This is my second one. The first one went down on Lake Mead during a houseboat accident. Great action, plays like a dream. Plugged in is the best sound for this Takamine. Drop the mids a little and leave the rest neutral. Love the exciter maybe a little to much. Wish the pick guard was a little bigger as I've been rubbing the finish off, just my playing style however.Ready for another one of these soon.

Easy play 12 string

By Azzy

from Phoenix, Arizona

Comments about Takamine EF-381C 12-String Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Guitar:

Striking appearance will catch you. The ease of play, for a 12 string will amaze you. Great features and plugged sound are way above acceptable levels. This Tak is a very comfortable instrument to play and pickup controls are easy to use. My only disappointments are its lack of bottom end and no notch filter. Great guitar other than my own expectations and desires. It still serves well.

Plugged or unplugged - the Best

By Messenger

Comments about Takamine EF-381C 12-String Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Guitar:

I shopped for 2 months for a 12-string. I played then all. Owning 2 Martin 6-strings, I REALLY wanted the Martin 12. I passed on it for this perfect Takamine. Didn't want a black guitar but, this beauty has such a sweet, beautiful sound. Plugged or unplugged, it is the best.

Incredible

By fenderplayer54

Comments about Takamine EF-381C 12-String Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Guitar:

I am in the process of purchasing this from a friend (actually for a lot less, cuz its not brand new.) the intonation of this guitar is great. every chord you play is in perfect tune...that is a tough find with middle-line guitars. Feels nice, looks great. Very fun to play. the only thing, as previously mentioned, is you are not going to get the brightest 12-string sound unplugged. However, this guitar really stands out plugged in. Don't hesitate if this is in your price range. great 12-string!

At Long Last!

By Coach Peter

from Santa Barbara, Ca

Comments about Takamine EF-381C 12-String Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Guitar:

I've been playing 12 string since Mr. Tambourine Man came out in 1965. I have struggled with guitars that didn't stay in tune or were impossible to ever get in tune to begin with. I got this truly special 12 string about 6 years ago and At Long Last! A guitar that is easy to get in tune and stays in tune even if you are hard on a guitar like I am. I can honestly play anything on this guitar that I can play on a six string and that's never been true before. I love gibson and guild and their 12 strings are very good but this one is special.

This Is it !!!

By sms8668

Comments about Takamine EF-381C 12-String Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Guitar:

This guitar is absolutely the best 12 string you will ever hear or play unless you want to spend $3000.00 for a Taylor or Martin. You don't even have to know how to play and it sounds good. I have al ot of friends who play in bands and they go crazy over this guitar. If I was rich, I would buy a few of them. This is the best investment you will ever make !

Beautiful Guitar

By David-Q4hRU

from Lexington, IL

Comments about Takamine EF-381C 12-String Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Guitar:

This is a beautiful guitar that just happened to catch my eye at a local music store. I had never played a twelve string before so I tried it out. It sounds as good as it looks, which is saying something. Also looking at some other guitars on this website, this guitar is much less expensive than others. Unfortunately, I don't have the money to get this guitar. If anyone is looking for a twelve string with good sound, don't overlook this amazing guitar, It is great.

Takemine EF-381SC

Comments about Takamine EF-381C 12-String Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Guitar:

great guitar for the money. string action great. I own a martin HD28 and when I looked at what the taylors cost and the sound. the takemine won out. The talyor did sound a little better but being out playing jobs if the takemine gets knocked around on the road I will not worry out it as much...great guitar for a working musician!

Review

By djglowell

from Lowell, MA

Comments about Takamine EF-381C 12-String Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Guitar:

I have owned this since last April. After trying Taylors and Martins (already own a 6 string) and Guild 12 strings I found this instrument to give me the best sound for my buck. The onboard tuner and great action makes playing this guitar a joy! Have played and recorded with it and have found that, with a few tweaks, I can get very good sound reproduction. Played acoustically this guitar has a good sound but, as someone said earlier, it does lacks some of the bass punch of a Martin. And, with the glossy black finish with the white binding, you can't beat the appearance of this instrument.
