Warmth and balanced note-to-note clarity with natural compression.
In his youth, Seymour Duncan spent time in London and aided fellow young guitar players with defining their sound through pickups. This wouldn't be much of a story if one of these lads didn't go on to change the world. Seymour's special rewound PAFs went into a Les Paul and captured a sound that blasted through a Marshall stack and into history. These same pickups are now available as the Whole Lotta Humbucker.
The recipe for these pickups starts with a rough cast Alnico 5 magnet, plain enamel wire, and Seymour's unique wind pattern. The bridge is a hotter-than-vintage 8.78k DC resistance and the neck is similarly beefy at 8.20k. Tonally, the rough cast magnets add warmth and balanced note-to-note clarity so everything sounds bigger. What is sonically unique about the Whole Lotta Humbucker pickups is the way that they push your amp and add a very slight natural compression and sustain to your playing.
Use the Whole Lotta Humbucker set for the "original" sound or try the bridge with an Alnico 2 magnet neck pickup, like the Pearly Gates, for a distinct in-between position tone. Utilize the 4-conductor cable on each pickup with push/pull pots or mini-switches for complete flexibility.
Use in any Mahogany or warm-toned solid body guitar with a Rosewood fingerboard for the "original" sound.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-18 Whole Lotta Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup Set:
I bought these pickups from mf a month ago and just got time to install them today. I put them in an Epiphone G400 Walnut that I purchased from mf several years ago and the difference in that guitar is night and day. This pickup set reproduced the sound I've been hearing in my head and I'm not even done tweaking them in yet. The installation instructions that came in the box were not hard to follow and this is the first set of pickups I have ever changed. Thanks to Seymour Duncan for a great product and Musician's Friend for great service. Get the Led out!
