I bought this guitar after much research and deliberation, unsure of whether it would suit my needs or not. When it arrived, I was nothing short of amazed. It was even smaller than I'd imagined (a good thing) but it plays and even sounds like a full-sized guitar when plugged in. I can sling the tiny gig back diagonally across my back, and it's hard to tell that I'm even carrying a guitar! It also carries very well when I'm on my motorcycle. Don't worry: the lap rest is detachable. I never use it. Get yourself a good sling and you'll be golden. This guitar is truly a piece of engineering genius, and definitely worth every penny.

Its a nice product, does what it should. The output jack on my guitar was a little tight for the cabling I used, and somehow the jack wiring broke when I removed it (this was after the second time playing plugged in). Got on the line with them immediately, took them two weeks (well 13 days) to tell me the replacement jack I needed was out of stock. Just in time for a month long trip. Pretty disappointing.

Comments about Traveler Guitar Ultra-Light Acoustic-Electric Travel Guitar:

Brought guitar on multiple flights to Hawaii and stowed in carryon overhead compartment without issue. Strap to your back and take it anywhere! Neck has good feel and low action. Sometimes it's challenging to find best sitting position, but I would buy it if you can't be without your axe on a trip.

Comments about Traveler Guitar Ultra-Light Acoustic-Electric Travel Guitar:

The compact design allows me to unpack a playable guitar at the end of a flight, which is awesome. The attachable lap rest wasn't really usable to me even after I coated it with tubing so it wouldn't slide, because it still was neck-heavy. If you have to hold the neck up with your left hand, all you can do is strum chords and I am a fingerpicker. What I did was make a cutout of my Telecaster profile from a beautiful piece of 1/4 inch Baltic Birch plywood, and carefully drilled quick-connect inserts into the back of the Ultralight, so as not to interfere with the electronics, etc. on the front. Then I attached the thin back to the guitar with the bridge lined up where the Tele's would be. The result? Feels like a normal guitar, cradles solidly under the right arm, and I can play anything on it! I leave the lap rest at home and just carry an allen key that fits the 'bolts', and the plywood back goes into my suitcase first, under socks and jeans. Assembles in two minutes. It even sounds better! No more being in Cuba or Mexico or Europe with nothing to play! I had to re-work the fret ends though, because they leave them rough in China, apparently.

Comments about Traveler Guitar Ultra-Light Acoustic-Electric Travel Guitar:

I had one of these 5 years ago but sold it because I found it difficult to play. However, I have just bought another because every travel guitar alternative I've tried since hasn't matched what this offers. This little club is well built and stays in tune after my frequent transpacific trips. I've tried others but they were all either too large, too fragile, or too weird to play (short scales and minis). I came back to this model because I love it's scale length and left hand feel and I find the piezo beautiful sounding when hooked up to my macbook.

I've adapted to the lack of a body to orient my right arm by grabbing a pillow or rolling up a sweatshirt. Good enough.

Comments about Traveler Guitar Ultra-Light Acoustic-Electric Travel Guitar:

I drive alot for work, and will end up with down time when I reach my location. So, I thought a practice guitar would be perfect for me to take along. I wanted something small, portable, yet fully functional to get some solid playing time.

This guitar fit the bill perfectly. The included gig bag makes this so easy to grab and take with me. It's small size fits easily in the cab of my work truck.

The guitar itself is a engineering wonder. The neck feels great and it stays in tune very nicely. I don't even bother with the detachable lap rest, but that is a nice feature to have.

It is very quiet. It really isn't an acoustic at all. It's just like playing an electric without being plugged in. That works fine for me in most of my locations. I can hear it and it's just practice anyhow.

However, I also bought a Vox Headphone amp. It really sounds great and the pickup puts out a very solid sound. Best part is that little amp fits right into the side pouch of the gig bag as well.

It's a slightly body heavy, so the neck wants to rise up on me, but just using a strap at all times fixed that issue.

It is solid wood construction, and feels well made, however, I do feel the guitar is slightly overpriced. I caught it on sale, which helped. But, to be honest, since it fits my needs so perfectly, I feel I'm paying (and happy to do so) for the convenience it provides.

This is exactly what I was after, and I can't wait to take it with me on an upcoming trip to Alaska.

This is the perfect practise guitar. I've been using it with GarageBand on the iPhone (through the cheapest iRig dongle) with minus-one tracks and it's just perfect for practising wherever you are.

The only problem IMO is the rather flat sound that you get from the bridge pickup. But it's not that bad. If you would like better sound you may wish to check out the other models.

Comments about Traveler Guitar Ultra-Light Acoustic-Electric Travel Guitar:

"Honey, we are going to Chicago for 8 days..." "How am I going to practice my guitar so I don't sound awful at my lesson on Monday?" This was the conversation that prompted me to purchase a light traveler guitar. Ironically, I was in a music store and saw a traveler guitar one week prior to this conversation. I played it for about 30 seconds and thought that I might get one of these in the future. After the aforementioned dialogue, the universe was telling me to buy one of these for travel. I decided to get the ultra light acoustic electric in the natural finish. I received it the day before I left for Chicago. I took it out of the box and it was set up and in tune. For the record, that never happened with any of my guitars. I started playing and the magic occurred instantly. I showed my wife the guitar: "Wow, that's really a guitar... it's really small..." "Just listen to the sound..." "Wow, it sounds great and you can carry it on the plane instead of checking it in..." I took it to the airport and plugged it in to a cute red Marshall Amp; I plugged in my headphones and it sounded amazing. Not only will I use this for traveling, but I will take it to work, and use it for my lessons if I don't have time to go home and grab one of my other guitars. It's cute, portable, and exactly what I need to ensure daily practicing. To be clear, it's an excellent practice guitar, and I'm sure I could plug it in and play in small venues. However, it's the best practice guitar and I'm so pleased with it. I would recommend it for all of the aforementioned reasons. I'm looking forward to more products from Traveler Guitar. Best, Evan J.

Since I own a few expensive guitars, I bought this light acoustic electric for travel and breaks during work. Since there is no headstock, I don't have to worry. If the natural finish gets a few scratches, I won't lose sleep. The product is well made for practicing. One could probably do a low pressure gig with it, but it's primarily a practice guitar to work on my chops. It's a great value and meets my needs.

Comments about Traveler Guitar Ultra-Light Acoustic-Electric Travel Guitar:

This is a great invention! I changed the strings to a thinner gauge electric and it plays just great. Stays in tune and works well with amp and VOX headphone plug. The lack of a body makes it a little challenging to hold, but you get the hang of it after a while. The lap support is helpful in this regard but the material is pretty slick so it slides around a bit. I slipped a bit of plastic tubing over it and that helped, but some type of soft rubber, maybe with some notches cut into it would be better. Haven't flown with it yet, but can't imagine it will be a problem. In addition to its functionality, it's really cool to look at - kind of a work of art.

Comments about Traveler Guitar Ultra-Light Acoustic-Electric Travel Guitar:

While you wont get a full blown acoustic experience, the build and playable quality is pretty solid enough to warrant not being bored or frustrated with, no sharp edges, no horrible not staying in tune, or sticky frets and excessive buzz. The portability of this is astounding, and works great as a practice guitar for when you cant play a full one is a real plus. You have a full scale neck, and when you plug in, you can really put the guitar to recording or amplification use via modeling or effects. It's shipped with extra light 10s and I think heavier gauges would not be ideal for this. But in contrast the light strings make for a bit of a fast play, electric like in feel and will definitely keep you engaged.

The cons are just what you sacrifice to have easy access to a guitar to play on and transport. Not comfortable back bracing, a diving neck (but then it's not heavy really), a metal attachment that digs in a bit. Get a simple strap hook up and your problems are solved. Also as a tip, it's a simple guitar, if you find a blemished one or a sale at a good price it's a stupid good deal, and are you going to really care if something like this is banged up to begin with?

Makes for a lot of fun, and a chance to play/practice anywhere.

It plays like a full sized guitar and fits in a suitcase for travel. Nice. It's well set up as it came.
As the other reviewers noted, use a guitar strap and use the metal frame thing if you need/want it.

Comments about Traveler Guitar Ultra-Light Acoustic-Electric Travel Guitar:

I had to copy an earlier review and edit because he said almost exactly what I would have said:
I travel a lot for work, and will end up with down time when I reach my location. So, I thought a practice guitar would be perfect for me to take along. I wanted something small, portable, yet fully functional to get some solid playing time.

This guitar fit the bill perfectly. The included gig bag makes this so easy to grab and take with me. It's small size fits easily under the back seat of my truck.

I also carry a Snark and a field recorder.

My job has a lot of downtime. I keep this behind my desk and practice arpeggios when no one is looking.
