OVERVIEW

The beauty of koa in a more portable body design.

There's something undeniably inviting about the Taylor GS Mini's scaled-down size, yet a single strum reveals the impressive voice of a full-size guitar. That mix of portability and musicality has proven to be a winning combination that fits into so many scenarios in life, from the couch to the campfire to the concert hall. It's not too big, it's not too precious, and it's not too expensive.

That broad-based accessibility has given it a resounding universal appeal, not to mention a built-in fun factor. The shorter 23-1/2-inch scale length makes forming chords a breeze yet gives the instrument plenty of snap and tuning stability for a rewarding playing experience. The acoustic-electric versions enjoy a sweet upgrade to ES2 electronics. All GS-Mini models include a durable hard bag built by Taylor for the optimal fit.

Tone Woods
A guitar's top is the primary filter and distributor of vibrating string energy through the guitar, which means it has a huge impact on its sound. Sitka Spruce is the most prevalent guitar top wood of the modern era. It blends stiffness and elasticity in just the right proportions which translates into broad dynamic range with crisp articulation. Layered back and sides create a sturdy yet receptive platform for the vibrating string energy sent by the guitar's top. Layered wood is less susceptible to changes in temperature and humidity, making it an excellent choice for players who travel with their instruments or simply require more durability.

What sets Taylor Guitars apart? Unmatched build quality, the most stable and playable necks, a vast array of tonal options, eco-conscious and ethically-sourced raw materials, and a lifetime of service and support.

Comments about Taylor GS Mini Koa Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I am a small statured person (ok, I'm kinda short) and feel overwhelmed by full sized guitars. I set out to find a perfect fit and this is it for me. I wanted the Koa because I like the sound and look of the wood. I ordered an open box and must admit that my guitar does not have the depth and "holographic" look that I've read about in other reviews, but it is quite unique looking and I like it very much.

Comments about Taylor GS Mini Koa Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The Koa sounds as good as it looks - not quite as much bottom end as a full-size guitar, but perfectly adequate. It's light and responsive with good volume and articulation for finger-style playing. Sounds great in DADGAD and open G. It took a day or two for me to get used to the shorter scale and narrower neck, but I really like it after becoming acclimated - much easier for my 60+ year-old hands. It has 13's but they feel more like 11's due to the short scale. And it's the perfect size for easychair or couch playing - very comfortable. My other guitars have been gathering dust since this one came into the house! The onboard electronics sound good and the gig-bag seems indestructible. Get one - you won't regret it. Ed Sheeran has given us permission to like travel guitars!

Comments about Taylor GS Mini Koa Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is my first Taylor, a reasonably priced KOA instrument. I have a number of Koa ukuleles and I have always loved the warm sound of Koa on the ukulele. As a guitarist, I had a need for a smaller guitar and this one fit my needs perfectly. I am an average sized guy and large bodied dreadnoughts have always been a bit cumbersome to play. This Taylor is perfect. The action is low for an acoustic, and it is a delight to play with its shorter scale length you can get that pinky to easily fret notes that are much harder on a full sized Gibson or Martin acoustic. The sound is LOUD especially considering its smaller body size. I bought this guitar as a limited fall release. Musicians Friend was sold out so I had to look elsewhere, but I was happy to hear that Taylor decided to continue making this guitar this year. I would recommend it to all levels of guitarists. A great first guitar for anyone and seasoned players will enjoy its rich tone and dynamic range. The on board electronics work well, not the best I have used but sufficient. I love the Taylor's controls - three unobtrusive knobs for treble bass and volume which, due to the three small holes drilled through the body have practically no effect on the acoustic tone of the body.
Although the gig bag is a very well padded one in a tan color with shoulder straps, I am a believer in a hard shell case and SKB makes an excellent case for the GS mini. I am seriously considering buying another GS mini e perhaps the spruce topped rosewood model.
