      Comments about Alesis Q88 88-Key USB/MIDI Controller:

I bought this to replace my twenty year old Korg X-3, which I was basically using as a midi controller anyways. That one had those plastic light keys.

This new one is full sized and keys are semi-wieghted. They are little stiff and they spring up, but I'm getting used to them.

I plugged it into my Mac laptop with USB and launched Garageband and it just simply worked.

I plugged in my 20 year old damper pedal and it just worked.

The keyboard has no power supply, the USB powers it. Cool!

It's NOT a free standing keyboard. It doesn't do anything without a computer and a softsynth or midi program.

Overall it feels like a nice, high-quality instrument. It's solid.

For less than two hundred b u c k s with free shipping, though, is a crazy price. When I thought I needed a new keyboard, I thought it was going to be a thousand plus purchase. If this thing breaks in a couple years, I'll throw it away and get a new one.

        Comments about Alesis Q88 88-Key USB/MIDI Controller:

I bought this because I needed a controller at my computer to play keys with - I don't seem to practice near enough anymore.
I didn't expect much. I got more then I expected but this is still not a serious road worthy, piano like keyboard but that is coming from the perspective of a 52 year old man that started playing piano at age 2.5 on a 12 foot steinway piano. Most people will love this to death.
It is well made but light. It plays well and fast but the keys bend a little under my hand when playing hard and fast. The keyboard is light weight and that is great and horrible. It moves easy when you want to move it and it moves easy when you don't want to move it. I am probably going to attach some supper duty velcro to it to hold it into place - problem solved.
I have only had this about 3 weeks so it is unlikely anything would break in that time. It seems to be well built and short of beating on it, will probably last longer then it needs to.
Buy this with confidence. It blows the M-Audio boards away and they have the worst customer support known in the industry. Alexis has always lasted and they have always been there for support.
As for easy, I plugged the USB plug into a USB 1 hold hub I have connected to my new mac and it worked immediately.

Works i use an iphone power adapter to power it via usb for live and it does the trick so you really don't need a power adapter. The only thing is lack of sliders for organ tone wheel control but for the price you get what you get. and it is good for the price

            Comments about Alesis Q88 88-Key USB/MIDI Controller:

I feel this keyboard is really a great bargain for the price. There are currently no other controllers on the market for its value that will give you the ability to play the full range of 88 keys but with the convenience of a usb/ midi out keyboard. Yes this is basically the same model as the M-Audio 88 key, but the Alesis version has been updated with a nice black finish.

Keyboard controller only. I had hoped for a basic piano sound within the unit. No sounds, just a keyboard. My existing synth modules do not have a good piano. Will have to purchase additional samples and player.

Very nice Midi controller. Wish it had a dual voice and split keyboard control too. Have a hard time finding a power supply for it. Purchased one from MF with pin negative and simply cut and reversed polarity. You would think Alesis would have a power supply for their equipment. Purchasing a second one so will have equal action for stage use. Wish there was a better fitting gig bag too. Oh well, can't have everything.

                Comments about Alesis Q88 88-Key USB/MIDI Controller:

I was surprised at the good quality that this low priced* keyboard seems to deliver. Yes, it's plastic, but it feels fairly solid. The keys are slightly mushy in feel, but do offer some resistance close enough to that of a real piano to help in practice. Certainly not the light feel of an organ or cheap controller. I've only owned it for a week or two, so I can't vouch for how or if it would hold up for live performances, especially a tour, but for practicing and home recording I think it's perfect for the price. That's my reasoning for giving it 5 stars.

*Apparently MF doesn't like actual prices listed. But it was less than 200 bills.

                        Comments about Alesis Q88 88-Key USB/MIDI Controller:

Keys are piano-style, semi-weighted rather than fully weighted. If you're used to fully weighted, it will feel a little strange at first.
Lightweight, therefore easy to move around.
USB port on the left side, so you'll need either to put computer on left side or get an extra long USB cable.
Easy to assign MIDI CCs to the slider and mod wheel.
Pitch bend default is a whole step. There's a specific command (in instructions) to make it whole octave. Two issues with that, though: (1) Instructions don't say how to put it back the way it was; and (2) I wish pitch bend could be adjusted to other intervals as well.
Velocity sensitivity is good; able to play the full range of velocities (1-127).
