Comments about Yamaha FS700S Solid Top Concert Acoustic Guitar:

It is sad that the Yamaha FS700S guitar hasn't been more popular than what it is. The smaller body probably scares folks off. How sad. I bought this for a beginning guitar student, and was impressed with the sound. My set-up for more ideal sound: I replaced the saddle and bridge pins with Tusq, for more sustain, clarity, and tone. I lowered the string tension down three frets (a lot!) to obtain richer overtones. Here is where the smaller body is an advantage; it allows one to use lower tunings, giving the sound of a bigger guitar.
The student is a medium sized woman, who is too small to handle a dreadnaught. She loves this instrument.
Drawbacks: Being a perfectionist, it would be nice if it came in at least laminated rosewood, for yet richer tone. I would also like to see it available in a maple back, for an awesome bluegrass tone when played in the lower tunings. For what little you pay, it is a great deal and gives good tone for the wood that came with it.
I do recommend this guitar!

Comments about Yamaha FS700S Solid Top Concert Acoustic Guitar:

People ask me all the time about acoustic guitars. You want one with a solid top, Yamaha's 700 S has that. S stands for solid. And it's spruce, and it is well braced. Over bracing kills the sound. This guitar comes with lights and they drive the top well. I have an idea mediums would make it holler, if you want loud out of an acoustic. This is a well built guitar and it's got Yamaha's finesse. It's made in Indonesia, so what, totally does not matter. What matters is these folks are doing great work. Fit and finish is good, tuners are good. Nice fret work, nice saddle and nut, action is impeccable. Can you tell I like this guitar? I would put it up against Epiphone, Hohner, Seagull, Takamine, Fender and others in the under four hundred range. You cannot beat this 700 S. I had a 720 lefty and it was a tad nicer. Put a pickup in that one for a friend, it was his first guitar. Still has it, and plays live with that Yamaha. There are lots of good guitars, this one tops the list for 199. Thanks MF for carrying the Yamaha line, they're wonderful.

Comments about Yamaha FS700S Solid Top Concert Acoustic Guitar:

This is my fourth acoustic. Nut width is exactly 43mm, space at the bridge is 2", scale is 25". I have the bigger FG700 and recently bought the smaller FS700 and I didn't have high expectations given the smaller body. Wrong! This small guitar is around 1/8" deeper than the FG and the sound is even fuller than the FG. When I bought the FG I had to change the stock strings and put an O-Ring to get the sound that I wanted. But the FS has it all. I'm not contemplating to change anything to this little guitar. Even the stock strings sound so pleasant that when is time to change them I will try to get the same strings from Yamaha. Sound is well balanced and loud considering its size. I also have a Seagull Entourage, but its a completely different guitar; not better or worse, simply different. Yesterday I was in a store playing Takamine and Ibanez acoustics, but they do not sell Yamaha. None of the Ibanez or Takamines of similar size and shape could compare to the Yamaha. I took out the FS to play along the employee and he kept asking me to hand him the FS.

Comments about Yamaha FS700S Solid Top Concert Acoustic Guitar:

I've been playing guitar for many years. I usually keep towards electric guitars but I've always had a knack for the sound of acoustic guitars. I was at a local shop not too long ago and I had the luxury of trying out the FG700S and the FS700S. They both are exactly the same, except the FS700S has a slightly smaller body. I fell in love with the FS700S because of the somewhat smaller body style. If you DON'T like the smaller body style and you PREFER the bulkier body style, then the FG700S is for you. Anyways, I can sit and play this acoustic for hours. The sound is fantastic and the strings are set just right. I'm not a fan of acoustics with higher set strings. The ONLY negative observation I have found is that the guitar loses tune. However, this guitar is still brand new so that could be the reason for it losing tune. If you're looking for a great sounding guitar at a fair price, then look no further. This guitar is great for both starters and experienced guitar players.

Comments about Yamaha FS700S Solid Top Concert Acoustic Guitar:

When I tried out this guitar in the store, it sounded so rich and full that only guitars that cost more than five times as much (or more) could rival the sound. The solid spruce top resonates wonderfully, projects well, and has great sustain. The neck is thin, smooth, and fast. Fit and finish is great. Try it and you will not be disappointed!

I have 3 more expensive guitars; and I bought this guitar as a knock-around guitar for practicing and for company to play when they come over. But now, I won't really be knocking it around. It is very easy to play, stays in tune, is light-weight with a good feel and I just have a lot of fun playing it. If I had it to do all over again; I would buy this guitar as my 1st beginner guitar. You can't go wrong for the price

Comments about Yamaha FS700S Solid Top Concert Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this guitar for my 10 year old son for Christmas as an upgrade for his 3/4 size acoustic that sounded terrible. He's been playing for a year now and wanted a full sized guitar with a smaller body. This thing blew me away with how great it sounds for the price. I find myself grabbing it and jamming whenever I pass by his room. Of course, it doesn't sound as good as my Martin, but at two bills, it is an excellent value. It sounds very balanced especially when finger picking. I find the shape and size of the neck very playable for bar chords. He throws it in a gig bag for lessons and bangs it around, and it manages to stay in tune with minimal adjustment. I am planning on picking up another to keep at our lake house during the summer.

I like the guitar's feel and neck, although mine was not perfectly sanded. The sound it very clean and very bright. Very nice for playing with fingers or picking strings, but strumming with a pic will reveal limitations on the bottom end.

Comments about Yamaha FS700S Solid Top Concert Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this guitar a few months ago I will keep it brief. If anyone wants to have a quality instrument with a very low investment, this is definitely your guitar. I would swear this is a mid-level guitar in a blind test. Sounds great, virtually zero fret buzz out of the box, stays in tune suprisingly well, even in aggressive hot-to-cold temperature changes. My one compaint...I have no idea what could possibly cause this, but I've broken several strings on this thing when they were less than a week old. That has never happened to me on any other guitar in normal circumstances. They seem to be breaking at the bridge every time. The problem could be solved by getting some fresh string pegs made out of a softer material. I have no idea but it's worth a shot. Perhaps my problem is a freak incident as it does seem incredibly odd. Anyway, this STILL remains as my number one recommended acoustic for beginners with an uncertain commitment level, or for experienced musicians who need a cheap workhorse.

Comments about Yamaha FS700S Solid Top Concert Acoustic Guitar:

Yamaha FS600S is a true "folk" style guitar. The body size bout is 15" - comfortable to hold with no sacrifice in sound quality. Yamaha also makes the FG600S which is a dreadnaught guitar with lower bout at 15 1/2 inches (larger body size)but this guitar is a bit bulky and I prefer the smaller body size.

Comments about Yamaha FS700S Solid Top Concert Acoustic Guitar:

The pros:It sounds great, very full bottom end, good mids, not sparkling highs but not bad for the price. Also the neck feels great, this one actually has a flamed nato neck, but honestly that's just the luck of the draw. Now the cons:The tops are inconsistent(again luck of the draw)this one has an annoying looking imperfection(a small knot) right in the middle of the top.People have complained about the tuners, for the price they are comparable if not better than most in this price range,I personally have not had any major issues with them. The plastic bridge upon inspection seemed a bit loose fitting,I put some tape around the bottom so it fits better and doesn't fall out when you change the strings, but these are relatively minor gripes;for a 2 beans guitar it sounds and plays great. Why they didn't put a dot on the 3rd fret I really don't know, cost cutting perhaps- the FG710S folk model has that option. If I had the choice again I may have went with that model since it also has an (arguably)better quality spruce top.If you look past the little things and LISTEN to the guitar you may realize(as I did) that this is indeed a great guitar for the price.

I'm mainly a flute and banjo player. But I picked up an old Harmony Acoustic Guitar ar an Estate Sale; in great condition and good sound. That is how the seed was planted to learning the acoustic guitar. This Yamaha looked like a good deal, so I purchased it to augment the Harmony, which tends to slip on the tuning. Love the sound, fit, and finish of this Yamaha. Beautiful sound. I use it mostly for gospel, county, and Latin music.

I chose the tobacco burst and I think it looks beautiful. The action seems good to me but I don't pretend to be an expert. . In summation this guitar is a great value .Its got a solid wood top you don't always get that at this price point

Going to replace strings and get them lowered. Other than that, it has rich full sound and looks are killer.
