I really try to take care of my cables, but lately I've been spending a fortune replacing them. I've thought about going to a wireless system, but I didn't want to settle for some cheap, crappy Nady, and I didn't want to spend a lot for a good one. I'm just a gigging bar musician, not a rock star. But when I saw that the WMS 40 Mini was manufactured by AKG, I took notice. I've owned many AKG products over the years and I figured they wouldn't put their name on something that was below their standards. I was right. This thing is fantastic! I can't believe you can get a UHF system at this price. I'm very picky about my sound, and you do have to spend a little time adjusting the input sensitivity and the output volume to get it just right, but then it's set and it sounds great. The transmitter clips onto my back pocket and the receiver sits on top of my Marshall half stack. I do run a cable from the receiver out to my Boss ME-50 multi-effects unit and a cable back to my amp, but I'm not tethered anymore. It's nice to be able to walk around the stage. Great sound, no dropouts, and a nice price. Get one before they realize their error and raise the price.

I really hate to say it, but... I was really looking forward to receiving this and setting it up. As soon as I did, there were intermittent, loud popping sounds, and then an intermittent, loud hissing sound as I walked away from the receiver (in my house). I owned a Samson unit, and now own Sennheiser and Line6 units, and have never experienced something so unusable out-of-the-box. I adjusted the gain on Rcvr and Xmtr and any other adjustments I could find, tested the battery, etc -- but no joy. Had to send it back. I suppose I got a bum unit b/c no one could sell systems that fail like this.

I have used akg wd 40 single diversity for many years long enough that they went to a new freqency
never had trouble ,.mainly used for head set vocals but now for fiddle too original headset wasnt good enough so I went to the 520-l clear as a bell I have played out abought 30 years plus
they say not to put it in a rack but thats where mine has always lived I just exstend the ant out into the room Im actualy looking at maby bying channel c seeing they are so cheap for a second viola ready to go or for backup why would i need three its a lot easyer to just pick up an instrument and flip a switch and play no unpluging anything {:

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:
If you want to give wireless guitar a try, this is the unit for you! Very reasonably priced and made by an excellent, longtime company. (AKG)
This system was easy to set up and use. It has everything that is needed and the functions are easily understood. I bought two units for my band. One unit had a small problem that necessitated a return to Musician's Friend. What a wonderful experience in dealing with the return. The employee at MF made it so easy and pleasant.
The other unit worked as expected. It was so quiet when turned on, I didn't know it was turned on until the guitar was played. The sound of the guitar was very natural sounding and there were no drop outs or interference of any kind. Once you try this product you will never want to use a guitar cord again.I have used the unit at a distance of approximately 60 to 80 feet with perfect results.

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:
This system is very easy to use you just plug and play. In my opinion it has a slight bit of compression or loss of sound quality. It really just sounds different than the cable I use. The tone is good otherwise. I wish it had more than one channel on each system. But for [$] I could go without. Has the perfect cable lenght and its all extremely compact. The range on it is insane I tested it at 275ft going on 300 and it wasnt even line of sight. For [$] this is a killer AKG is a great company to go with!
Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:
We bought 2 of these for my band. They are great. Sounds just the same as using a cable. The battery last as long as advertiesed. I normally change the battery after 5 gigs at 4 hours per gig just to be on the safe side. That's 20 hours. The only thing is you need to be carefull with the transmitter since it is a plastic case. The clip secures it to your strap and i even added another velro strap as a backup just in case. I an thinking of getting a back up since they are so cheap and work so well. We've used ours now for about 10 gigs. We got the A and the C frequencies. This is the first time I have used a wireless but I have been playing for over 40 years and I am very particlular about my sound and gear. I highly recommend this system and it is one of the best "bang for the buck" items I have ever purchased. I guess the only downside for some might be the fact that this system has a fixed frequency and can be used for just 3 players but for your average band of 4 or 5 people this is great. One of my band mates even uses the same wireless system but with the microphone when she runs karaoke and has gotten great results. For you newbees just make sure each band member has a different frequency.
