OVERVIEW

Bold workhorse guitar for singer-songwriters or anyone wanting to be heard clearly in a band setting.

The magnificent Limited Edition 516e Grand Symphony with Arm Rest Acoustic-Electric Guitar custom guitar was designed by the luthiers at Taylor Guitars in consort with Musician's Friend Private Reserve to celebrate Taylor's 40th anniversary. It features a striking "bearclaw" Sitka spruce top and Tasmanian blackwood back and sides. The combination of the blackwood with Taylor's Grand Symphony body size creates a very dynamic, articulate, and loud guitar.

This guitar also features many appointments of fine African ebony. The fingerboard and bridge are ebony, as well as the headstock overlay and unique headstock "backstrap." The whole body is also bound in ebony, flowing into an ebony armrest on the guitar's lower bout. This feature adds comfort while playing the guitar, while also positioning your forearm off the top of the guitar top--allowing it to ring out more freely.

The fingerboard has a delicate custom inlay pattern crafted of boxwood and koa. Koa also makes its way around the fingerboard and top of the guitar in the form of subtle purfling, and then again in the instrument's simple and elegant rosette.

The guitar takes to the stage with ease, thanks to Taylor's innovative ES2 electronics. This pickup delivers a very accurate, balanced amplification of the guitar's unique sound.

Comments about Taylor Limited Edition 516e Grand Symphony with Arm Rest Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I can't add anything to what has already been said except that this guitar calls my ear to play it above several Taylor's & Martin's in my collection that were considerably more expensive. A rare treasure at its price point in build, appearance and certainly sound.

Comments about Taylor Limited Edition 516e Grand Symphony with Arm Rest Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

For someone who has paid substantially more for boutique, custom made guitars, I can tell you this guitar should run 6-7K minimum. I have a couple fine instrument that I paid several times more for, and this Taylor has a place in the lineup, and actually is almost preferable amplified, and certainly less brain damage. I play finger style exclusively, and I get enough sound out of 1 note to honestly say that it is "Taylor" made for finger style, and has enough headroom to be hit hard. Buy one! Plus Derek is awesome and is very accommodating. A++++++ for Customer service and satisfaction

Comments about Taylor Limited Edition 516e Grand Symphony with Arm Rest Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar is a very beautiful example of Taylor's custom craftsmanship. You can feel the difference just in your chest alone while playing at the reverberation, tone and overall sound this guitar creates. The ES2 system works amazingly at standing out while plugged in with a full band. Unplugged, this thing SINGS! Love it!!

Comments about Taylor Limited Edition 516e Grand Symphony with Arm Rest Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I won't add anything to the previous reviews concerning the fit, finish, overall beauty, play-ability, and sound. I agree with all of what has been said.

I did want to add that I've used the Custom 516e in a live setting 3 times now (medium sized hall with high ceilings, so lots of natural reverberation). The ES2 system recreated the natural sound of the guitar flawlessly. There was no piezo "quacking" or "barking." There was so much headroom from the output of the ES2 that our sound engineer had to back the gain off considerably compared to the setting for a guitar that I had used previously. When strumming the sound was full and crisp and finger picking was articulate and clear.

If this was the only guitar I could own (and I own way too many), it would be the One.

Comments about Taylor Limited Edition 516e Grand Symphony with Arm Rest Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is the finest Taylor production guitar I've ever played or owned to date. These would include about 150 acoustic ,top of the line production, boutique, custom ,vintage & modern instruments since 1960 when I started to play professionally. Virtually the finest guitars ,players lust for today.I still own about 30-40 acoustics today. At my age & with my physical disabilaties I shouldn't even be looking at the Taylor 516e BUT after about an hour playing one I bought it without hesitation.I,ve owned it about a month and a half &it's become my go to guitar for recording, teaching & just for fun.The ergonomic slant on the bottom bout of this guitar enables me to play a larger "D" size guitar very comfortably.I've been limited to "000's","00's" and smaller orchestra models for 15 years (some very fine models with great sound and ease of playability) due to degenerate back & joint problems. The 516e,enables me to get a fuller, rounded sound without difficulty.Play one & you'll buy it.

Comments about Taylor Limited Edition 516e Grand Symphony with Arm Rest Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Just received this guitar yesterday and I'm really, really impressed! I own several high-end guitars and this one definitely measures up.

The materials and construction are beautiful, I especially like the variation in the ebony they used on the headstock and back-strap. It plays as easy as any guitar that I've ever played...it doesn't feel like you're playing medium gauge strings.

As far as the sound, this guitar absolutely sings! It's very resonant but still has good clarity. I'm a very rhymthmic/percussive strummer, and I can really lay into this guitar without it distorting or the tone breaking down.

All in all...a beautiful guitar that really sings!

Comments about Taylor Limited Edition 516e Grand Symphony with Arm Rest Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've been playing guitar for 35 years and been a serious collector for 15. This guitar is just stunning looking. The pictures don't do it justice. The wood is amazing. The top is spectacular. The detail is perfect. But let's not lose track of the fact that it also sounds amazing. Crisp, resonnant, loud. And it's easy to play. I'm only an intermediate player and I find many acoustic guitars to be too tight for my taste. This one isn't. It has the easy feel of a high quality electric but with a magnificent acoustic sound. I love it.
