OVERVIEW

Combines Motif XS sounds, USB Audio/MIDI connectivity and advanced DAW/VST controller features at a groundbreaking level of affordability.

Over 1000 Sounds from the MOTIF Series
The Yamaha MX61 61-Key Synthesizer contains more than 1000 Voices derived from the world-famous Yamaha MOTIF XS series. From realistic acoustic sounds like piano, electric piano, strings and drums to complex 8-element synth sounds, the MX61 has all of your favorite MOTIF XS Voices right at your fingertips. The MX61 even has a streamlined interface for instant hands-on selection of all those great Voices. The newly designed category selection makes it easier than ever to find the Voice you need. You can even edit and store your own sounds right onboard.

VCM Effects
The MX61 synthesizer comes equipped with VCM effects, which simulate vintage effectors at the circuit level. The sounds of the '70s are brought back to life through simulations of hard-to-find vintage equalizer, flanger, phaser and wah effects introduced by the keyboard legends of the era.

Easy Split /Layer Performance Mode for Instant Inspiration
Performance Mode on the MOTIFs has always been the place to find instant inspiration and the MX is no different. You can easily combine two Voices to play on the keyboard using the dedicated Split and Layer buttons each with their own intelligent arpeggiator and a dedicated Part for a drum track to create evocative Performances that feel like a whole band is playing. The 128 Performances on the MX61 are all user editable, but come programmed with the latest club friendly grooves.

16-Part Multi Timbral and 128-note Polyphony
Each Performance contains not only the three sounds described above, but all the settings for a complete 16-Part Multi setting for play. You can switch between any of the 16 Parts without the sound cutting off. With 128 notes of polyphony there are plenty of notes to play even the densest sequences from your DAW. These features make the MX61 the perfect tone generator solution for live performance and live playback of DAW MIDI tracks.

Bi-directional USB Audio/MID Interfacing
But the MX61 doesn't just control software DAWs and VSTs. Just connect a USB cable to your computer and you can monitor all the sounds from your computer via the headphone output of the MX61 or listen to your DAW tracks by connecting the MX to external studio monitors or PA gear. The audio converters on the MX61 are made for professional music applications so everything on your computer, even games, will sound better when using the MX61 as the output. The MX61 interface is bi-directional so you can record the internal sounds of the MX61 directly to your computer, without ever going to the analog domain, for the highest possible quality.

Extensive Hands-On Controls for VSTs and DAWs
The MX61 also features solid knobs and durable buttons for controlling internal sounds, DAW parameters and VST instruments. The deceptively simple interface is combined with a remote template editor on your computer so any VST you own or any new VSTs you buy can be easily set up to be controlled by the MX. There are advanced integration templates for use with a variety of DAWs. When used with Cubase, there is even an AI knob so any parameter can be controlled by the large rotary encoder just by mousing over it. It has never been quicker to take full control of Cubase.

A Complete Suite of Music Production Software Included
The MX Series is the only hardware synth in its price range to come with a complete suite of music production software tools. The included Steinberg Cubase AI features 48 audio tracks and 64 MIDI tracks, notation, built-in VST effects, so with just the MX and AI you can do complete productions. But we didn't stop there; it comes bundled with Steinberg Prologue and the Yamaha YC-3B organ emulator so you have some compelling VSTs to get started. Plus there are Remote Template editors for setting up controls of VSTs. Finally, Yamaha has worked with some third party developers to ensure that there will be fully functional cross platform editors available at release.

Complete Analog and Digital Connectivity
In addition to the USB audio/MIDI port, the MX61 has a USB to Device port so you can connect USB devices for storing MX data to external memory and even playing back wave files directly from a USB stick. If you want to add a tablet or an MP3 player to your system just connect to the AUX input using a mini stereo cable and you are ready to go.

A Lightweight Design with a Quality Yamaha Keyboard
While almost all other keyboard controllers use inexpensive OEM keyboards, the MX61 features an expertly crafted keyboard that only Yamaha -- the world's largest keyboard manufacturer -- could produce. Weighing only 3.8kg (MX49) or 4.8kg (MX61), either synthesizer can be carried easily with one hand. MX synthesizers have a compact design so they are easy to carry to the gig and also fit easily into today's compact home music production studios.

This is the best sounding synthesizer for the money, hands down! The sounds are very realistic, the touch sensitivity is smooth despite the unweighted keys. The onboard effects, such as chorus and reverb, sound as good or better than any of the effects processors that I own. I would highly recommend this keyboard.

For the money, I would expect the piano sounds to be more realistic. The organs are fantastic, however, the brass and synths seem somewhat
"lacking". I would recommend for a beginner but not for a heavy touring keyboardist ! Spend a couple hundred more for a better keyboard with truer piano sounds. I'm sending mine back. It should sound better for what I paid for it. Use your own judgement !

Comments about Yamaha MX61 61 Key Music Synthesizer:

This is a very portable keyboard - and worthwwhile keyboards are very rarely portable. Has so many sounds - awesome for amateur recording/beatmaking/instrumental. Not realistic if you want to feel like you are playing a piano, but it is great if you don't have access to a piano and want seriously 1000 sounds. Requires external speakers or headphones.

Comments about Yamaha MX61 61 Key Music Synthesizer:

I purchased this keyboard for rehearsals and for situations where my normal rig would be too large due to space and logistical constraints and it is perfect for that purpose. I also purchased the soft case with backpack type shoulder straps so I have the kybd on my back, stand in one hand and I rolled my amp with the other hand. Did a gig last night and it worked perfectly, easy in and easy out. Sounds are adequate and the only knock against it is the action isn't very good.

Great choices of patches and quality of sounds. Doesn't have weighted keys which is great if you want something lightweight (so easy to transport, store), but may not cut it for you if you want something resembling an acoustic piano-like action.

This is like Motif's Little brother; and it has over 1000 of the same voices. The front panel makes every control right at your fingertips.

I intend to use it in my Home Studio DAW; it is wonderful priced instrument for a studio on a budget to get those professional sounds.

A wonderful product. Has an expected learning curve but brief. My 8 year old has become quite accomplished in using most features within 1 month. No speakers is not so bad.... I purchased a set of M-Audio's for less than a Benjamin and they sound fine for home/garage use. I am very pleased and glad we made this purchase.

Comments about Yamaha MX61 61 Key Music Synthesizer:

I have been hauling a Kurzweil PC3X around which weighs a ton and I was looking for something with quality sounds that didnt break your back- or your bank. The MX61 sounds great. The pianos, guitars are excellent. Particularly the acoustic guitars. And it has some unique sound effects. On the drum patches be sure to check a couple octaves up and down by using the octave shift buttons as other sounds are hidden beyond the base 61 key range. I prefer the organ sounds on the Kurzweil but the organ selection on the MX61 will easily be sufficient in a live band club setting. The string and pads are nice and full for layering. My only complaint is the keyboard itself really does feel chincy. I midi'd it through the Kurzweil and playing with a full weighted keyboard does make a difference in the way the sounds respond. Much more consistent on the weighed keyboard. I find the flat and sharp keys on thr MX dont have the volume output that the white keys do, but it is consistent playing the sounds via the Kurzweil. Some of the hard rock guitar block chord sounds really require you to hammer on the MX keys to get the full chord sound consistently. To it's credit though, on many patches the MX does have a wide range of sound variation within the same patch based on how hard you press the keys. Overall, it was a great choice for excellent sounds and true portability. It even has a handle built into the back of it. It will also be great to use with my computer sequencing program played through the Kurweil without having to buy a full Motif for thousands more.
