Comments about Shure SLX24/BETA87A Handheld Wireless Condenser Microphone System:
My theatre group purchased 3 of the SLX BETA87A's to replace some old generic wireless handhelds. After about a year of use, I can say that they do hold up well. The kids handling them are high schoolers, 14-18 year olds, who don't always take the most care of stuff, but these mics handle the abuse well. One of the three has a tiny crack in the battery enclosure, but that is all.The sound that is reproduced is very faithful. It's tough to distort these mics, and with kids running the sound, it's vital that it be easier for them to figure out. Also: the channel switching is very easy to do, so that we can eliminate any signal drops that do occur during sound check. Simply point and sync. That's much easier than taking out mini-screwdrivers and fiddling with knobs, especially in a dark stage. The rackmount included is a must, and the lower-end Shure stuff does not include it, but this does. Also, rear-facing antennae are nice, so that our portable rack isn't all cluttered. I am planning on buying some of these for my band. Definitely a good buy, although a bit on the pricy side.
