Digital that preserves all the presence of your most refined performances.

The Aphex 207D Tube Microphone/Instrument Preamp with Digital Out adds AES/EBU and S/PDIF digital outputs to the popular 207 tube preamp, providing direct digital connection throughout your signal chain, with up to 96kHz sampling rates. The 207D also adds word clock for digital clocking synchronization.

The Aphex 207D is an audiophile-quality 2-channel tube mic preamp designed to reveal the subtlety and power of vintage condensers, ribbons, electrets, and popular dynamic mics. MicLim circuitry offers virtually crashproof performance making it a perfect front end for digital recorders. An insert loop is provided for adding effects prior to conversion. Offers up to 65dB of continuously variable gain, 48V phantom power, polarity select, -20dB pad, low cut filter switches, switchable -10dBv or +4dBu operating levels, balanced XLR and TRS I/O, and a delayed turn-on circuit for speaker protection.

The Aphex 207D tube preamp makes use of patented Reflected Plate Amplifier (RPA) technology, a true vacuum tube circuit which has all the desired characteristics without the heat, fragility, sonic variability, short life, and high frequency roll-off of conventional tube designs.

Decent product!

Comments about Aphex 207D Tube Microphone/Instrument Preamp with Digital Out:

It's nice to have a clear, detailed preamp that adds just a little bit of punch to a recording . . . and this apex pre does just that. Sounds good on guitar, good on bass, fantastic on drums, and has a pretty good DI feature. Great quality, I've had this for more than a year of constant use now, and it's held up well. (Go figure, it's made in the USA, not some sweatshop in China). I'm not a big fan of the starved plate tube designs . . . however, this mic pre is clear and detailed. The tube might add a VERY slight bit of compression on some frequencies (or it might just be my ears). All in all, this was a good buy.

Good Deal

Comments about Aphex 207D Tube Microphone/Instrument Preamp with Digital Out:

Simply an outstanding mic pre. Very easy to use. Easy to hook up. Easy to record with. I use this as a front end for an Aardvark 24/96. The Aardvark has dull mic preamps and a worthless compressor circuit. The limiter on the 207D distorts if loaded. So you're not going to get analog overload compression. But the limiting works very well went correctly adjusted and is transparent, inaudible. The circuit sounds warm like a clean tube. The A/D converter is clearly superior to the Aardvark. It is important to use a quality S/PDIF cable. Very big difference in sound quality. I ran the DI section using a Gibson SG to line input. Very flat, very clean, strong signal. All the tonality of the SG was there. Good dynamic range, yet able to push the signal to max. Overall, very, very happy with my purchase. I am having some difficulty getting the machine to work at higher bandwidths than 44.1. But I believe that is the result of the Aardvark and my comparitively slow PC, 2.4G P4. If you want to run at 24/96 you need a 3G or better machine.
