Comments about Roland BK-7M Backing Module:
I have had several arrangers over the years and This is a great machine, the most advanced arranger I have ever had. It does every thing you expect to do, especially if you are a one man band. I also like the UBS port to record and play back wave files It is easy to use and I figured how to operate this Roland in less than an hour. On the other hand, another arranger I am currently using, the Rolad GW8, is incredibly confusing and difficult to operate. The Roland BK7m is kind of expensive. I think 500 would have been a fairer price. I do reccomend this arranger. Hook it up to a 76 keys keyboard and you have a good piano sound for soft gigs and a full arranger for a remarkable full sound. The 128 polyphony makes a difference even for piano/voice tandem. I would like a few more buttons for direct sound changes, but overall, if you are willing to spend the money, it is a great arranger.
Comments about Roland BK-7M Backing Module:
Overall I will get a lot of use from this Module
This little unit is really nice. Quite easy to use. Packed with a lot of nice features. The one drawback I found was no search feature if you have a substantial collection of music styles or smf's you have to scroll and scroll and scroll through them. Im spoiled with the Roland G70 and Discover 5 which can search by letter or number to bring up the smf or music style you are looking for. Other than that this unit is really nice
Seems very well made
With all the sounds and music styles it has in it. Its a good value
Comments about Roland BK-7M Backing Module:
I am a home hobbyist for 50 years. I say that with caution because I don't want to give the impression that this machine does not have some very modern beats and sounds. It does. I play by ear and with no formal training like to use the auto chord function along with rhythm and bass line.
My main keyboard is a Tyros and this Roland BK-7m adds a lot more variety to the backup I choose. The Bk-7m syncs well with the Tyros and I can add the intro and variations during live play.
If I were to fault one thing on this unit, it would be to the nature of it being a primarily European appointed style box. There are way two many polka and waltz styles that might fair well in Germany but I have not seen that many one man accordian players at Beer Gardens in the US. Roland may want to consider a US version of styles that had more Blues, Big Band, Country and Zydeco.
The variety of Latin, Dance and Rock is quite good. The other music styles have some outstanding sound but just not enough.
Since I am a limited skill player, this unit will offer me thousands of hours of pleasure and amaze the 10's of people that ever get to hear me play. If you already have a decent arranger keyboard and need some new life in your playing, this is a very worthwhile purchase. If you play small venues and want to keep the amount of equipment you have to carry to minimum, I would also tell you to test this baby out.
What I look for in an arranger unit is sound that does not sound overly repititious. You can blend some of the into and ending variations into the body of your music and cut them short just to add addition life to the sound.
This little arranger box is packed with useful tools for the hobbyist or 1 man/woman gigger. It provides over 400 styles of music, 4 variations to each as well as intros and endings. They are interesting enough not to sound to corny and certainly good enough to keep the interest of listeners.
You can easily record your songs and store them on to a flash drive. They save in .SMF so the can be moved to other devices. This is a midi device and would also be great as a live kareoke machine since you can hook it up to a tv. It allows plug in music so that you can use other jam tracks or artist recordings.
Sounds availabe are about 1000 and as Roland quality, they will not disappoint.
Moving thru the menus is via a dial wheel and easy to use after a very quick read thru in the manual.
I have only had the unit a week so I have spent more time working with the styles. There seems to be a lot of control over what the musician want to happen on this unit.
Everything seems well made. The unit is compact and would be a breeze to carry to a gig or party.
When you time your purchase to a sale at MF, its a great bargain. If you pick one up at regularly discounted prices, you will still see the value.
