If your primary need for a synth is for playing live, the X50 is hard to beat. I bought one recently while my Triton Rack was in the shop and was immediately impressed. It offers similar sounds and layout to the Triton/TR/M series synths in a lightweight package. I midi it to a Kurzweil stage piano I use as a stage controller, and the programs (patches) and combinations are easily accessible. The keyboard is very light-weight and it the plastic of the case and the keys make it obvious its a low-cost board, but it offers the sounds of much more expensive models.I am a long-time fan of Korg and I find the products to be very reliable. The light weight makes it a favorite board to haul to practice. This really is a performance board. It lacks a sequencer. It doesn't have the expansion slots or interface options of some of the higher-end models. BUT it chock full of terrific sounds it is easy to move through the sound menus on stage. Sound patches are searchable by category, and favorites can be saved easily for quick recall. It has a versatile arpeggiator function, lots of onboard effects and offers multiple options for velocity, after-touch and other key settings that help with sound control. If you need a studio board, you probably want to look at a synth with more features. And if you need a weighted keyboard, you may be put off by the spring-loaded keys. But for an affordable and playable synth, I'd put this on the top of my list.

I bought this at a store to try it out for a day. I was definitely impressed by the lightness (compared to the massive kurzweil I usually play). However, I ended returning it because it seemed cheap. And the programmed sounds were a bit cheesy, as others have noted. If you're looking for a keyboard to keep by your computer to use for recording, or if you want a high-priced toy...this may be great for you. I'm a keyboardist who likes to bang on the keys and mash them about while performing live. The keys on this model seemed fragile and cheaply-made, so I didn't think I'd be able to play as robustly as I'd like.Basically, if you need a strong keyboard to withstand your playing, I'm not sure if this will break on you. But if you don't plan on being rough, it could work. Plus, I was disappointed with the sounds...the quality of the sound was good, but the types of sounds were not very interesting, even when you try to shape them with the effects knobs.

Good sound but little weak

By Danny

About Me Professional Musician

Pros

  • The Sound And Price

Cons

  • Very Weak Apperance

Best Uses

  • House Of Worship

Comments about Korg X50 61-Key Synthesizer:

I have using the Keyboard in a Worship house. The sound is like the Korg TR (not the same like Triton), in fact is the same program and Combi Sounds of the TR but with a small display, this part is good and having in mind the Price is very recomendable for someone that need good sound to least Price, in my opinión is better that the MM6. However the keys are very weaks, and appear like a toy instead a Syntethizer. I´ll recomend it, but the next replace model of X50, Korg will need to care some aspects like the keys strong, I context i buyed several years ago a Yamaha PSR550 for mi child (a principiant keyboard with batteries and so on... like a toy too) and its keys was stronger compare than this X50.

Great for Whats ails ya..i guess.

By Carlos Padilla

Comments about Korg X50 61-Key Synthesizer:

I'm the drummer in a band but we got this and i'm the only one who really knows how to use synths really well. Go figure. But its a nifty littlr axe. it has a really cool design.I'm more of an anolog type of dude or mudlar but what can you do? You deffinitlt get lots of synth in one package. Not bad at all if ya ask me.
Some assignable knobs but its mostly accesable through the menue. Not a fan of that I love knobs(Stop snickering) that have a single fucktion.I love seinf all kinds of sliders and knobs.I'm oldschool like that.
For what you pay for it it hasto be good!..and it is.
I'm a cheepo.sue me (don't actually)

Korg X50 a true performance synth; fully programable

By MTPQS6

from USA

Comments about Korg X50 61-Key Synthesizer:

I have read several of the reviews, I had to said that all are pretty accurate. Something is missing with this Korg X50 you can create pretty heavy and complex layers of sounds, you can layer more than two sounds I have done 6, so far. You can in set effects to the sounds and also you can add two master effects, plus you have a master EQ that the frquency and gain can be adjusted or changes. That measn that you will be able to create really unique sounds, and let me tell you very simple to use one thing that helps is the software editor. But I learn it first with the editor but know I do it with the menus in the synth.

Second the splits, if you carry two or three synth and you are getting tire of the baggage well most likely this is the synt for you. I have been able to split this synth in four zones. That means that I have 4 different sounds divided accross the 61 keys. For me is very critical becasue I play base lines. Now I only carry my X50. Still you can add a sequencer and still have your zones.
Well it feels plastic and could feel fragile, but is not. I have beaten this baby and Korg has made ans exceletn job. Definitly if mine get borken I will get another one. I think for all the feature and versatibility of this synth nothing beat it, Roland is far behind with the Juno's the only thing that is missing for this keyboard will be and USB drive like the Juno's. But for me is not a problem, I got and external sequencer to run some midi tracks.
Is a good value. I love mine. Other synth I had Motif, Roland, Alesis, EMU.

Honestly, It is a good product. BUT

By Chakka

from California

Comments about Korg X50 61-Key Synthesizer:

There are some things you should be aware of before you purchase.First of all I will start off by saying the programed sounds range from novelty and a bit cheesy to actually quite developed and professional. The sound bank is very large and you definitely won't get bored. The software interface is extremely user friendly and with a few minutes of fiddling you should be quite comfortable with the X50's features. overall, great sound and plenty of features. Now for the other part. THIS KEYBOARD FEEL LIKE A TOY. Its extremely light, very light action on the keys (even the keys themselves are light). Because of this it just feels cheap. VERY cheap. BUT what puzzles me is its incredibly durable, at least from my experience. I take it on trips, around town, and really just beat the hell out of it but its completely fine. Honestly it still looks new. I cant figure it out for the life of me how this keyboard can feel so cheap but be SO durable. With all that said I would recommend this product but i hope this helps you get a better idea of what you are buying.

Can't go wrong with KORG... right?

By iammagill

from Oklahoma

Comments about Korg X50 61-Key Synthesizer:

I was raised on KORG Keyboards so when it came down to purchasing a new keyboard for a new band, it was not a difficult choice. The KORG x50 has got some great sounds on it. Unfortunately, the guys at KORG decided to cut corners where it counted. It has always been a very dependable synth but the keys are just too cheap and plastic for my taste. Also, I would like to see it with a better power cord rather than having an exterior AC cord which not only makes it look like a children's keyboard but also makes it less dependable as a whole. For me though, the good outweighs the bad. The sounds are great, it is reasonably priced it is lightweight, and it is very versatile. If the keys and power supply were a little higher quality then this would be an outstanding synth.

I recently purchased the KORG X50, and this board not only met but exceeded my expectations. The pros at KORG have done it again. Right out of the box and within thirty minutes of playing it I discovered the ease of use and control. This board has got all the class you come to expect from KORG. Mixing modern sounds with KORG classics like M1 Piano and 01/W Synths. The versatility is astounding. The real-time knobs allow you to mold your sound at a whim. A perfect fit to any home studio as well. If you are considering a KORG for your Live/Studio applications, You have to get this one. I assure you, you will not be disappointed. - Audio ~VAZ
