedar-topped classical guitars at that time - they may have existed commercially but they weren't yet popular).

Mine also doesn't have the 'T' on the headstock - no idea when they began that. Takamine says today that their Classical series ('C') comes in both cedar and spruce-tops - clearly they've evolved the model.

All that said, let me just concur on the workmanship and sound quality - both excellent. I've experimented with both bone and micarta nuts and saddles and currently have bone - which adds a touch of brightness to the wonderfully rich, dark color.

I've played mine for almost 30 years now in solo, chamber and accompaniment settings and it's never let me down.

Comments about Takamine Concert Classic 132S Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this guitar in 1986 for college classical guitar study. It was recommended by a great guitarist that worked at my favorite shop, and the price was right. This instrument is simple, inexpensive, and well made. I added a Shadow pickup almost immediately, and upgraded the tuning machines, also. Although I did not continue with classical guitar study for long, I've played the Takamine daily for years. I've used it on hundreds of gigs and several recordings. Most of my playing uses electric guitar or steel string acoustic. I have many electrics, a few steel string acoustics, but this is still my only classical guitar. The design is truly classic. As for scale length and neck width, just about identical specs to Segovia's. The tone is very warm and improves as time goes by. Some professional classical player friends have commented on what a great, responsive instrument it is. I would not recommend the 132 for flamenco as the tone is not nearly bright enough. I have tried every king of string in an attempt to make it more flamenco, but this is a classical only guitar.

    Takamine C132-S

    By Steven-yBF52

    from Orange, CA

Comments about Takamine Concert Classic 132S Acoustic Guitar:

What a find! I just wish it had a pickup system. I love this guitar.
I bought this guitar new in 1995. Love it! The only reason I give this guitar an 8 is the lack of a pickup system. My apologies to the purists, but a good pickup system is just easier than a mic.
Top notch. My favorite classical guitar of any I've played in 38 years of experience. Neck plays great. Fingerboard is great. The guitar itself makes me play more accurately. Sounds beautiful. I record with this guitar with great results (use new strings). I love playing this guitar.
I couldn't say, but I know that the value of my C132-S is in the great sound and playability. It always stands apart from other classical guitar I play. These are the things that make a guitar valuable to YOU!

One of the Best of All Time

Comments about Takamine Concert Classic 132S Acoustic Guitar:

In 1977 I bought a C-132S for $250 including the hard case. I only knew a couple of chords but the guy at the music store said this was a very good guitar. I eventually chose classical music as my preferred venue. Over the years the sound board has changed to a dark honey color. The tone is as wonderful now as when it was new. Maybe even better. Recently, it developed a crack by the sound hole but I stuck a cleat on the crack and it's OK. I have played many classical guitars from the cheapest to some of the most expensive and in my opinion this is one of the best ever made. Takamine makes an excellent guitar. I've played several of their steel string acoustics and they are fantastic also. If you are looking for an excellent classical guitar for a reasonable price, I highly recommend the C-132S.

    A Classic Classical Guitar

    By Chris-uL5Ze

    from Metro Atlanta

Comments about Takamine Concert Classic 132S Acoustic Guitar:

Some time in the early 1990s, the secretary at work brought in her guitar, which she was selling. I didn't know much about guitars at the time but wanted to learn an instrument, so I made her an offer for what turned out to be a 1981 Takamine C-132S, made in Japan, with a hard-shell case. She sold it for an ultra-reasonable price, and it became the first of several guitars I now own. The playability and tone are excellent, and I was surprised at how much volume it had--considering how light in weight it was. It is a beautiful guitar, especially the cedar top, with a fine grain and smooth gloss finish. The action is a bit higher than I like, but that is usual for a nylon-string classical. BTW, it has also kept its value quite well over the years, and the tone has really mellowed and improved. I would sell this guitar only if destitute with nothing to eat! I highly recommend it.

    Great Value Classical Guitar

    By MusicLover676

Comments about Takamine Concert Classic 132S Acoustic Guitar:

I have one of the original 1980's models and it has held up well over the years. The sound now that it is well aged rivals much more expensive guitars. I have been very happy with the playability and sound.

    Very Nice Guitar

    By Moab

Comments about Takamine Concert Classic 132S Acoustic Guitar:

I just received the Takamine Concert Classic 132S Acoustic Guitar as a gift and as a hobbyist guitarist I have to say this instrument is great if a little expensive.Out of the box it tuned up nicely with great action, tone and volume. The bodywork is flawless and the case is great. The tuners are moderate, but as a hobbyist they'll do the job for me.It's likely that I'll never need another guitar. Very nice.

My Keeper over all the rest

    By tchall

    from Florence, MT

Comments about Takamine Concert Classic 132S Acoustic Guitar:

I got my 132S second hand... I'd have a jam session at work over lunch... a gal (co-worker) that had studied guitar as a kid brought the Tak in, asked me to tune it, then came back later and had me change the strings and play it some more... After a couple of weeks of bringing it by she told me to make her an offer... I could only offer her a pittance and told her it would be in my collection till I died... apparently that was good enough, since I've had it now for almost 20 years... It's a dream to play... and the Rosewood/Ceder tone has to be heard to be believed...I'm usually a tech/sound guy even though I've been strumming guitars for the last 40 years... but one of my performing friends has reserved time on my Takamine 132 for a studio recording of a song he thinks will go great with it's sound.Unfortunately, my wife and kids grab for it first... even though I got a Baby Taylor to distract them... it's SOOO easy to play...It's the one guitar in the collection that will never be sold...

Comments about Takamine Concert Classic 132S Acoustic Guitar:

After 30 years away from music I decided to recover my lost skills, and this guitar has inspired me to do so. I tried over 30 different models and picked this Takamine for its easy action and gorgeous sound. I have no idea whether this is best in class, but I have found it to be easy to play, very well made, great sounding with quite a rich tone, as well as a great value for the money. I would recommend it highly.

The best store-bought guitar I've ever played!

    By Jeremy-3_gpj

    from Jefferson City, TN

Comments about Takamine Concert Classic 132S Acoustic Guitar:

This truly is the best-sounding guitar I've played that has not come from a private luthier. It is by far the best buy in the low-end classical line.
