OVERVIEW

The Washburn WD100DL is a steel string acoustic guitar that features a mahogany top and dreadnought size, making it ideal for both practice and performance.

Mahogany is dark-colored wood that, when used as a guitar soundboard, creates a warm, full tone with a character all its own. The WD100DL also features mahogany back and sides that further help to balance out the powerful low- and high-end inherent to the dreadnought body shape. The result is a sound that's both pleasing and loud enough to be heard in small venue without amplification.

The Washburn WD100DL has a full-length 25-1/2" mahogany neck with a rosewood fretboard. Other appointments include a rosewood bridge, vintage style headstock, die-cast tuners, and a gig bag.

*Note: Restock version does not have Washburn flower logo on headstock.

Excellent value with warm tone and strong volume.

Overall, this is a nice guitar. It will need setup upon arrival; if you are a beginner player or not experienced enough, PLEASE take this to a local guitar shop to get set up. The neck on mine had WAY too much tension, so I loosened it up. The guitar also arrived slightly over-humidified, but that's better than it being overly dry and cracked.

Besides the required work needed to be done on it, I also did some optional work; just my personal preferences. I personally think this guitar looks great, but the gloss finish ruins everything. So I bought a can of Rustoleum Clear Matte Finish spray paint, removed the strings, pickguard (the pickguard was also misplaced on the guitar compared to the preview picture on the website), and hardware, and sprayed away...now it looks amazing! (In this review are the before and after pics - before pic is straight out of the box.) I also installed a strap button and restrung it with Martin medium-weight Phosphor Bronze strings; two more things beginners should take to a guitar shop to get done if they wish to do so.

Comparing this guitar to my old Yamaha F325, my only complaint is that playing/shifting positions is not as smooth; especially with the gloss finish. Then again, however, I've had my Yamaha for about 4 years, and my Washburn for a few days now. I look forward to seeing how my relationship with my Washburn guitar evolves!

Comments about Washburn WD100DL Dreadnought Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

I was looking for a new guitar that wouldn't break the bank. I found this Washburn on MF for sale then I noticed they had one "used" for even less. I did a little research a couldn't find any bad reviews so I grabbed it. When it arrived it was in the factory box and still had the plastic on the pick guard. The finish is gorgeous and with the gold tuning pegs it looks like a much more expensive guitar. I changed the strings and sanded down the bridge to lower the action. Let me tell you, this guitar sounds and feels awesome. I am very happy with this guitar and of course the great service from Musicians Friend. If this is what Washburn makes for its less expensive guitar I can't imagine what the higher priced models are like.

Comments about Washburn WD100DL Dreadnought Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

I researched, read, reviewed and researched some more... and it always came back to the Washburn. I then turned to my guitar friends and guitar instructors I knew... again, Washburn. So I bought this one in the natural finish, with the anticipation of learning the guitar. My girlfriend text her dad to ask him what kind of guitar he had. She got the reply, "It's a Washburn." Which is now an ongoing joke. Musician's Friend shipped it right over and in a few days I opened up my brand new, shiny Washburn. I slapped a tuner on in and tuned it up, where it has stayed. My guitar came strung with "D'Addario 80/20 Bronze" strings and a soft case. I added the Washburn hard case, which I love. I can't believe my progress and how I don't want to put this guitar down. This guitar was defiantly a great buy! All my friends have been envious of my purchase. This really is a great guitar for the money. "It's a Washburn"

Comments about Washburn WD100DL Dreadnought Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

I purchased this on a whim a while ago, it was on sale and I was in need of a new acoustic. I've always had good experiences with Washburn, they always seem to produce very high quality instruments, so I picked this one up.

I could not be happier with this purchase. It has an excellent feel to it, and sounds amazing. Why buy a 900$ guitar when you can get this sexy thing for a fraction of the cost, and lose out on no performance value? It even comes with a soft case. The stock strings are really nice as well, I have since replaced them with D'Addario EJ11 strings and it sounds magical.

If you are looking for a nice acoustic guitar, look no farther, this should be your next buy.

At this price point, you won`t find a better looking, better playing acoustic guitar. I bought the Natural finish as I`m partial to the look and sound of Mahogany, Beautiful full, rich sound. Great finishes. Frets were finished very nicely. Of course I shaved the saddle about an eighth of an inch to accommodate my style of playing, and while it was apart, I gave the rosewood fret board and bridge a generous drink of lemon oil, wiped away the excess and reassembled this beauty. After re-tuning I haven`t been able to put it down. What a fine instrument! As one of the other reviews pointed out - " If you buy one of these for yourself, get one for a friend."

I bought one, loved it - then bought one for my brother. I've used it as great guitar for recording. The bass is so well defined, not boomy but rich and clear. The tuners are really nice and the wood has a rich unique sound not like any of my many other guitars. Of course you have to know how to set it up and put good strings on it and you need to get it just right. I would describe it's warmth as closest to my 1973 Hummingbird. For me the overtones are not too complex to be out of tune with other instruments, but rich enough to sound like a live acoustic guitar. It's not a really loud guitar, but that is not what I look for - it's the quality of the sound. For the price you can just leave it laying around out of the case - but actually the wood is so nice, I have it hanging on the wall in the recording studio. A very pretty instrument.
