Comments about Traveler Guitar EG-1 Standard V2 Electric Travel Guitar:
Folks, this is the best travel electric out there, hands down. It weighs about a kilogram, and comes with a case in which I put a short cable, Danelectro Honeytone, tuner and picks. Bam, I'm ready for hotel room practice, or even playing in a friend's living room or a café terrace. The Zebra HB delivers a rich sound, at least for what I do, which is open-tuned blues, soul and rock with a slide (think Keef). BUT. The tuning system, though ingenious and fairly accurate, is not adequate for ensemble stage work. The strings (I use 11-50) have a tendency to go flat -- at an onstage jam yesterday, the top E dropped nearly a full step when a capo was applied at the fifth fret. I've had to deal with this before. The company gives fast and good support, but I haven't found a solution for this. If you expect to perform in anything but solo busking or an intimate setting while traveling, you'll need another option. If you want the guitar to maintain your chops or work out ideas while traveling, the full-scale neck and well-designed body of this piece will be a joy to you. The bottom line: It's still the best travel electric I ever tried, and it's well worth what they're asking for it. A good-sounding electric with a real neck that fits in an overhead luggage bin without risk of breakage? There ain't many, and this is one.
