Ocarinas

There are old musical instruments, and then there are ancient musical instruments. A perfect example of an ancient music maker is the ocarina: a member of the "vessel flute" family, this wind instrument is over 12,000 years old. It works by blowing air through the wind-way which then hits a fipple and creates vibrations; players then control the pitch by covering and uncovering holes on the instrument. Today, ocarinas are very popular in East Asian countries, but the instrument has also gained recognition in other parts of the world - like Italy, for example. In fact, the ocarina saw a dramatic boost in sales back in 1998, mainly due to its role in the Nintendo 64 game "The Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time".

If you're curious at all about playing the ocarina, you're in luck: respected musical instrument manufacturers like Grover Trophy specialize in ocarinas that are very affordable, and that's exactly what you'll find in this section. An alto instrument in the key of C, the Grover-Trophy C Alto Ocarina has been described as "the fun-to-play plastic version of the sweet potato". This ocarina is a perfect musical instrument to have in elementary school music classrooms, but adults will be sure to get a kick out of it as well. Give the Grover-Trophy C Alto Ocarina a chance and see for yourself why it continues to be a top seller.

Considering how easy to play and generously priced the ocarina is, there's no reason why anyone with even a slight interest in playing a musical instrument shouldn't pick one up. Who knows, you might even find yourself incorporating the ocarina into your own musical compositions. Or, maybe you're just a big Zelda fan - either way, you've definitely come to the right place for a new ocarina!
