A powerful standalone instrument, master controller, or MIDI slave.
Developed simultaneously with the Roland flagship RD-700SX, the Roland RD-300SX Digital Piano provides the same stunning 88-note multisampled piano, plus 128-voice polyphonic performance, and expanded soundsets. Though a heavyweight in features, physically the RD-300SX is an especially light 88-note piano and transports easily. It has Compact Progressive Hammer Action, true 88-note piano samples from Fantom-X, USB MIDI interface, simple navigation, and premium quality effects.
With Roland's most powerful sound engine at its core, the RD-300SX delivers heavyweight specs in a lightweight body. Sharing much in common with its high-end sibling, the RD-700SX, the RD-300SX offers 128-voice polyphony, 88-note individually sampled grand piano waveforms, and hundreds of additional sounds and rhythms from jazz to techno.
The RD-300SX features Roland's Compact Progressive Hammer-Action keyboard, which simulates a real grand piano by providing a heavier touch in the lower octaves that gets increasingly lighter in the upper range. This keyboard has many of the same design elements as Roland's acclaimed Progressive Hammer-Action Keyboard, but its keyboard-action mechanism is much more compact and lightweight.
Players will appreciate the RD-300SX's ease of operation and convenient hands-on controls. Dedicated buttons and knobs are provided for instant access to the piano sound, EQ settings, and dual/split keyboard setups. No searching through menus or submenus to find the most common functions; everything you need is within quick reach. Thanks to the handy Setup mode, you can quickly store and recall parameter changes with the touch of a button. A pitch bend/modulation lever has been added for expressive control. Operation is clean and streamlined so you can focus on playing, not programming.
For subtle sweetening or complete transformations, the RD-300SX offers a wide lineup of 78 multi-effect types to choose from, plus independent effects such as reverb, 2-band digital EQ, and Sound Control. Add sparkle to your grand piano sound, deep-fry an electric piano, add depth and spatial movement to strings--the choices are vast.
It has an impressive, heavy-duty body (with sophisticated black brushed metal finish) while the RD-300SX is actually one of the lightest 88-note pianos. At less than 35 pounds (15.5kg), it's ultra easy to transport, yet built tough enough for the rigors of the road.
Connect the RD-300SX to computers via its USB port for one-cable MIDI communication. Standard MIDI in/out ports connectors are provided as well. Master, slave, or solo--the RD-300SX can be played as a standalone instrument, driven from other MIDI gear, or used as the master controller for an entire MIDI setup.
Order it and work musical miracles.

Awesome piano sounds, need eq the highs a little in order to get a good good sound, but sounds great. Useless for just about everything else, ep's are horrible, useless for recording. Pads are actually decent, organ sound ok, leslie is very cheap sounding too. again, you buy this for the piano sound and the action (sort of).Anyways, after owning for 2 weeks, my F2 key broke.. as in, key is physically ok, but no sound comes out. nothing.. Will have to send to ROland authorized dealer for repairs, will take 3 WEEKS for repair.. 3 WEEKS!!!! without a keyboard.. I would buy it again, because I got it for so cheap. Would not pay a dime more for it though.
For me; this instrument truly is the best!! I have no complaints!! I done gigs with orchestras behind me and I didn't need a 9 footer to the job. Roland you need to expand on this on and bring back the phunk...
I bought this keyboard over a year ago for three reasons. 1) It's lightweight. I can carry it if needed, but I use a rolling gig bag, and it's great. 2)The weighted keys are very close to a good piano's feel. 3)Its very simple to set up...geared for playing. It's a great keyboard.
This thing is GREAT! I have owned mine for over a year now, and I have had NO complaints or problems with it! The samples are GREAT, with the exception of the brass, and a few of the electric piano samples, which I rarely ever use, so that is no real big deal. I also use the USB function, to control my MIDI samples on some of my composition software. The USB feature is pretty helpful, but it ONLY sends MIDI to an external source, NOT AUDIO, so dont be confused! I also use this keyboard in jazz, rock, and big-bands. It feels, plays, and sounds like a real, top-notch piano! Completely worth it!
Precisely replicating an acoustic piano is very difficult, a keyboard with higher polyphony (like the Roland RD-300SX) will duplicate a piano sound more accurately, especially the notes that ring when the hold pedal is depressed. I have been using this keyboard for approx.6 mos. The piano sound is more than excellent and this keyboard gives you the most polyphony for the dollar. The weighted keys feel great!! Many other sounds are very good however I will use this primarily as a piano...The programmable functions could be laid out in an easier fashion, but don't let that stop your purchase...
Very nice keyboard,touch excelent
An exelent stage piano due to it's light weight and slim body. A great hammer action reasponce and the 128-voice polyphonic dosen't hurt much ether. I highly recommend this piano to anyone who travels a lot, though the black brush finish marks easily.
