Comments about M-Audio ProKeys Sono 88 Digital Piano With USB Interface:
I bought the Sono 88 for use as a MIDI controller and master keyboard for sequences. I already have the M-Audio Axiom 67 and liked the semi-weighted key action but the semi-weighted keys on the Sono 88 are softer. The GM bank in the Sono 88 is only 40 voice polyphony and doesn't have very good samples compared to the stock sound card in my laptop. The MIDI output is not powered, and the owners manual is on disc only, no book to refer to. I have not tried out any of the audio features yet.
Comments about M-Audio ProKeys Sono 88 Digital Piano With USB Interface:
So basically this is my first real foray into MIDI controllers, and I think I made the right choice. The option to record live sound is definitely a plus. I haven't given this feature all that much of a workout, but it's worked fine for the little bit of guitar and vocals I've done.I was initially pretty worried about the feel, being a classically trained pianist. I can say now that although it takes a bit of getting used to, in the midst of playing it doesn't really feel all that synth-y.My three minor gripes: This keyboard does not play nice with Ubuntu studio for now, so I'm using Ableton on Windows. (Related note: if you're running 64 bit anything, download driver, don't use the CD). The main volume slider borders on feeling cheap. It's not a big deal, just annoying. Also, occasionally at first power up, the keyboard will reverse the polarity of the pedal input. So I have to flip the switch periodically on my pedal. Oh well. Still a GREAT first board. And, you know, it sounds great, so that's nice too. haha
Comments about M-Audio ProKeys Sono 88 Digital Piano With USB Interface:
I just received my M-Audio ProKeys Sono 88 and am half pleased with it. The sound out of an amp is pretty good, but the sensitivity is not very great. If you're looking for a keyboard with a classical acoustic piano feel, this is not the board for you. The controls are pretty easy, but the quality of input sound from an extra instrument [mine being a guitar] is poor. The mic input is pretty good, but not professional. I might be sending mine back, only because I'm looking for a protable and easy keyboard with a classical acoustic piano feel.
