A nylon-stringed guitar for the smallest hands.
The Yamaha CGS102 1/2 Size Acoustic Guitar is a half-size instrument with a 21"-scale length and 3-3/4" body depth. It's perfect for young musicians ages 4 to 7. It is not a toy however, as are many of the guitars in this size range. The Yamaha 1/2-size guitar has a spruce top; nato back, sides, and neck; and rosewood bridge and fretboard. This little Yamaha guitar is tonally well-balanced and suprisingly robust.

I got this guitar from a friend, it wasnt new, but it plays great! (for being 2 years old) easy fretability. It sounds great, even with electric guitar strings, I'm not a big fan of nylon strings, but this buddy made them sound great! one downside, mine only stayed in tune about 3-4 days, but the tuners are really really old, all in all, this is a GREAT GUITAR, GO BUY IT!
I bought this guitar for my 11 year old daughter for Christmas and it has been ideal for her to learn on. Compact size, so easy for her to play and lug around, and sounds great for the price.
Most 1/2 size guitars are junk. I bought one a few years back (no names mentioned) and it was garbage. I bought this one for my nephew for Christmas. It got here and I unpacked it and tuned it, and then started playing it. Eventually my wife had to remind me that this was a GIFT, and I needed to pack it back up, wrap it up and give it to the nephew. This is NOT a toy at all, and it shows a good bit of quality in the construction and finishing. It also sounds better than any equivalent "student guitar" in its price range. I am seriously tempted to get one for myself for a travel and practice guitar. Great value.
I bought this guitar for my daughter (8) last summer from MusciciansFriend.com and she's been taking lesson's with it ever since. She loves the guitar, her instructor compliments it every week and even I enjoy playing around with it when she's not looking. Keeps in tune remarkably well and sounds great. The Yamaha is small enough for her (she's tiny) yet I find it comfortable to play on too. Website's great too. Had to return a different guitar and had no problems. Extremely satisfied with the whole experience!!
