The AES620 blends award-winning design with killer tone!

The Yamaha AES620 Electric Guitar was an Editor's Pick Award-winner in Guitar Player magazine and a One Award winner in Guitar One magazine!

The set neck, single-cutaway mahogany body delivers fat, punchy chords and articulate solo sounds. The proven Yamaha AES Series string-thru-body bridge transmits more string vibration to the body for intense sustain while the offset design tightens lows and focuses the highs. The killer pickup array includes a Seymour Duncan JB at the bridge and a Yamaha alnico at the neck controlled by 2 volume knobs and one tone knob. You also get a flashy flamed maple top, a rosewood fretboard, abalone dot inlays, Grover tuners, and chrome hardware. Yamaha sculpted the front and back of the AES620 guitar for comfort with a distinctive look.

Firstoff, I have MANY guitars. I purchased this one when I was helping a friend look for a decent but inexpensive guitar. It was to be an improvement over the esquire he currently owns. I picked up this guitar for him to try, and instead found myself very much liking the playability of it. What really suprised me was the fact that this guitar comes stock with a Duncan 2HH setup. The front is an alnico, which some players resist, but it is very very warm and tonally there was very little adjustment needed to really bring out the guitars ablilities. While asthetically the AE is quilted (though not an eye catching quilt job), it at least gives the guitar an identity. If you enjoy Les Paul's and perhaps don't want to break the bank, or perhaps need a chop/gig "practice" guitar, this one holds it own. There was very little effort needed to make this guitar show what it has, and I enjoyed it so much I am still picking it up over a lot of others, simply because it really is easy to adjust and adapt to tunings and alt tunings as well as having a decent sustain despite being thinner in the body than a lot of guitars (think studo les paul). Don't let it fool you though, there is enought warmth and playability in the body to get you through. I purchased this guitar in red on sale. For the price, with everything that is included, you will be hard pressed to find a guitar that plays this easilly and is stock equipped this well. Short of 5 minutes of setup to my tastes, I haven't had any troubles. Feel safe picking one up.

this guitar isnt as amazing as these reviews claim it to be. The action is high, and when you lower it you get fret buzz. Its a slow playing guitar...Megadeth definatly uses a different model, or at least one that is tweaked for them. Besides the fact that every time i look at it, it makes me want to barf, it isnt a bad guitar for beginners.

    Excellent Valu

I started playing my AES 620 in my high school's jazz band my sophmore year, and later bought the guitar from the teacher. I have continuously played it for nearly 7 years now, and it has never let me down. There are a couple of things I would change on it though. I personally would prefer that it had a tremolo, or at least a Les Paul bridge to make the conversion easier. Also, I really don't like the way the cutout is not completely cutout, which makes it more difficult to reach the higher frets than a true Les Paul. The G string has a tendency to go out of tune when I bend it, but this is probably only due to the amount of use my guitar has seen. That being said, the sound is excellent, especially considering how little it cost me. It is an equally beautiful guitar (mine is the sunburst finish), the finish is absolutely beautiful, only a few little dings from being used. One last thing, if you have one and it shorts out, open up the compartment on the back where the pots are and check that the nut on the 1/4-inch output is tightened. Mine came loose and was shorting out on the pots.

    great beginner guitar

    By Turtle424

The guitar itself it top notch, yamaha has created something comparable to some of my uncle's prs guitars for a fraction of the price. My friends who have played it can't believe that "Yamaha" is the name at the top of the headstock when they're used to playing gibsons and epis. The only problem i've had is that when i play bluesy stuff or anything with a lot of bends, the strings come out of tune pretty quickly, so tuning becomes a frequent activity

    Very Nice guitar!

    By Brandon-mRnsR

I'm very pleased with this guitar.. It came stock with the Duncan JB in the bridge which is my favorite pickup. be careful with this guitar though. Mine fell over backwards and the neck cracked at the headstock joint. Its repairable but it made me want to cry... get a hardshell case for this thing :)

    aes620

Bought this guitar for my niece 5 months ago, she had an epi studio which I felt she was outgrowing. Looked at lots of guitars, including Gibson, Esp, fender and epi elitists. Some were overrated or over priced or trying to be the cheaper versions of the real thing. This guitar (faded burst) looks nothing like the pictures you find here on this (or other) websites, it's absolutely gorgeous in real life and only weighs weighs about 7 lbs. The pickups are clear (seymour duncan and the yamaha), and the tuners are grover, action is good and the vol. and tone are smooth! This guitar in my estimation is as good sounding and as playable as any of the above heavy hitters. After getting this guitar my niece had the confidence to join a band and compete in some local battle of the bands, and have an instrument that doesn't have many negatives. The price is right also!

    One Ripping Beast

    By Willy Paul

I searched long and hard for a guitar which had all of the features I love (seymour humbuckers, grover tuners, sweet inlays, beautiful tone, etc). I have had this guitar for a year now and have been incredibly impressed with its performance. All of my guitar buddies love jammin on this thang. The resonance, sound, and feel is amazing. Much raspect 2 Yamaha!

    Great Guitar

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

I've owned this guitar for almost a year. I bought it when I saw Ty Tabor from Kings X play it live and found out that the guitarists from Our Lady Peace and Megadeth/Ohm played them. Well, needless to say, it's my main guitar live now. I traded in my Gibson SG because it was just sitting around after i started playing this. It's just stupid to pay more for less so I highly recommend this guitar. And get one now, this prices for Yamaha guitars will only go up. Yamaha guitars are played by members of Our Lady Peace, Megadeth, Ohm, Deftones, Orgy, ect.

    AES620

I purchased this guitar during the summer and have been playing it often. The guitar is great for lead and rhythm work. The pickups on this guitar are amazing. It's very versatile sound wise, and the neck is smooth as can be. I only have one real complaint. I haven't had any problems with the knobs as other reviewers have, but the strings go out of tune pretty easily. You might want to take that into consideration before you buy one from Musicians Friend. I bought one because Yamaha gear is made with great quality and a guitar shop that was having a moving sale gave me a deal on it. All in all a great guitar.

Don't let the name fool you

Most everyone, including myself, thinks "Yahama - yeah, whatever!" But after having played (and purchased) one, all I can say is "Wow!" This thing plays, looks and feels like guitars 2-3 times the cost and with some of the same features. The SD pickup (not Duncan Designed, but an actual Seymour Duncan) along with the Grover tuners and awesome finish make this a no-brainer. A beautiful variation on a Les Paul body style - without paying for a name.

    WOW

I can definitely say one thing. You will not be disappointed. This guitar offers a hell of a lot more than what the price implies. Great fast neck, great pickups, great finish. I had a little prob with one of the knobs though, luckily it was still under guarantee and got fixed for free. So, for this price, this is the guitar to have. I'm proudly a owner myself.
