A quintessential strummer with a big sound!
With a cutaway and the Expression System, the Taylor 855ce 12-string Jumbo Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar ” already a monster among brawny 12-strings ” shifts into overdrive. The Indian rosewood used on this instrument seems like it was created to be on a guitar with its clarity, balance, sustain, and excellent bass response. When paired with Sitka spruce, it is an unstoppable combination. Other features of this gorgeous acoustic include a bound neck and body, an Indian rosewood headstock overlay, pearl 800 series fingerboard inlays, gold-plated Taylor tuners with Ebonoid Buttons, and an abalone rosette.
The Jumbo's size suits it perfectly for aggressive strumming, but it's capable of sublime subtleties as well. While the shape gives you the greatest top surface, it's quelled by the waist's curvature and position. Taylor 12-strings deliver the same easy-to-hold, stay-in-tune playability as their six-string siblings. With their comfortable necks, Taylor 12-string guitars are ideal for the mainly six-string guitarist as well as the true 12-string enthusiast.

The Taylor Jumbo 855ce guitar falls perfectly into my stature, and probably plays the easiest of all the guitars in My possession. I was fortunate to find a "tobacco burst" finish, and together with the neck inlays, the beautiful soundhole rosette, and gold tuners, the 855ce's looks are absolutely stunning! The action is set low, yet no buzzing, the acoustics are decent, and the quality is evident, throughout! The Venetian Cutaway allows playing beyond the 12th fret a reality. When this guitar is plugged into an amplifier, is where the Taylor 855ce really shines! As an owner of a Guild 12 string, and a Washburn 12 string, (and two Guild 6 string acoustic guitars) the sounds from the Taylor are completely different. Amplifiing My other two 12 string guitars with a Duncan soundhole pick up, tends to create a Harpsichordal sound effect. The Taylor 855ce sounds full, and true to life when amplified. I like describe the Taylor's musical sound, as a 'Manly' sound! Of course, My other two 12's are mahogany, and the Taylor 855ce has a solid Rosewood back and sides, and may I add, superlatively grained! Two very minor areas of discontent, (merely My opinion) are the fact that with the Sunburst Finish, the 855ce does NOT come supplied with a pickguard. Also, You'll need to either modify a guitar strap to fit, or buy a Taylor specific strap. Actually, insignificant issues with a guitar of this magnitude. Taylor factory pickguards ARE available from Taylor Guitars directly for very minimal cost, and Musician's Friend carries the Taylor specific straps, as does Taylor Guitars. On the plus side, Taylor DOES equip their Acoustic guitars with a front strap button, the electronics are superb and not cumbersome, and the materials used to build this guitar are second to none! A beautiful Hardcase comes with this guitar from the factory, as does Elixir Strings, and an "Expressions System" instructional video DVD. For the advanced guitarist, professional player, and serious enthusiast, the Taylor 855ce Acoustic/Electric Cutaway Guitar is an outstanding choice of instrument to own and play.
Really nice guitar. Plays well, excellent action and the electronics are outstanding. However, I was expecting something a bit different. I own and play both the Martin D-35 and D-45. I mic both guitars when the situation requires. The (unplugged) Taylor doesn't have the bass response nor the volume and projection of the Martin's and I guess that is what I was expecting. This guitar tends toward being an electric guitar that one can play a acoustically, rather than the other way around. If this set up is what you are looking for, you can't buy a better guitar.
