I will first admit that I think the one I bought at a local store is a gem. I have played several others of the same model and even though they are all great, mine just feels different. In a "This guitar is just amazing!" sort of way. Before I bought it I tried out guitars over double the price, as I was prepared to spend a good amount of money. Even though they looked nicer, the sound didn't even come close to this. The neck is very smooth and fast, but it is a big guitar. I am 6 feet tall and this feels like a big guitar to me. But it definitely adds to the sound. It was perfectly set up when purchased and I have not had any problems with it for almost 2 years. It sounds so great, my friend ordered one for himself. If anyone has a negative review about this guitar I'm sure it was just that 1 in 5,000. As stated before I have played several of these and each one has felt very solid and well built.

Comments about Yamaha FG730S Solid Top Acoustic Guitar:

I purchased the 12 version in the 700 series first, and was accidentally sent this 6-stringer, which I played briefly but returned for the original purchase of a 12-string. This instrument sounded and played so well, that I sold both of my Breedlove Atlas Stage models, one concert body, the other a dread cutaway, and then went back and picked up this Yamaha 6-stringer. I learned inadvertently that Country Joe MacDonald(and the Fish)drug(literally)one of these 700 series guitars up on the stage of Woodstock one August day in 1969 and began his set by shouting out, "Gimme an F." I digress a bit, but the point has been made by many reviewers here and elsewhere on the Yamaha model reviews that this company knows what they are doing and builds an instrument typically one or two price levels above what you are asked to generally pay for one. I have owned this guitar three years now, and both it and the 12-string with nato sides and back, sound better and richer than they did when they were purchased and set up. I play nothing but 10-guage 80/20 phos bronze, mostly D'Addario EJ15's, and have never been displeased with the sound. The rosewood sides and back of this model really sets it apart and puts it on a par with instruments whose price points approach 3X! As I did with the 12-string, I put a Fishman Neo-D single coil sound hole-mounted pickup in with an instrument jack to replace the standard end pin, and even without a preamp, there is not much I have been able to complain about. While this combination sounds great through a larger stage amp rig, my prefered way is to run it into a little 15W solid state VOX Pathfinder with reverb and tremolo, mic it, and feed the signal into whatever PA or house system is being used. This arrangement is prone to far fewer problems with feedback and tone control than a large speaker system behind or beside you moving a lot of air, etc. Get one of the Silver Creek vintage 1940's style archtop cases made by Guardian here at MF, invest in an Oasis humidifier and keep an eye on it, and you will have an outstanding instrument and music value, of which there are not many these days!

Comments about Yamaha FG730S Solid Top Acoustic Guitar:

This model is one of the best acoustic guitar values on the planet, in my humble opinion. I've been playing a long time and have owned guitars made by just about every good large brand out there. Yamaha has been making good guitars for so long, they really have this down to a science and, IMHO, I don't think they have any competition in or near this price range. Their quality is consistently excellent, fit and finish consistently tight, great playability out of the box. They simply know what they are doing, and it definitely shows on the FG730S. If you are a beginner to intermediate-level player, or a very experienced player who wants a good-sounding guitar to play out without the risk of losing thousands if your guitar gets stolen, the FG730S is an excellent choice that will last a lifetime if cared for properly and will sound better with age because of the solid spruce top. If you are a beginner, once your playing and your ear have developed you will really begin to appreciate the quality of this instrument.

Comments about Yamaha FG730S Solid Top Acoustic Guitar:

I got this as a gift about 4-5 years ago and loved how it sounded out of the box. Through the years, I've played this guitar exclusively for hours a week. There's easily a few thousand hours on it at this point, and the sound has definitely started to become its own as the wood has gotten broken in. The action is great, and my fingers never get fatigued after playing for hours at a time. I almost never tune it, it stays in tune for weeks and weeks. Although I'm big on the idea that 99% of the sound comes from the fingers, I can't deny that this guitar has a beautiful sound.

I used to use an Ovation and this blows the socks off that guitar. So much easier to play barre chords. Sustain is fantastic on this guitar. Beginning to wonder what the higher end Yamaha's can do better than this guitar.

I got the yamaha FG730S has a spare guitar for my camp fire gigs. It would be a great starter guitar. The action is good right out of the box. The sound is very nice for the price. I would say that yamaha makes the best guitar for the price compared to others in the similar price range. Wish it was made somewhere else other than China. But, its still a good value with good workmanship.

The one I have sounds a bit twangy when played acoustic.. Have tried several different sets of strings but no help.
This guitar sounds much better when played through a amplifier.
Good price for the quality of construction.
