Akai Professional

Melodic performance in the palm of your hand.

The Akai LPK25 Laptop Performance Keyboard is a USB-MIDI controller for musicians, producers, DJs and other music creators. The keyboard measures less than 13" across and weighs under a pound, so it fits easily into your laptop case, backpack, or messenger bag for extreme portability.

Keyboard players who want to work with software on their computer will find that the Akai LPK25 gives their laptop the keys they need to express themselves anywhere. The LPK25 is a scaled-down relative to the Akai MPK series of keyboard performance controllers. The diminutive keyboard is made up of 25 miniature, velocity-sensitive keyboard keys with synth action.

The Akai LPK25 Performance Keyboard contains an arpeggiator, which steps through chords automatically, assisting musicians with creating quick melodic ideas. Sustain, octave up and down, and tap tempo controls round out the Akai LPK25 keyboard controller's easy-to-learn layout.

The Akai LPDK25 offers plug-and-play with Mac and PC computers and requires no software driver installation or wall power for operation. The LPK25 Laptop Performance Keyboard has 4 memory banks for programming and recalling settings appropriate to the software programs you use.

Features

  • USB-MIDI controller works with virtually all audio software
  • 25 velocity-sensitive mini-keyboard keys

This is a simple 2-octave keyboard. A true keyboardist would call this a "toy" but when on-site and you need to add pads or percussion or basic keys parts, this can be a life saver. Nicely made equipment even though plastic. And I've used it with 32-bit Windows (XP & Vista) as well as 64-bit Mac. To the best of my knowledge, I've had no problems whatsoever in any environment with this little dude.

I use this Akai LPK25 with Reaper.  The size is perfect, as it EASILY fits right between me and the computer keyboard.  The mini-keys work well for me, as I am not Mozart.  This unit does not have the feel of a grand piano, which is what one might expect.  It works fine with my 32-bit Windows XP.  You can take it anywhere you go with a laptop.  No driver to install, just plug it in.  This is great for the guitarist who just wants to add a little variety to their performance.  I think it's a very nice product.

Just purchased this, I have never owned a midi controller before. I have a little experience with the microkorg, but that's the extent of my keyboard knowledge. The LPK25 is great, I chose this over the nanokey because of the obvious advantages in quality. The two things I wish this keyboard had are mod buttons like the nanokey and a sustain pedal input. I don't understand why these portable controllers don't have sustain inputs, the little buttons can be so inconvenient. Other than that, great controller. Pairs great with a macbook and garage band. I'm still learning how to program the controller and use the arpeggiator, but that's not the keyboard's fault. If you're looking for something to experiment with midi on but don't want blow your cash, this is a great choice. i suggest you take advantage of the price match policy as well, you can save a good chunk of cash.
