OVERVIEW

8-track recorder, 24-track playback, audio interface, controller, sampler, and drum machine in one.

Zoom takes its revolutionary R16 and turbocharges it with a sampler and drum machine, 8 additional recording tracks and 6 channels of phantom-power on the all-new R24. The R24 combines 4 production tools into one incredibly versatile device. In addition to 24-track playback and 8-track simultaneous recording using SD memory cards, the R24 is a digital multitrack recorder, an audio interface, a control surface and a pad sampler.

The R24's new sampler function consists of 24 built-in voices that can be triggered using 8 pads and 3 bank keys to assign sounds to each track and create loops. Also, you can use the unit's drum machine and its 400 rhythm patterns to create original backing beats, or simply output a metronome for tempo control. More than ever before, you have all the tools necessary to create studio-quality recordings anywhere.

For recording, the R24 comes with a 2GB SD card. It supports up to 32GB SDHC cards for a maximum of 100 track hours. The flexibility of SD recording not only makes the R24 lighter and more portable, it also ensures increased reliability with no concern for a crashing hard drive. Back up your project on a USB memory stick. Or dedicate an SD card to each recording session.

Take your R24 into your studio and record additional tracks using its USB audio interface. Then when you're ready to mix, use the R24's control surface capabilities to manage each function of your favorite DAW software.

Incorporate any of the 100+ built-in studio effects to enhance your recording and use the pro-quality mastering effects to complete that studio sound. You can even connect 2 R24s via USB for synchronized operation and 16 tracks of simultaneous recording.

With the new Zoom R24, versatility, control and comprehensive features come together in a single device that puts everything you need for professional music production right at your fingertips.

I had been using an MRS-1044 CD model for the past 10 years. I avoid mixing on computer like the plaque, so zoom's stand-alone recorders with the built-in drum programs are just what I need. I recently upgraded to the R-8 and loved the greatly improved sound of the drum loops that came with it, but found the limitation of 8 tracks made it difficult to make full use of the features without bouncing lots of tracks. So I traded it in for the R24, and having resolved the software issue discussed above, I am looking forward to another decade of fun recording songs on this amazing machine.
The drum loops and hundreds of editable effects are fantastic. I don't use the built-in mics much, but they work better than you might expect. And I have no desire to hook the unit up to a computer for mixing, but many others will enjoy that feature. I also don't need to record more than one track at a time, but many others will make good use of that feature.
A serious bug in the R24 (system 1.1) surfaced when I tried to use the punch-in feature to overdub part of a track. After recording drums and a guitar track, the R24 would no longer retain additional parts that I tried to add on a third (bass) track. The unit would not save the added part, and instead a loud "white noise" was heard. I found a forum on the web that led me to a downloadable software upgrade on the zoom website. Thankfully, after downloading and installing the 1.12 software upgrade, the problem seems to be fixed, and I can now punch in parts with no further problems. Needless to say, I was greatly relieved to be able to get the unit to work as it should.

Had to send it out to samson for repair out of pocket. Now for a second time it is doing the same thing again. previous repair was very slow. Would not buy again poor quality construction. Comments about Zoom R24 Multitrack Recorder/Interface/Controller/Sampler:

I bought this product in 2012 and this is my first all-digital multi-track recorder. After years of doing analog recording with a cassette-based unit, I switched to the Zoom for its multi-function capabilities. I used this to record three of my CD's and the sound quality is better than expected. I used a 32GB card and I still have over half of storage left on it. I also used this for live recording as well. It never failed. Also, I transported this unit to record vocals at a facility since one of my vocalists couldn't make it. I connected a studio microphone, then mastered it. The results were great. I wanted to use an all-in-one unit rather than having to deal with the complications of computer-based recording. Although I wish it had MIDI (that's not really an issue at all), the USB makes up for it. In all I would highly recommend this to all that is getting into digital recording. I love this!

Comments about Zoom R24 Multitrack Recorder/Interface/Controller/Sampler:

When I decided to begin recording, I was using a little Behringer mixer with a Zoom H2 and, after a couple dozen songs, I realized how limiting that arrangement was. I decided to spring for the R24. I was completely lost with this thing. Then I discovered something on YouTube. A kind soul put together six or so hours of a comprehensive tutorial on how to use it, including all of the features. What a Godsend! Check it out by searching YouTube for "Zoom R24 Part 1 - Overview" - you'll find all the other videos as well all the way through part 6(c). Instead of using Cubase, I decided to install Reaper due to a lot of the glowing reviews on that software. Getting the two to interface was a bit of a challenge (took twelve hours of research and experimentation) but, once I had the R24 and Reaper talking with each other, I was in heaven. The combination of the two is phenomenal. As I continue to explore the capability of the pair, I get better and better results.

Comments about Zoom R24 Multitrack Recorder/Interface/Controller/Sampler:

After owning the Zoom HD16CD hoping to step up, this was a BIG step back! The Zoom R24 is really geared towards an interface. Period. If you're looking to record on this unit you're better off analog as there are no editing features to speak of on the unit itself. If you want to move something...forget it. If you want to cut paste a section...forget it. Read all the features (or lack of features) before you buy. Returned the R24 after two days.

awesome product, ive used it for recording a full band live aswell as acoustic and it even works as a p.a if used with powered speakers,it is easy to use ,only thing id complain about if I had to is its plastic construction, while seemingly strong could get damaged easy,id prefer all this technology housed into a metal casing

Comments about Zoom R24 Multitrack Recorder/Interface/Controller/Sampler:

1st unit I was sent didn't work. It was broken and wouldn't navigate through the menus. I got sent a replacement unit, but it was badly, badly scratched and had gunky gunge on it - so I sent it, too, back (as I had paid for a 'new' one). Ended up buying it from a competitor and it's a great little unit. Musician's Friend need to use a LOT more bubblewrap and packing material. Pack like Sweetwater do: OVER-pack.

Tired of the whole hassle of computer recording? Zoom R-24 could be for you. Was/is for me. Best 24 -track sound capture/reproduction device for the money. Use it with outboard mics, pre-amps, and compression (e.g., ART products) for best results. Would also get a headphone amp for stronger monitoring ability while recording. Cool mastering algorithms, to boot. Get one. Have fun.
