Solid electronics and sapele tonewood helps separate this hybrid from the rest of the pack.
The 300 Series 314ce Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar with a Venetian cutaway and gloss-finish Sitka spruce top with sapele back and sides. Sapele shares mahogany's lively tonal response, and with the spruce top, rings out with a brightness and clarity that gives this guitar a definitive Taylor voice. Black binding flanks sapele's ribbon-like grain, with large pearl fretboard dots adding a traditional touch. Expression System electronics help you get accurate tone when you're plugged in.
Taylor's most popular and versatile body shape, the mid-size Grand Auditorium arrived in 1994 bearing refined proportions that fell between a Dreadnought and Grand Concert. While the bigger Dreadnought was traditionally considered a flatpicker's guitar and the smaller Grand Concert catered to fingerstylists, the GA was designed to deliver on both fronts. The shape produced an original acoustic voice that was big enough to handle medium-strength picking and strumming, yet with impressive balance across the tonal spectrum, especially in the midrange, producing clear, well-defined notes that suited both strumming and fingerstyle playing.
The GA's overall presence tracks well with other instruments both in a studio mix and on stage, and singer-songwriters have embraced its utility both for composing and traveling with one guitar. Many people want a single guitar that can cover a variety of styles, which is why the GA continues to be one of Taylor's bestselling shape. If you want a great all-purpose guitar, the multi-dimensional GA won't let you down.
An alternative tonewood that joined the Taylor fold over a decade ago. It's sometimes mistakenly referred to as African mahogany because it closely resembles the West African wood khaya, which is commercially known as African mahogany. Sapele is a highly sustainable, relatively fast-growing wood. Tonally, it does everything that mahogany does, with a little extra treble zing.
Expression System 2
The Taylor Expression System 2 (ES2) is a revolutionary pickup design that delivers the latest in Taylor's ongoing innovation in acoustic guitar amplification. The heart of the Expression System 2 is Taylor's proprietary behind-the-saddle pickup (patent pending), which features three uniquely positioned and individually calibrated pickup sensors. The location of the sensors enables a more dynamic range of acoustic sound to be captured than ever before. Together with Taylor's custom-designed "professional audio"-grade preamp, this system produces exceptional amplified tone and responsiveness. On stage through a PA, plugged into your favorite acoustic amplifier, or direct into recording software, the Expression System 2 faithfully conveys the voice of your Taylor guitar.

Comments about Taylor 314ce Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
This is a good guitar (I have a couple variations of the 314). Fretboard is wide. Still fairly playable but not a beginners guitar. It stands out when playing with other instruments or singing. It's a professional version of a Yamaha 700 series. Different shapes but pronounced sound. This guitar passes some critical tests. Plays well up the neck. Strings 5 and 6 sound good when plucked alone. Decent sustain. It does ok in the studio but best live. It's a strong guitar and stands up to abuse. I'm not a good judge for the electronics so I'll abstain on that. Tuners are very nice. Not a glitsy guitar but the finish is consistent and I like it. Action comes a hair higher than I like but I don't mind it. My experience with this and other Taylors is that it consistently sounds good. With Martins you can have a good or bad one. But good Martins are nice. If you're a guitarist this should be in your collection as a work horse. I was 12 when I heard this guitar for the 1st time. I had the opportunity to get this and jumped on it. If you like to play songs in a social setting this is perfect. Take it along and it will hold up for the task. Taylors stand out when tried side by side with any guitar maker. Good guitar and good sound. Nothing more nothing less. It won't let you down.
