These are great speakers for the dollars. I have a masters in recording engineering and have worked with many monitors. These are very good. VERY flat response. They are not $1,000 studio monitors but, bery close. You should not expect to use these monitors as computer or stereo speakers or expect a "cabinet tuned" wide dynamic listening response from them. THESE ARE MONITORS NOT GENERAL SPEAKERS!!!! These monitors require a good EQ and some time to tune them to your room. They also require a good amp and a resonable power amp to push them. Don't low-ball your amp or EQ. Don't cheap out! These speakers will take good equipment to make them talk. Don't expect to drive them using your AVR or low quality amp.
They have a VERY flat sound and a very tight bottom end. Very good sound and quality for the money. I don't think you will find a a better nearfield monitor for the price.
If you take some time to tune these speakers (1/3 octive per ch. minimum) to your room and have ample power to drive them, you will not be disappointed.
These monitor are very close to 1db +/- for both highs and lows. It's doesn't take a guru to get these tuned into your room and get them setup for good mix.
None or VERY minimal distortion on the low end. These guys will take a wide variety of music but seem more tuned for rap/pop/R&B but also perform very well with tight bottom rock and 50's 60's style music.
No, I didn't re-discover my music collection when I purchased these but, I did scan though many different styles to demo. I'm pleased.
As long as your mixing tight and loud, you will be pleased.

These have great reviews and I have a robust audiophile amp which handles low ohm loads collecting dust so I opted for passive monitors rather than active. The first pair shipped had a damaged tweeter in one of the pair shipped (they are sold in pairs). The tweeter cone was pushed in. I sent them back. I just got the new set and the first speaker I open has a damaged tweeter cone AGAIN. This is coming out of an unopened factor box, twice. This tells me Alesis has poor quality control. I won't waste my time trying a third attempt. They are going back for a refund.

Comments about Alesis Monitor 1 MKII Passive Monitors (Pair):
For the price, these can't be beat. Got these on sale at Musician's Friend. Free shipping, and they arrived in 3 days. Money well spent. I have these paired with an old 100 watt stereo amplifier in my home studio. They're clear, accurate, with good bass response. When I'm mixing, I can hear every detail. To me, passive monitors are the way to go. Active monitors all run hot and if the amp goes, so does the whole (expensive) speaker.
Bottom line: get these, you won't be disappointed.

I am using these in my band room and I wish they had a grill on the front to protect the speakers from inquisitive hands. The sound quality is first rate and they take up much less space then the 1980's speakers that I have been using. Grat sound for the price.

For the money, you can't beat them. They sound better than speakers costing $$$$ more.
Don't listen to me, try them your self and hear the difference. Just the right blend of treble , mid and base. Like a good mic, you can hear everything.
Built to last
You can't beat the price

Comments about Alesis Monitor 1 MKII Passive Monitors (Pair):
I've only had these for a short while, but I think they are just great. This is my first pair of studio monitors, but I have owned a lot of mid high audio speakers, so I do know good sound when I hear it. This speakers sound fantastic. Everything is nice and tight with a nice sparkling high that isn't shrill. The bass isn't very pronounced, but it's my understanding that it is good for this type of speaker. The low end is nice and tight and does not distort. I might add a subwoofer at some point. These sound very accurate, very close to the way I hear the music through good studio headphones. I'm very happy with this purchase.
Comments about Alesis Monitor 1 MKII Passive Monitors (Pair):
I've been working with these for almost a year now. Before this I was working with M-Audio BX5A monitors. I found that these are a lot more accurate, and they don't cause the ear fatigue I was getting when I was working with the M-Audio speakers. These are not monitors I would use to mix super bass intensive music, but there aren't many near field monitors I can think of that can do a really good job of getting that sound without a sub-woofer. I can pull all the detail out of my mixes, and I've listened to a lot of stuff to compare my mixes to on them, and they show stuff that most speakers just can communicate. Sure there are better monitors out there, but I haven't seen any for close to this price.
Comments about Alesis Monitor 1 MKII Passive Monitors (Pair):
I've been using & abusing these for over 2 years. My mixes still come out incredible. Be sure to couple with a subwoofer to avoid exaggerated bass. Best value speakers I've ever bought.
