MPC Renaissance Hardware
Combine MPC production workflow with the raw processing power of your computer. The MPC renaissance has16 genuine MPC pads that are backlit for easy visibility, 16 Q-Link controls, and an adjustable backlit LCD screen so you can see where you are at in the process at all times. The classic MPC Note Repeat, MPC Swing, and MPC Transport controls are all present to keep you with the familiar MPC style workflow you may be accustomed to. Connections include XLR/TRS combo inputs, Stereo 1/4” out, stereo assignable mix 1/4” out and S/PDIF I/O, dedicated turntable outputs, two MIDI inputs and two MIDI outputs, and a four channel USB 2.0 interface with a two-port USB 2.0 hub built-in.
MPC Software
Akai’s exclusive MPC software makes the transition from the original box to your computer a breeze. 128-Track sequencing ability will provide you with plenty of options when cruising through the massive 6GB+ sound library, including all of the sounds from the original MPC3000. There’s instant mapping and real-time adjustment of VST plugins, and the ability to record each track as an MPC drum program, Keygroup program, or VST/AU program. The MPC Renaissance software supports WAV, MP3, AIFF, REX, and SND audio file types, as well as any samples and sequences from any MPC ever made. Use the software as a stand alone DAW or inside of your favorite workstation as a VST or AU plugin. The software is both Mac and PC compatible.

The MPC Renaissance is great. So far no problems just minor crashes with the software. Turning the MPC on and loading the software. Sometimes the software doesn't read the MPC you have to turn on and off again to me that's minor. Love the pads and the feeling of the pads. Loading VST no problems at all.

This is by far the best MPC ever. However there are lots of bugs that I can duplicate over and over. Akai is aware and hasn't released an update yet. I hear 1.2 will be released in October. That should make it WAY more stable than it is now. The unit is still awesome. Maschine's OS is MORE STABLE right now than the renaissance. I'd give the renaissance another year before we have all the features stable and ready to kill off the maschine. The hardware--no complaints--it's awesome. My only beef is with the software, akai should have taken more time fine tuning before they release an unfinished flagship piece of equipment. Consider this...A IPAD 3 and Alesis IO dock with beatmaker 2/nanostudio and multitrack (16 tracks) apps. You already have a better than MPC application w/ more functions than the 4K at your finger tips...

In conclusion I do recommend the renaissance for producers. The renaissance is the best MPC released to date. However if the price is a factor there are ipad 3 apps and dedicated hardware that will give you the same functions in addition to MORE extras than the renaissance includes. If your bread isn't right get an Ipad 3 and Alesis IO dock with the nanostudio, beatmaker 2, and multitrack app. Or purchase the maschine which has no mic in's or out's like the io dock does. DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON MERCHANDISE that has several clones already out. PEACE.
