This is the guitar Martin Taylor played on albums like "Artistry" and that gorgeous tone is what turned me on to it. So, I bought one and now I wouldn't part with it. I play fingerstyle Jazz and ragtime. On jazz, using the floating humbucker the tone can be really rich and mellow and the sustain is excellent. For ragtime, I switch to the acoustic/electric mix and it gives me more of a honky-tonk tone with full but brilliant tones. I recommend D'Addario 11 gauge Jazz Lite chromes, flat wound strings. String choice makes a big difference on the action of this instrument, I've found. The quality is excellent all round and I don't think you'll find a better value in a pro quality archtop.
I've owned this guitar for 3 years, and am totally satisfied with it. This guitar is perfect for fingerstyle playing, and both jazz pickin', this is the same guitar used by Chuck Loeb, and if you've heard his delicious bop lines on this guitar...that's enough said. It's easily one of the most resonant jazzboxes out there...it's almost an acoustic resonance....but you have to put strings in the 11's or 12's guages to take full advantage of this guitar.Very well constructed....I own a gibson es137, Les Paul standard, Gretsh 5125...this guitar has it's own voice...you will be very happy with this guitar.
This guitar is rather amazing. The set up, action and tone (amplified) of this guitar is quite exceptional. I own several high end guitars such as Taylor, Martin and Gibson. Although my Yamaha AEX1500 is not in their price ranges, it fits right in with these fine guitars. A good friend of mine - a former Ga. State Guitar champion - confirms he has never in his 80+ years played a finer instrument. I have no doubt that if this guitar had an american maker's name on the headstock the price would be many times it present selling price.
This is a beautiful guitar. Finish and factory setup are top notch. I have some minor quibbles with the pure acoustic (non-amplified) tone - but given that it is marketed and advertised as a 'hybrid', the slightly dull natural tone is not totally unexpected. The amplified tones are quite nice - the single magnetic pickup in the neck position has a sweet jazz tone (which is what I was looking for). The amplified acoustic tones are decent, if not breathtaking. Great value in a jazz box with a touch of acoustic sparkle.
This guitar plays really nicely. The neck is very comfortable to play. The guitar is nice to hold. The sound is nice and full, even with the acoustic pick-up. Using the acoustic and the neck together make for some great tonal varieties. I love this guitar. I play all types of fingerstyle, ragtime, blues, and jazz. I wanted a guitar that would cover all my gigs and this is it.
This is a VERY playable and nice sounding jazz box. I plug it into a class A tube amp, turn it up half-way, and get a clear sound with mellow overtones. It is an excellent instrument for the fingerstyle pieces I play. I would, however, like to have a deeper, more silky throated neck pickup than the stock option. Overall, this is a bargain for people looking for a clean jazzy sound on a budget.
Outstanding playability, incredible action. Bridge pickup could be deeper tone.
