A collaborative piece of art on canvas by one of the world's best drummers.
As for the imagery featured within the piece, Pasillas combined sketches of birds and the majestic fish he had drawn for the Abstract + Rhythm Landscapes collection. Behind the hand-drawn elements is a sophisticated and highly detailed background created from a fusion of rhythm captured through light and Jose's notorious pattern-work.
Jose Pasillas II
Jose Pasillas is a father, a son, a brother, a lover, a musician, and a visual artist. He was raised in Calabasas, California, where he co-founded the band Incubus. As a child, Jose played air drums. Whenever he heard Prince's "Take Me With You," he threw his arms around, replicating the rhythm of the song. When he turned fifteen, he got his first drum kit, "a crappy kit with a kitchen chair as a drum throne." His path as a musician was solidified when former Guns n' Roses drummer Stephen Adler, who was their neighbor, stumbled into the Pasillas' home uninvited while they were having Sunday breakfast. Adler asked Jose where his kit was, sat down on that kitchen chair and played "Mr. Brownstone." The next day, Adler showed up with a proper throne for Jose. Not only is Jose now a talented musician, he is also a loving father. His passion lies with the arts, but his love lies with his family. Jose's Mexican heritage and heart has always been important to him and makes up much of who he is as an individual. These influence his art as a musician and fine artist, pouring his soul into visual and rhythmic tales of his affair with creativity.
