OVERVIEW

Stunning SuperNATURAL sounds, travel-friendly design, fast-and-easy UI.

The Roland JUPITER-50 is out to change the way you play, react to, and feel a keyboard with its fusion of synthesis and acoustic instruments. By combining the supreme expression of the JUPITER-80 with the travel friendliness of the JUNO series, the new JUPITER-50 was made to bring SuperNATURAL sound and pro performance to every stage and studio.

SuperNATURAL Power
The JUPITER-50 houses over 1500 SuperNATURAL synthesizer tones found in the flagship JUPITER-80, plus all of its SuperNATURAL acoustic sounds (with Behavior Modeling) and many of its Live Sets. In fact, you can conveniently import the JUPITER-80's Live Sets into the JUPITER-50 via USB flash memory. To achieve the same supreme sound quality as the JUPITER-80, the JUPITER-50 employs the identical analog audio components as its big brother, including the high-resolution D/A converter.

Essential Sounds Onboard
The JUPITER-50 is packed with over 1,500 SuperNATURAL synthesizer tones, plus over 70 SuperNATURAL acoustic instruments, each with its own dedicated sound engine. Choose, stack and edit any combination of four tones to create custom Live Sets.

For live performers: There's a treasure trove of essential stage sounds packed into the JUPITER-50, anchored by our famous SuperNATURAL piano and electric pianos. Authentic organs are included as well, derived from our acclaimed VK organ sound engine, with a dedicated front-panel button that provides instant access to rotary effects.

For synth lovers: Choose from over 1,500 SuperNATURAL synthesizer tones and stack four of them to create a powerful Live Set. Classic synth sounds include analog favorites such as the Roland SH and JUPITER brass, plus digital sounds from the D-50, JD-800, and Fantom. Combine them with the SuperNATURAL acoustic instruments to create your own expressive, modern sounds.

For film composers: Expressive classical and ethnic instruments are at your immediate access for composition, from erhu, sitar, and flamenco guitar to timpani and oboe. Thanks to Behavior Modeling technology, the JUPITER-50 translates your keyboard performance into the unique musical nuances of each modeled instrument.

Easy Sound Creation
Complex sounds don't have to be complicated to program. The JUPITER-50 simplifies the sound-design process with its color-coded front panel, fast-access buttons and sliders, and Registration/Live Set architecture (128 Registrations, 2,560 Live Sets) logically categorized and instantly available.

Travel-Friendly
Tipping the scales at just 11kg (24lb., 5 oz.), the JUPITER-50 is one of the lightest professional instruments in its class, while still offering a top-quality 76-note weighted keyboard. With its powerhouse features, sounds, and travel-friendly design, the JUPITER-50 is a dream for gigging musicians on the go.

USB Functionality
The JUPITER-50's built-in audio recorder/player lets you capture musical sketches and full performances instantly to USB memory. By pre-loading a USB stick with WAV, AIFF, and/or MP3 files, you can use them as live backing tracks onstage and control them from the JUPITER-50. You can even simultaneously record your performances on the keyboard along with audio file playback from USB.

High-Performance Effects
The JUPITER-50 boasts an advanced effects engine that takes your sounds into another dimension. There are five types of pro-grade reverb algorithms onboard, plus dozens of other special effects (MFX). And we're only scratching the surface, as many other expressive performance tools are built into this powerful synth. You can select from five MFX structures that let you place up to four effects in parallel and/or serial paths; using these structures, you can take full advantage of the JUPITER-50's powerful collection of effects to create intense electro-synth sounds, intricate ambient synth textures, and beyond.

Comments about Roland Jupiter-50 Performance Synthesizer:

I've been playing a long time, harking back to the Juno-60 days. I've played just about everything in between then and now, from several companies. This is hands down, the best board I ever bought.

Forget about the little iPad applet. Just go straight into the "Pro Edit" screen, which lists all parameters and values like a spread sheet. Highlight one and tweak or create from scratch.

It is true that the Acoustic sounds are not that editable, however, they do have a few variant parameters, specific to each sound. This is to retain the accuracy of the true acoustic sound.

It is lightweight and does not cause any instability in my Ultimate Apex at all.

Would've been nice to have a MIDI Thru, but I can live without that. In the same thought, after-touch would be a nice option as well, but honestly, since I model older synths with it, I do not use after-touch that often, and quite frequently turn off velocity as well. Getting a good gat analog sound is made a lot easier in the "Pro Edit" screen, where there is a parameter called "Analog Feel" which introduces warmth and pitch drift. Combine that with detuned layers and you've got a true analog feel.

DO NOT listen to YouTube demos and expect to get an accurate sound. These videos are made with lossy MP3's in the video project, which are further compressed by YouTube. Seriously, go to a music store and try one. Delve right in to the Synth engine (not the Acoustic one) and try it out.

Comments about Roland Jupiter-50 Performance Synthesizer:

Very disappointed in sound quality; However, the guitar patches are very good. There is only one choir patch (no Dooos or Ahhhhhs) and the others don't even come close to voice patches. The piano patches lack clarity as well as the EP patches and sound over processed. The flute and alto sax patch is a joke and there is no fiddle or banjo patch. If you hear this keyboard alone or have nothing else to compare it to, you will love it. If you compare it to others or are a professional and know the quality of sound you are looking for, you will not be happy. The sound quality is very thin and many sound over processed, you can tell they are not sampled sounds. Better sounds are found on cheaper models of Roland keys and the cheap Yamaha and Casio non-professional boards. I was so excited to get this board and after 2 hours was extremely disappointed. There was no way to add this to my rig because the quality just isn't up to my other keyboards. I feel this board is way overpriced for the way it sounds. Defiantly try it before you buy it to make sure it fits your needs.

Comments about Roland Jupiter-50 Performance Synthesizer:

This is a good synth for the money when you compare it to a Access Virus or Korg Kingkorg. The upside is the excellent Supernatural piano and string sounds as well as the wide selection of synth sounds. While most of this is perfect, the downside to this synth is only one part (the upper part) can be affected by the cutoff and resonance knobs, not the solo or percussion parts.
Also, navigating within the board can be a bit tricky but becomes easier with experience. Overall, this is a good synth to add to your collection.

Comments about Roland Jupiter-50 Performance Synthesizer:

I bought the Roland Jupiter 50 to eliminate the need to take 2 keyboards to every gig. This keyboard has all the sounds and capabilities that I require for gigging.

Some reviewers are negative towards this keyboard because it is not the true Jupiter series synth they remember or don't from the 80s, however this really is a solid gigging keyboard with realistic sounds and programming flexibility. Programming is easy, it's light weight and portable.

The only things I wish it had were real time control for drawbars and the ability to assign individual sounds (such as organ) to a separate output. This would allow for simpler use of an external rotary speaker simulator which you may desire if you are picky about your Organ/Leslie sound.
