Edirol Introduces the R-09HR WAV/MP3 Recorder Essentially a two-track studio you can hold in your hand, the R-09HR WAV/MP3 Recorder offers 24-bit/96kHz resolution and a built-in stereo condenser mic that ensures precise audio reproduction of live music, rehearsals, and moments of musical inspiration. Its large OLED display and wireless remote that gives you extensive control over features such as Split mode, Speed, and Reverb make it a very handy device for field recording. Broadcasters, podcasters, and journalists will appreciate its built-in limiter/auto gain control, level meters, peak indicators, and non-slip rubber-coated body. The R-9HR also lets you transfer files via USB and master with the included Cakewalk Creator software for Windows Vista. The Edirol R-09HR WAV/MP3 Recorder is now in stock and ready to ship. New 710 Twin-Finity Mic Pre and D.I. From Universal AudioThe 710 Twin-Finity is a radically new UA preamp which uniquely combines both the classic retro warmth of UA tube design and the transient bite of solid state in a 2U, half-rack, all-metal chassis. The 710 was created specifically to add the tonal versatility and sonic inspiration missing from generic audio interface preamps. The key to its sonic flexibility lies in its innovative circuit design, featuring a solid state transimpedance input amp simultaneously driving separate, phase-aligned tube and solid-state gain stages, that are then summed to a single output. The mix between the 310 volt single-ended class-A triode tube stage and solid state transimpedance stage is controlled via the Blend knob. Blending is continually variable between 100% tube and 100% solid state offering a practically infinite range of unique preamp tones and the ability to easily dial in your own signature sound. Like all the other UA preamp designs, the 710 features dual gain-stage controls (Gain/Level) which can radically vary the amount of coloration and distortion by allowing you to crank up the input gain like a guitar amp. The VU meter has a unique Drive mode that shows you how hard you are driving the input stage. Versatility makes the 710 the perfect preamp partner for any mic collection. Plus, the discrete JFET DI input circuit can also easily handle any electric instrument. Guitar and bass players will especially appreciate the 710’s ability to bring out the best of both active and passive pickups. The 710 Twin-Finity is designed and built at UA headquarters in California, and includes a 19" rack-kit for mounting one or two units. The United Audio 710 Twin-Finity Mic Pre and D.I. is expected to ship in July. Universal Audio Launches the Hot-Rodded 1176AE Limiting AmplifierIn celebration of both UA’s rebirth 10 years ago as well as the 40th anniversary of the renowned 1176 Limiter, UA is producing just 500 of the AE model—a hot-rodded version of the original. Aside from new cosmetics, The 1176AE borrows the sonically unique program-dependent characteristics from the original, Revision A "Bluestripe," while retaining the Class-A low-noise "LN" circuit and custom transformers of the most popular 1176— Revision E. Giving the product another sonic distinction, the ratio selections hearken back to the 1176’s predecessor, the UA 176 Limiting Amplifier. The 1176AE offers a gentler ratio array of 2:1, 4:1, and 8:1—perfect for compression duties—but also offers 20:1 at the top, for full limiting applications. This ratio modification also allows a unique range of multi-button ratio combinations, pushing the AE version beyond the famous "all-button" mode of the standard unit. Lastly, the 1176AE offers something new for bass-heavy tracks or "over-the-top" effects. A super-slow attack setting of 10ms cleverly repurposed from the redundant Off/Bypass position from the 1176’s Attack control gives you an option not achievable with the original— allowing transients to pass more freely—again furthering the versatility of the 1176AE beyond its predecessors. The 1176AE Limiting Amplifier is expected to ship in June. Empirical Labs Introduces The Lil FrEQIn designing the Lil FrEQ, Empirical Labs set out to offer engineers a high-performance, one-box solution to shaping and controlling frequencies. EQ sections include: High Pass section is a sharp filter that cuts all content below one of eight pre-selected frequencies. Empirical calls it a "colored" filter since it is very steep and has a special shape that prevents thinning out frequencies just above the cutoff frequency. The corner frequency is indicated by LEDs that glow softly when the section is bypassed, and brightly when the section is engaged. As with all the EQ sections in the Lil FrEQ, there is a dedicated bypass switch. High and Low Shelving – These are very similar to standard "Tone Controls", but extremely high performance, providing exceptionally smooth boost and cut on the bass and treble frequencies. Parametric EQ Sections – There are four sections of fully parametric EQ operating below .0007% THD at extremely high audio levels. Dynamic EQ Section – The DS section combines filters with a compressor-like circuit that can help contain and control excessive high frequency content such as sibilants, especially in the absence of other lower frequency content. There are two modes of operation, with threshold control as well as a frequency select control. There are four LEDs that indicate the amount of gain reduction: -1dB, -4dB, -8dB, -12dB. Other features include:

The M 80 has excellent feedback rejection and on vocals provides a highly nuanced signal while keeping sibilance and handling noise in check. The M 80 delivers tight, punchy response when used with drums while guitars bloom with richness and clarity. Horns sit easily in the mix and when used with percussion instruments, the M 80 cuts easily. The M 80 is shipping now.
