OVERVIEW

Taylor's proprietary electronics capture every shade of the sparkling nylon-string sound.

The Taylor NS34ce Grand Auditorium Nylon-String Guitar boasts increased volume, sustain, and bass frequencies while maintaining tonal subtlety and pristine treble response. The Taylor NS43ce has a Sitka spruce top and sapele back and sides in a grand auditorium body style.

The NS34ce is an example of the Taylor take on classical guitar design with a bit of twist. Think of it as classical tone meets Taylor playability, beginning with a slim and fast 1 7/8" neck, and a cutaway body.

Taylor's ES-N piezo system offers high-fidelity amplified tone, unprecedented dynamic range, and extraordinary resistance to feedback and distortion. It enables all of the expressive subtleties of your playing to come through, just the way you intended.

If you are ready to explore a new guitar tone from Taylor, the nylon-string NS34 is a great place to play.

Not Really For Classical Style

By G.A.A.

from Undisclosed

Comments about Taylor NS34ce Cutaway Nylon-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar (2010 Model):

Let me start out by saying that I've been playing guitar for over 35 years, seven of which included studying classical guitar. If you are strictly a classical player, this guitar is not for you. However, if you're like me, primarily a steel-string player, this guitar will definitely open up new tonal possibilities that your steel-string guitar can not meet. It's weird, but I now seem to gravitate to different styles of music when I pick up this nylon-string guitar that I never found satisfying on my steel strings. For instance, Acoustic Jazz just sounds better to me on this Taylor than my other guitars. Same goes for Celtic and Contemporary-New/Agey stuff. I don't own an amp, so I can not speak to the guitar's electronics. As far as playability, I play strictly fingerstyle, and all of my steel strings have always had 1 3/4" nut widths. The 1 7/8" on this Taylor was surprisingly easy to get used to, thanks to Taylor's traditionally low neck profiles. I find I have no problems switching between my guitars in a single sitting. Finally, I have always hated Taylor steel-string guitars. Never liked the way they sound (too bright) or how they played (neck profiles are too low). But, I did not hesitate to pick up this nylon-string guitar from Taylor. It is a well built, high quality instrument, even though it is one of their lower end nylon models. It is a great solution for steel-players looking for a mellow, nylon vibe.

Comments about Taylor NS34ce Cutaway Nylon-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar (2010 Model):

This is my 3rd. attempt to get a funtioning Taylor NS34. The 1st. one had a cracked tuning peg, the 2cnd one had a short in the bass potentiometer which when turned all the way to the right would cut the guitar pre-amp off and make noise when making adjustment with the knob. The guitar sounds fantastic and will re-order another shortly. Hopefully this time no problems. Customer sdervice is great at Musician's Friend. Get the Gold coverage -- well worth it.

Phenominal quality

By Camurai

Comments about Taylor NS34ce Cutaway Nylon-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar (2010 Model):

I had been searching for a quality nylon string guitar for some time when I came across an older model NS34-CE hanging on the wall. I was unsure about spending so much money on an instrument (I'm not exactly rolling in money) but the tone captured me from the first chord I struck. I knew I had to buy it. It took me some time to muster up the courage to put a down payment on it, but I don't regret the decision one bit. This is quite simply one of the best sounding nylon string guitars I have ever heard, much less played. If you've never played a Taylor, do yourself a favor and try one. You won't be disappointed.

Not for Classicists

By Scooterflash

from Florida

Comments about Taylor NS34ce Cutaway Nylon-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar (2010 Model):

I've read some of the other reviews and I need to say this: This guitar is not intended for Classical Players, so if you play classical 5 finger pieces, look to a traditional classical guitar. This nylon string gem is meant for steel string players who want a nylon string guitar for those softer songs we sometime play. I like the nylon strings, because if strings are attacked properly, a guitarist can create subtle overtones, harmonics, both soft and loud volume. This nylon string guitar is the best I've come across for this style of playing. I will always play my steel strings (I own 14 acoustic guitars from Taylor to Martin to hand built made by master luthiers. But for those songs that need a different depth of character voicing, this Taylor can't be beat. It also works well for latin beats and flamenco style.

Taylor NS34ce

By John N.

Comments about Taylor NS34ce Cutaway Nylon-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar (2010 Model):

What can I say? It's a Taylor! I'm a 'beginner'; been playing for about a year now--Classical Guitar. And using cheap student model guitars, because I didn't think my level and ability demanded/deserved anything better. I was wrong!!!! I've had this for five days now, and can't put it down. I play mostly unplugged, but I've also had it plugged in; either way, its a great sound. It's tough to play in normal classical position; i.e. left foot on a pedal, but I've adopted a sort of variation to this. Sound is even across the range. Very nice feel to the fingerboard. Takes a while to get the extra hard tension strings to stay in tune, but once they're there, it's smooth sailing. I would buy another Taylor in a heartbeat. Great quality guitar.

Taylor NS34ce Nice Idea!

By OpenDGuitar

from Lynchburg, VA

Comments about Taylor NS34ce Cutaway Nylon-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar (2010 Model):

I am currently shopping for a hybrid guitar; I play classical and steel string for fingerstyle tunes. I was drawn in by the soft classical tones joined with longer/narrower neck plus great electronics. Not to mention its easy on your hands. Sat and played this through a range of tunes. It doesn't perform like either classical or steel string, and requires its own method of attack. Right hand technique needs to be a bit harder than classical to extract clear tones, while left hand technique can't slide around as easily as steel string. Better strings than music store/old strings might help. Bass a bit muddy without the hard right hand attack; it apparantly takes higher tension classical strings to drive the top. Judge it on its own merit and don't compare to its parents -- it is a great guitar if you play on its terms.

The gig machine

By Roig

Comments about Taylor NS34ce Cutaway Nylon-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar (2010 Model):

The Taylor NS34-CE nylon string is a very good looking and playable guitar. I have mine for about a year, and I play it every day and gig all weekends. Taylor does not let me down, this guitar have I nice tone for a singer. This guitar is not intended to play classical music, if you want that buy something else. I try normal tension strings just for an experiment but this change the pristine tone of the guitar and I return to extra-hard tension strings. The last thing I want to say is that this guitar makes me happy and I?m very satisfied with my purchace.

Good Guitar.

By scott5127

from New York.

Comments about Taylor NS34ce Cutaway Nylon-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar (2010 Model):

It is a nice guitar for the money, all solid wood. Also made in California. It does however use a Grand Auditorium shaped body, meaning that you can't play it using correct posture for classical guitar. It sounds and plays phenomenally, and the Grand Auditorium shape allows it to have a richer low-end than most conventional classical guitars. I was also very impressed with the electronics, the Fishman Prefix covered all tonal ranges clearly and distinctively. Overall, I would say that if you aren't a classical guitarist that plays using the traditional posture, this guitar is good for you. If you are looking for a guitar to play professionally, this might not be the best choice.

Great Quality, but not for classical players

By SmoothD

from Ashland, OR

Comments about Taylor NS34ce Cutaway Nylon-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar (2010 Model):

First off I will say that this guitar would have gotten five stars easily, except for one thing. It was definitely not designed for classical players who play on their left leg and use a footstool. The body of the guitar is like a regular acoustic, which means it is bigger than other nylon strings. This has caused me untold amounts of stress trying to find a good position to play in. Playing this guitar in classical style WILL cause you to have back and neck problems. For steel string players, this will not be a problem, and everything else about the quality of the guitar is superb. If you do buy it, make sure you have a good chiropractor.
