Comments about Alesis Q49 USB/MIDI Keyboard Controller:
This is a Midi controller for people who don't want a lot of bells and whistles and it is priced accordingly due to this factor. I don't think the action is as good as a M-audio Axiom But it is low-key and dosen't have tons of obnoxious knobs. Probably good for analog or digital synth modules.

Comments about Alesis Q49 USB/MIDI Keyboard Controller:
Great price. I've only owned it a couple of weeks but it seems to do the job with no issues so far.
Comments about Alesis Q49 USB/MIDI Keyboard Controller:
The thing with velocity that seems to be bothering some other reviewers is that you have to set it where you want it with the data slider. Press the MIDI button on the left, then press the key that has "velocity" written above it, then press the key that has "enter" written above it, and you can then set the velocity response using the data slider. After setting it, you can repeat the process for setting volume or whatever, just press the key with that parameter written above it.
I find the Alesis to be completely usuable, very durable, and a great value for the price. The keys are definitely springy, and very unrealistic feeling. It's not what you'd want to use for a piano sample library. It's great for synths, although there are no real time controls except for the data slider, the mod wheel, and the pitch bend. Also, it's just plain cumbersome having to use the keyboard's keys to enter MIDI information, but once you're used to it, it becomes second nature.
If you can live without assingable controls or weighted keys, it's hard to beat this.
Comments about Alesis Q49 USB/MIDI Keyboard Controller:
This keyboard doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but what it does have works great. If you are looking for something to learn on then this is your best bet for sure. If you are a professional then you might want to spend some more money on something a bit better. I have used it to record some parts and it works, but you might want something a bit more precise. Overall, you just can't really find something with these features and quality at such a low cost. My only regret is not buying one with more keys. 49 just isn't enough.
This keyboard doesn't have all the functions of it's larger cousins, but what it does have works well. The mod and pitch wheels can be a bit touchy. The velocity sensitivity is also a bit touchy, but I'm surprised how well it responds for being a cheap unit. I haven't had a chance to use the MIDI out port yet, but the USB works flawlessly. No need for any special software. Just plug it in and it works with everything I've thrown at it perfectly.
It's all plastic design makes it look cheap, though it feels solid and well built. It's got good weight to it and I'm sure it will take a good beating.
For good velocity, USB, quality craftsmanship, ease of use and the few other features this unit has for such a low price, I just can't think of a better deal.
Comments about Alesis Q49 USB/MIDI Keyboard Controller:
I haven't had any velocity problems, if you set it up with your computer's software right, it shouldn't be a problem. If you're looking into this keyboard, it's not for studio use, but this is perfect for giving me the amount of keys I need, it's simple, it works, it's durable, and doesn't take up alot of space in my dorm room. If you're looking at getting a good deal on it, I wouldn't be afraid to pick this up again.
Data entry slider, up/down octave buttons, a midi select/shift button, pitch bend and modulation wheels, and the keys. Also, it comes with Ableton Live Lite Alesis Edition. That's all she wrote.
Sturdy, feels light and on the cheaper side, but it can take a beating, and still work fine, which is what counts.
I got it on sale in-store on black friday and saved lots on it, so it's been worth it.
Comments about Alesis Q49 USB/MIDI Keyboard Controller:
A great value-conscious keyboard. I have had no issues with velocity as of yet, I have no idea what the other 3 reviews are talking about. If you go look on other online shops (an extremely popular one in particular that I probaly can't mention) you'll see that the reviews are totally different than the ones here. Look for second opinions, don't trust these 3 adjacent bad ones.
It gives you a perfectly great midi controller keyboard with added bonuses such as octave up or down, a data entry slider and many other adjustments that I haven't even bothered with or needed.
One of my keys is barely squeaky, but everything else is perfectly fine. It's clearly "cheap" keys, but the response is good enough for me to do any midi job I want.
At this price, the value is amazing. It's a good-sized keyboard with all your standard keyboard features at a low, low price.
Comments about Alesis Q49 USB/MIDI Keyboard Controller:
I purchased this keyboard for pitch input into Sibelius. It proved incapable of being used for piano parts-the same 3 note chord played 3 times came out 3 different ways no matter how carefully played and regardless of pitch or register. It's okay for single note input, but the lack of velocity evenness means that this is not a keyboard for use by serious musicians.
Comments about Alesis Q49 USB/MIDI Keyboard Controller:
I bought this controller (Alesis Q49) about a month ago (I sent it back two days after it arrived). I was looking for a compact controller to control VST programs, enter MIDI into a sequencer, and for entering notes into Sibelius. I also wanted it to fit on my desktop. Well, it fit.....But, you couldn't play a continuous tune on this thing to save your mother's life. The velocity is terrible! My middle 'B' would barely send a midi command when pressed very firmly. Next key over was blaring and much stronger than it should have been. Just terrible. Unusable really. I highly recommend looking for something else.
Comments about Alesis Q49 USB/MIDI Keyboard Controller:
This keyboard has, hands down, the worst velocity response I have ever witnessed. Some keys are hypersensitive, and others require serious force to even trigger. It is laughably bad.
