Alto

Active 800W 2-way 12" loudspeaker.

Part of Alto's TRUESONIC series, the TS112A is an 800W Class D powered loudspeaker with a 12" low-frequency transducer and 1" neodymium driver. It provides you with two mic/line combo inputs with independent volume controls and an XLR output for linking to other speakers. Their lightweight, trapezoidal cabinet makes it easy for you to use it as a traditional upright loudspeaker or as floor wedge monitor, and it's stand or pole-mountable as well as flyable. Other features include a clip Limiter with red LED, ground Lift switch, and a contour switch for increased EQ control.

Versatile Cabinet Design
All TRUESONIC 2-way speaker cabinets have been designed with versatility and longevity in mind. They feature a durable, lightweight polypropylene enclosure that is stand mountable for weekend gigs and flyable for more permanent installations. What's more, they have a trapezoidal design which greatly decreases the resonance of the standing wave in the cabinet for a more true and exact sound reproduction. The TRUESONIC TS112A is ideal for musicians and DJs on the move and halls, malls, schools, houses of worship and more.

Total Transparency
The TRUESONIC Series was designed from the ground up to be the most transparent loudspeaker money can buy. Rigorous testing and thousands of hours of listening have gone into making sure that what you pump into a TRUESONIC speaker is exactly what you get out. Everything you see (and some things you don’t) – from internal signal path and components used to the sculpted cabinet and meticulously designed waveguide – was developed in service of the principle of accurate, transparent sound.

Super Efficient Drivers
The drivers in the TRUESONIC TS112A are designed to make sure that virtually no energy is wasted. That translates to more of the power from the amplifier actually working to generate sound rather than heat, giving the speaker better real world performance than other speakers with comparable published specifications. The TRUESONIC TS112A offers a 12" LF driver (2" voice coil) and a 1" HF neodymium driver .

Modern amplifier design
Every active TRUESONIC speaker benefits from the use of a Class D amplifier integrated into the cabinet. Class D amps are generally lighter than Class A and AB amplifier designs, and offer more than enough power to provide your performance with plenty of punch. The TRUESONIC TS112A delivers with 800 watts of power and offers a balanced combo jack (XLR/TRS) input with level control. Class D amplifiers are also highly efficient and run cooler than other kinds of amps so the amp doesn't have to work as hard to deliver your mix.

Hang 'em High
Optimal speaker placement can be challenging, especially if your speakers don't have what it takes to go anywhere. Whether you need to fly your speakers, pole mount or use them as floor monitors, TRUESONIC speakers are ready for you. All TRUESONIC speakers feature standard 36mm pole mounting insets on the bottom. If you need to fly them, it's no problem. The TS112A comes with five rigging points. All these options make the TRUESONIC one remarkably venue-friendly speaker. You can use them anywhere you need them.

Just what you need
Whether you're performing at a coffee house, wedding, house of worship or other small to medium-sized venue, the TRUESONIC TS112A is your best choice. For example, it's easy to get your TRUESONIC speakers to the gig thanks to their carrying handles and lightweight design. Once you're there you won't need to be a live sound engineer to figure out how to EQ the speakers thanks to the built-in Contour EQ switch that can help adjust for those situations where need an EQ alternative for recorded music playback. When you're connecting everything, the TRUESONIC's dual XLR/combo inputs make easy work of your setup and each speaker's independent level controls give you the flexibility to dial everything in your way in seconds.

Full metal grille
You can never be too safe around the stage. We know stuff happens that you just can't predict. Sometimes it's the flying drumstick, a falling mic stand or worse. Every TRUESONIC speaker comes with a complete front grille from top to bottom that protects not only your low frequency driver, but your high frequency driver as well. With TRUESONIC speakers, you get extra peace of mind knowing that whatever comes at your sound system, it's covered, literally.

I run a small 7 man multi-op entertainment compnay in St. Louis, and music is my FULL time job. We do everything from live music, to open mic nights, PA rental, karaoke, private and corporate events, trivia. YOU NAME IT.

That being said, I don't know that I would use them for live sound for bands? Maybe just a vocal only, but the low end I don't think would handle the kick or bass very well. I may try them to see how they handle a plain 4 string next week and edit this later. As of right now, I am considering changing all of my systems over to these as long as they can prove to be reliable. I was switching everything to the K series, but for a 1/3 of the cost, I don't think I can justify the pricetag difference, especially when compared head to head.
Pretty simple 2 inputs and one thru output on the back, with a volume control for left and right, or 1 and 2 depending on how its termed. It would be nice to have a seperate switch for Line/Mic input and perhaps some RCA inputs as well.
The clarity of this product up until a certain volume level compares ALMOST to my QSC K12s. I have had them side by side, and played everything from country, rap, dance, blues, jazz, pop, and classical through them, the QSC's come out ahead in every category, but I do believe a lot of it has to do with the actual LF driver used in these ALTOs. They lack a bit in the low-mid freq range and don't have the THUMP that the K12s do while in DEEP mode, but that is due largely to the K12's DSP built into their amp and a better driver. In Normal mode, they were almost head to head with the K12's sounding a bit more natural and not as colored, but the clarity was every bit as much there. I even A/B'd them against one another to a couple of regular customers at the end of the night, who actually preferred them over the K12 not knowing the cost comparison between the 2 speakers.
For the 300 dollar entry price that I purchased them at in April of 2012? Seriously? As long as their reliability equals the sound quality, the value is FANTASTIC. As an owner of 5 FULL PA systems (including subs monitors tops etc), from JBL to EV, to QSC, for smaller venues and straight DJ playback, these are fantastic.

I consider good reliability of an electronic device to extend well beyond the warranty period. Repair costs, when needed, should be commensurate with intial price. Unfortunately, neither of these requirements or expectations are met with this unit. I purchased new from MF in April of 2012 and until June 14, 2014 this unit performed well as a keyboard monitor. It failed on the job. Suddenly, no output from the XLR output to the main PA board and huge ground hum. Had to finish the gig using a mic in front of the cabinet plus ground lift. The unit is out of warranty now (had 2 year warranty). Alto customer service refused to provide the circuit diagram so that a local shop could fix it economically. Alto has only two authorized repair stations in the US - one in California and the other in New Jersey. That's seventy five minimum in shipping costs (round trip) from my home in NC to Midland Park, NJ. Repair estimate was approx one hundred twenty five to repair. This amounts to almost 2/3 of the original price -NO WAY! I realize there are numerous other manufacturers of audio/musical equipment that blow you off once the warranty expires but KNOW that ALTO is one of these and buy the maximum warranty possible if you intend to order any of their products. I've had a Behringer powered speaker that's worked reliably for the past 6 years.

Comments about Alto TS112A 12" Active 2-Way Speaker:

I had a Alto TS 112A quit working and took it to a very reputable repair shop in Dallas who told me that Alto was completely incooperative and wouldn't send them a schematic to troubleshoot the circuits - Alto quoted more for the power supply board and the input board then the speaker is worth. I just sold my remainding three speakers and bought EV. Alto needs to support their products. Fair warning - if you buy these and they break just plan on throwing them in the trash.

Comments about Alto TS112A 12" Active 2-Way Speaker:

I bought these speakers on the advise of Musicians Friend. They only lasted for 3 shows, then just stopped working. Have warranty but it is only through alto, and they want me to pay shipping and may take 4 months to get back. Cant believe musicians friend would recommend these. I have always trusted musicians friends advice. Never again

Comments about Alto TS112A 12" Active 2-Way Speaker:

With mostly good reviews and a few bad ones, here's my take.....

Unboxed these to find them packaged well. The molded cabinet seems to be well built and sturdy with plenty of handles. You won't have a problem carrying this around or putting on stands.

I did an A-B comparison to the EV ELX112P's that I have. In the mid range on a stand the Alto's were a little harsh with not much low end even with the "contour" switch engaged. I had them hooked up direct not eq'ed. So I believe eq would help these a lot. Got them on the floor for monitors which is why I bought them in the first place and WOW! do they shine. The bottom end was really coming out in these babies! Also the mid range was no where near as harsh and crystal clear highs. I was a little concerned about the cooling fan but it works very well and IS quiet. I never took these to the limit so I can't say much about the limit light. They were plenty loud at 70%. The on e thing I really like about these is the back panel is super simple with only 2 inputs and 1 master control for each. This has been a complaint from other reviewers. Like having the lack of on board eq and so forth. I think this is a huge plus as you can do all that from the board and rack gear. Also has balanced 1/4 in. inputs as some other powered speakers don't have this option. Over all this is a ok looking speaker but does the job as floor monitors very well. I can't speak to durability as I've only been using them a few hours. I also received stands with this purchase and I must say they are nice as well. At any rate if you need some stage monitors these will fit the bill.

I can't say enough about Musician's Friend customer service. They are a real help to say the least.

Comments about Alto TS112A 12" Active 2-Way Speaker:

My band was using a small combo pa to practice. Ended up getting some cash from a battle of the bands and decided to upgrade our pa. After searching reviews, I settled on this newer company. They sound great. Bought a small mixer to run vocals through. Bumps music nicely for in between set changes (it can get very loud). I never had the volume (on each main speaker) more than 1 o'clock for any venue so far (we play small to medium sized concert halls and bars). Also recently bought the powered monitor from Alto so we can hear ouselves. Next up is the 12" powered woofer they make, and I'll have a decent little system to play out and dj with. I've owned the my 2x 12" mains for about a year and a half now, the monitor about 2 months. I'm going to stick with them. It's versatile, and easy to transport. You'll need to bring a few extra extention chords though considering each one needs it's own outlet.

Comments about Alto TS112A 12" Active 2-Way Speaker:

I bought two of these to replace passive monitors and an amp.....
Before these speakers, we had mad feedback problems at half the venues we play....
After getting these 2 speakers.....ZERO feedback issues!
I'm running them straight from the AUX 2 output, no EQ, no processing....and our stage sound is louder and clearer than its ever been! No more complaints of not hearing ourselves.
Plus if one of our QSC K12 mains go out we'll throw one of these on the sub pole to finish the gig. Versatile speakers!
If we replace the other three passive monitors we'll get more of these. But the two have pretty much fixed our problems!

The only negatives, minimal hook up functions, and no eq on the speaker. But really that is being nit picky.

The only other powered speakers you will find in this price range is behringer...which I have used. These blow them out of the water!

Comments about Alto TS112A 12" Active 2-Way Speaker:

I bought this to use as a monitor for my PODXT Live at home and for playing at church. I also have a Roland KB amp, but prefer this active speaker due to sound clarity and weight. The Roland has two more inputs, but the Alto has a horn (instead of piezo tweeter) and a tighter sound. It marries up great with the XT Live and gives very good guitar (both acoustic and electric) tone. The tone is not as rich as my DRRI, but only having to carry one amp/speaker set up can't be beat when playing my Taylor T5. I haven't used it in a PA application, but it works great as a monitor. I was concerned that the minimum volume might be too loud, but that is no issue at all. Instead it does require a pre-amped signal to achieve a powerful volume, so running through a pre-amp or mixer may be required. All in all, I'm very pleased with the purchase. Having two separate inputs in nice, but a lack of EQ onboard is the one category where is loses out to the Roland. No EQ is nit-picking for the price and that fact that it is designed as a PA speaker/monitor rather than a KB or guitar monitor.

I purchased 2 of these for use with my Boss GT-8 and Eleven Rack. They sound amazing. I was playing through a power amp into a 2x12 and 4x12 and these match the tone quality of Vintage 30s. Sold the power amp and I now go direct into these. They are fairly light weight and have handles on the sides and the top for easy carrying. You can get some really great stereo sound with PAs because you can separate them. I would recommend these for use with guitar multi-effects processors. It has a contour button which makes the guitar processors sound even better. Im not a DJ but Im sure they would excel with that application too.
