I got this because it can handle recording guitar amps as well as vocals. It does a pretty good job at both, especially for the money. I have used an AKG414 in the past in professional studio work, and no, the 220 isn't going to give you that kind of $1000 quality, with real even frequency response and crispness. I like the Perception 220, though, because it does have a fairly flat and somewhat warm frequency response. There's a hint of grainy texture in it, though, if you listen closely, and something a little dull compared to say, the 414. There's not a lot of "air" in the high-end, but there's enough. I have used high-quality Cardas cable with this and found these issues. Yet I think it was a great all-around compromise mic, and I chose it over the 120 series because of the larger diaphragm. I would recommend this if you're on a budget and looking for a warm-sounding, all-around workhorse mic.

Great Voice Over And Radio Mic

By Leafpile Radio

from Seattle WA

Comments about AKG Perception 220 Condenser Microphone:

Paired up with an Aphex Preamp/Processor. This is by far one of the best mics next to my Neumann U87 Condenser I have used. I do alot of voice over and productions works. And this mic has surpassed alot. It packs a big punch and bright vocals. At times people ask if this is my Neumann U87. I definitly recommend this mic for any application you will be using. But do by a processor of course.

Comments about AKG Perception 220 Condenser Microphone:

This is a great microphone for beginners. It's an awesome starting mic, once you learn how to efficiently use your studio software, protools etc. and use the EQ's properly, you can make this microphone sound like gold. You have to have a half way decent interface though.

Comments about AKG Perception 220 Condenser Microphone:

Absolutely love this mic. I have used it ever since I started recording. I prefer to use this mic over every other mic in the price range of 0 to 500. I mostly use on rock vocals and have used as a mono drum overhead. Getting a second one so I can have stereo overheads. I recommend it to anyone!

Comments about AKG Perception 220 Condenser Microphone:

when i purchase microphones i experiment like crazy so i can remember what wont work and what will.. i picked this up for a work horse for the "less talented" .. and have found my self using it much more than i expected..for tenor sax "bright bite a bit" to upper part of a Leslie "clean with little bite when draw bars are out" really clean, over heads for drums, i can say its bang for your buck.. i use this often for live recording for instruments listed.. USE THE PAD..

Comments about AKG Perception 220 Condenser Microphone:

Bought this when I expended to begin recording for other artists, and I couldn't be more pleased! I've used this straight as well as with TC Helicon's "Correct" and "Create" pedals, and this little mic has provided the clearest, most crisp vocals I've ever experienced in this price range. HIGHLY recommended!

Not bad for a first condenser

    By Discipulus96

    from Portland, OR

Comments about AKG Perception 220 Condenser Microphone:

This microphone is my first condenser mic. I primarily use it for recording vocals and acoustic guitar. I was impressed by it's detail and sensitivity (as most people are when first using a condenser mic). I was disappointed though when I listened to what I had recorded, and found that I had to give a big boost to the 3-5khz range to prevent it from sounding dull and muffled. The mic has great sound, but simply doesn't pick up much in the mid-high end range.Maybe it's just a defect in my mic? Either way, i'm returning it and getting a new one, or a different mic altogether.

    Great mic all around

    By Kyle Haubrich

    from Ames Iowa

Comments about AKG Perception 220 Condenser Microphone:

I have owned the Perception 200 for two years. This mic is exceptional. I use mainly use it for recording drums and as a room mic. It picks the drums up nicely and adds warmth to the recordings as it picks up the rest of the band ? electric guitar/bass amp(s) and vocals through the PA. Using the perception in this way makes for a neat vintage sound. If you want to hear what it sounds like check out my myspace page. Look for the the sloe kids.I also use this mic for recording vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar cabinets, organ, as well as noises around the house for sampling. It excels in all of these fields ? very warm and clear. It is capable of picking up very quiet sounds from long distances if gain is rather hot. I am very happy with this mic and if it were lost or stolen I would defiantly buy this item again. Every home studio on a budget should have one.

    Wonderful

Comments about AKG Perception 220 Condenser Microphone:

This mic sounds ridiculously crisp and clear when recording acoustic guitar. It also worked great on an amp, or even a bass amp due to the -20db switch. The bass roll off switch is a nice feature too. For the price, this mic sounds every bit as good as what I would expect from a Blue Mic. It has nice features, and the sound on acoustic comes threw so clean and forward in the mix. Definitely worth it for the price. I do still prefer my baby bottle as far as vocals are concerned.
