The Alesis 3632 Dual Channel Compressor / Limiter / Gate is the follow-up to the 3630 Compressor™, the most popular dynamics processor ever made. The 3632 Compressor builds on the popular design and features of its predecessor by providing two independent, full-featured compressor/limiters in one compact rack. It delivers superb sonic quality for any application from studio recording to live sound or broadcast.
Manual or automatic
With the push of a button the 3632 Compressor’s attack and release times can be set to engage automatically depending on the source signal. In this mode, the 3632 applies an optimized amount of compression with no extremes. Want full manual control? Again, just push a button and you have free reign over the 3632’s comprehensive range of parameters. The 3632 Compressor can function as either two individual mono processors, or you can stereo-link them to provide true stereo compression.
Guard your sound
The 3632 Compressor’s Expander/Gate keeps unwanted noise out of your sound. When your signal falls below the threshold you’ve chosen, the Expander/Gate pushes low-level noise down or simply closes the gate depending on the parameters you’ve dialed in. Deny noise access to your audience or your mix!
At the heart of the 3632 Compressor is its VCA (voltage-controlled amplifier), which offers professional-grade performance in terms of distortion, noise, and temperature stability, making everything you hear smooth and consistent.
The 3632 Compressor’s sidechain function on each channel enables you to use it in external effects loops or in other common compressor applications such as ducking: use the sidechain function to trigger compression on a signal when you want it. A second, internal sidechain employs a switchable low-cut filter to help control pumping due to heavy low-frequency content.
With intuitive control layout and bright LED meters that display gain reduction and input/output levels per channel, the 3632 Compressor will give you constant visual feedback. I have the 3630 also. this update to that unit is average at best. of course the price guarantees that. I tried it with an electric guitar through the effects loop and with a bass guitar rig. haven't tried vocals no opinion there. it does seem to sound a little clearer than the 3630. however no matter what I tried it pumped with the guitar. unless you set it to almost nothing, it was noticeable. the 3630 did not do this with the same settings. it did sound much better with my bass rig. that was acceptable. it added a little clarity to my bass sound when compressed and pumping could not be heard to my ears. I know how to set a compressor. and it should not have been pumping the way it did with guitar on some of the settings I tried. the only reason I kept it was it worked rather well on my bass rig. I also own a lexicon mx300 which has much better compression but more expensive. almost bought the DBX. it may be better also.

I use this for my Kick and Snare for live use. Simply by using the channel inserts. Gate works great on both the kick drum and snare. I was compressing both but I recently took the compression off the snare as I fell I really lose a lot of dynamics and you only really need to compress the snare if your really inconsistent. For Kick though it really clears everything up giving a nice punch clears the signal up well. When I'm home I practice in a small place in the furnace room of all places in the basement. So with a lot of natural frequencies bouncing all over the place ready to cause feedback I can gate the kick and snare so well that it takes all the bleeding from the other drums out of the equation. I use in ears with a buttkicker under my throne so you can really tell what the compression and gating is doing to the kick really well. Good product!
