Comments about American Audio PXW18P 18" Powered Subwoofer:

Have owned one for 18 months. We work atleast 3 dates per week, in and out of churches and auditoriums.. Having 5 string bass, heavy kick drum, and a super-low bass singer in a southern gospel quartet, I never thought i'd be happy with this sub.. but, with the 45 day return policy, I thought I would give it a try before spending alot more on Mackie. This sub is exellent. It provides warm, punchy bottom end in auditoriums filled with 1,000+ with only one cabinet.. Week after week, load in..load out, its built like a tank, and has never given one minutes trouble. Great sub, at any price..

Crazy Bass for such low price

Comments about American Audio PXW18P 18" Powered Subwoofer:

I bought a pair of these for our band and these look pretty big and compact. Believe me I'm big, and I couldnt take it out of the box by myself, 170 something pounds of pure power, I still think it's heavier. The sound quality is off the hook, really deep bass and there is no way these babies can get warm, not even a bit, after a couple of hours playing with them full blast. Used them for the first time at a party outside and we covered the entire block with bass. Im surprised with these subs. Don't be fooled by the price they are awesome!

Comments about American Audio PXW18P 18" Powered Subwoofer:

We bought this subwoofer as an upgrade to our backline. Normally Pro-Audio backline support is provided by the venue and/or promoter; but from time to time we are booked and part of the deal is BYOSS (bring your own sound system). So we needed a quality sub - something that could fill a room of 100 to 800 - and this sub does just that!

We were hitting the road for a 3 day - 3 concert weekend and needed this sub on the trailer before we left. It arrived (ABF Freight) exactly 15 mins before we pulled out with the trailer. So we took it off the freight truck and tossed it in our trailer - box, packaging, everything. We arrived at the first venue several hours later, unpacked it from the box, carried it inside (on a flat-bed tow dollie) and put it on stage. No time to read a manual... we looked at the back panel - it made sense - so we connected to the primary backline - into the snake - and once everything else was setup we turned on all the power and BOOM! that thing roars! Normally we spend 10 mins (depending on the room) trying to dial in the kick-drum... but with this sub, we had it Eq'd and leveled in about 2 mins. It more than filled the room (500 seat) and we barely pushed the volume (about 40% output). Although 2 subs provide a balanced 'look' on stage, you do not need 2 subs with this thing. One sub is more than enough for indoor rooms under 850 occupancy.

One thing - has nothing to do with the sub; but if you buy one, you'll need to know this. If you buy the 3-5 day shipping... it's more like 7 day shipping. Due to it's weight (180 lbs) they use a freight company, not UPS or FedEx. So that causes delays in movement. Luckily, I called the freight company and they worked with our schedule to make sure it arrive just in time. That said, it's a great sub and if we need another... we'll get one of these.

Comments about American Audio PXW18P 18" Powered Subwoofer:

Okay, I've been using these since March. We actually have FOUR of these bad boys, and the matching 15" powered top speakers by this company.

First, the cabinets. They are pretty hefty. Thank goodness for the wheels! Looks to be decent construction, as we haven't bashed them apart in all our moving them around. ONE point I don't like is the cut-in handles. They're cut for lifting in one direction, but if you're rolling them on the wheels, and need to lift it, the handles are not cut for that direction. It'd be perfect if they were merely circles so it wouldn't matter which way you're lifting it. This is a two person lift. Not a deal killer in any way, just wanted to mention that. These have been quite durable, and the wheels are good solid gear.

Power! Many of the rooms we played this spring really only needed ONE of these bins, but we used two. They really put out! It's one of the most powerful bass bins I've ever had the pleasure to work with. Now that we're midway into the summer festival season, we've been dragging all four of them along, and they are excellent for outdoors. In fact, we've had to keep them turned down to approximately 40-50% always. We never have turned them up. The times we've run all four subs, I suspect we STILL could have used only half that, and been perfectly fine!

Which brings me to another small but important bit: The gain knob is a tiny black thing with no markings. One needs some paint, fingernail polish, whiteout, tape, something to put on there so you can visually check the gain setting. The crossover knob is the same, yet it has a center detent, which helps one discern the setting. A little clarity on these two important bits would make it perfect. Once again, NOT a deal killer.

We had to open one to reattach a cable to the input jack, but that is the only problem we've found, and we were fairly early adopters of this brand, so maybe the quality wasn't quite run up yet, but we're happy with 'em regardless.
