4 channels of premium-quality audio into your computer...without paying a premium.

The iO4 packs power and function into a compact package. No matter which recording software you like, how many microphones and preamps you have, or how large your library of plug-ins and VSTs, you need a way to get audio into your computer.

Compact Connectivity
The iO4 is a compact audio-recording interface for home, project and portable studio recording setups. This four-channel USB device for Mac and PC-based systems enables users to record and monitor up to eight channels of audio (four in and four out) in 16-bit mode or four channels (two in, two out) in 24-bit mode. The iO4 is compact to comfortably fit into a mobile recording rig, laptop bag or backpack, yet contains high-quality components and circuitry suitable for the studio.

Professional I/O
The iO4 has four input channels, each having an XLR microphone input, a 1/4-inch TRS insert for external effects units and a 1/4-inch TS jack that works with line-level sources and can accommodate direct connection of guitars. The iO4 features discrete-design preamplifiers and 48-volt phantom power on each of its four input channels as well for use with virtually all microphones and audio sources.

Producers and musicians will appreciate the ability to connect a second pair of reference monitors or route audio to external effects processors using iO4's four available output channels. For remote tracking and alternative playback, the iO4 has a 1/4-inch TRS headphone output.

Premium A/D and D/A
High quality analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters ensure that every detail of each session or performance gets captured and played back faithfully. The iO4 features MIDI In and Out jacks for playing and controlling software with keyboard and pad controllers, workstations, and other MIDI-compatible instruments.

The iO4 sends and receives eight audio channels on a single USB cable for simple, universal interface to a computer. The USB interface is class compliant for plug-and-play operation with Mac OS X and Windows XP, Vista and 7.

Complete Solution
The iO4 comes complete with a copy of Steinberg Cubase LE digtal audio workstation (DAW) software. Cubase is one of the most popular DAWs in the world thanks to its intuitive approach to composing, recording, editing and mixing. In addition to the included software, the iO4 is compatible with virtually all audio and MIDI software.

Comments about Alesis iO4 4-Channel 24-Bit Recording Interface:

Not sure what the one reviewer is talking about as far as poor quality. Sounds like he purchased a used unit that was pretty abused before hand. Anyway, I got mine a few months ago, and it has been great. 4 ins, good preamps, low latency using asio4all. Not only that, I was able to pair this unit with a second audio device and record with them simultaneously giving myself 6 inputs using asio4all and cubase. This worked great to record my band's demo. We ended up with great results.

Comments about Alesis iO4 4-Channel 24-Bit Recording Interface:

This looks great physically and on paper, but due to their poor quality assurance and low manufacturing specifications/tolerances, that fades away quickly.

To connect to your computer, use the included USB cable... Ooops!!! No USB cable.

"After making all of your connections, plug in the power supply." OK, I guess I'll supply my own duct tape to hold the power supply into the back, because the power port won't hold it by itself, therefore you can't keep the unit powered on. If you get it on and breath too hard or touch the unit, power goes off/on/off/on!

The picture makes this look like it's made of machined aluminum, but of course it's cheap painted plastic (expected). However, I didn't expect the manufacturing tolerances to be so out of wack that they don't even line up corrrectly leaving a rough seam in several places where the top and bottom meet.

The limited one year manufacturer's warranty???? Forget it. Apparently even though they obviously sell a lot of their equipment through online resellers, their warranty is only covered by sale through their listed authorized resellers which of course are only BRICK & MORTAR locations!!!

Comments about Alesis iO4 4-Channel 24-Bit Recording Interface:

Great interface with everything you need for multi-track recording. Its 24bit better than cd recording 1-2 tracks at a time and 16bit cd quality when doing 3-4 tracks at once (into separate tracks on your DAW.) This should cover all your needs for "studio style" recordings. 4 mics on the drummer and recording the guitar/bass amps stereo or plus the clean signal for reamping as a backup, both at 24bit. There is a volume and analog out for your monitors and a separate volume for headphones so you are setup to listen any which way while connected to the DAW via USB. If you are looking for more separate tracks recorded at the same time than 4, you will need to go to a firewire or thunderbolt interface. Nice efficient size footprint for all the features. Great value!
