Advanced new features. Better performance. Better sound quality.

Building on the amazing success of the Duet, Apogee incorporated customer feedback and added in advanced new features to create an even better sounding audio interface. The Duet 2 is now the ultimate solution for capturing music with your Mac. With Duet 2, make studio quality recordings of vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards, drums, and anything musical. And because Duet 2 is portable you can take it anywhere your creativity takes you. When it's time to mix, Duet 2's output quality lets you hear your recordings with incredible detail and dimension allowing you to put the finishing touches on your musical project like a pro. Duet 2 sounds so amazing you won’t want to listen to your iTunes library without it.

Better sound quality. A difference you will hear.
Using the very latest technology, Apogee engineers rebuilt Duet to achieve a difference you can hear. From the mic preamps to the AD/DA converters, Duet 2 offers the best of everything Apogee, allowing you to capture your audio with even more clarity and dimension than the original Duet. This is professional sound quality you can take anywhere.

Smooth, detailed world-class mic preamps
The Duet 2 mic preamps feature a new design, all new components and seamless click-free transitions as the gain increases and decreases throughout the incredible range of 0-75dB. This unprecedented feature allows you to dial in the perfect level while delivering ultra-low noise and smooth, crisp detail. Most importantly, the Duet 2 mic preamps are optimized for any sound source, so no matter what you are recording you’ll capture every detail.

Pristine, next generation AD/DA converters
Much like the mic preamps, the Duet 2 AD/DA converters are an all-new design and deliver the purest recordings and best listening experience possible. This totally new design takes the personal studio to the next level with state-of-the-art components and next-generation conversion.

Full Color OLED Display
New to Duet 2 is a full color OLED display. This high resolution screen is the main control center for Duet 2, delivering visual feedback for multiple functions including metering, numeric value for input and output levels, input grouping, and phase, muting, phantom power and Soft Limit indication. With this display you know the status of any input and output at any given moment without having to refer to Maestro or your recording software.

Configurable Touchpads
Duet 2 also introduces configurable touchpads. The 2 touchpads, located on either side of the encoder knob, allow you to quickly access output functions such as “Mute Outputs”, “Dim Outputs”, “Sum to Mono” or “Toggle Headphone Source”. Each are assignable using a drop-down menu within Apogee’s new Maestro 2. This unique feature allows you to select the function you want and access it directly from Duet 2 without having to look at software.

Redesigned Breakout Cable
Duet 2’s new breakout cable is greatly streamlined with 2 combination mic/instrument connectors (XLR and 1/4”) built into a single connector and 2 balanced 1/4” connectors for speakers. The elegant single cable-to-junction design allows for easy cable management and the locking connection to Duet 2 is robust and stylish.

Made for the Mac, Core Audio compatible
Designed exclusively for the Mac, Duet 2 is the perfect centerpiece for any personal, Mac-based studio. Duet 2 is also Core Audio compatible making it ideal for other music creation applications like Pro Tools, Ableton Live and Studio One.

All new Maestro 2 control software
Duet 2 not only benefits from Symphony I/O’s sound quality development, it has been integrated into the completely redesigned Maestro 2 as well. This full version update features a new look and familiar single window, multiple tab interface for quick access to all device and system settings.

It also includes touchpad assignment, Soft Limit selection, output assignments, dim and mute output selection, sample rate selection and an improved low latency mixer. Now all Duet 2 parameters and functions are packaged into a single window design for the most streamlined and user-friendly experience.

Soft Limit for protection from digital overs
An Apogee technology first introduced in 1992 on Apogee’s AD-500 converter, Soft Limit can be heard on countless platinum selling records around the world. Once a technology exclusively reserved for Apogee’s most advanced audio converters, Soft Limit is now available in Duet.

This superior analog design prevents the digital clipping that causes distortion by instantaneously rounding off transient peaks before they
hit the analog-to-digital converter. Soft Limit allows several more decibels of apparent level to be recorded while subtly providing an analog-like warmth to the sound.

4 analog outputs - Separate headphone and speaker outs
In response to a lot of customer feedback, Duet 2 includes 4 analog outputs. Stereo headphones or left & right mono speaker outs can be assigned in pairs to output 1-2 or 3-4 or the low latency mixer and each can be placed in stereo, mono, muted or dimmed modes.

It is now possible for a DJ to monitor a separate mix in headphones while sending a house mix to the club, a live performer to send a click track to in-ear monitors while sending a backing track to front-of-house, and a recording engineer to send a headphone mix to the performer while dedicating the main outputs to studio monitors.

Multi-function Controller Knob
Along with its sleek aluminum chassis, the multi-function controller knob is one of the most recognizable features of Duet’s design. This central control feature allows you to quickly and easily toggle thru Duet 2's inputs and outputs and set levels while looking at Duet 2’s dynamic OLED display.

I loved the sound and ease. But the power chord seemed to be broken. It began crashing 10 minutes into using it. I had to send it back and i am going to try something else.

Comments about Apogee Duet for iPad & Mac Audio Interface:

I used to have a Presonus Firepod FP-10 that did the job for many years when I got into recording. After working in a few local studios and having access to Cranesong converters and Digi-HD equipment I became unhappy with the sound of the Firepod and wanted to get something more professional sounding. The Duet 2 was perfect for this.

It's amazingly clear and the stereo field is huge and open. It's exactly what I was going for. I use some outboard pres (GAP73 is great) to get a warm, vintage sound but the built in pres sound great and are very clear and detailed. I can hear things in old mixes I didn't notice before. At this point I love it so much that I'll probably look into getting a Quartet if I need more channels.

Oh, and the Maestro software is great and super easy to use. That's a huge thing for me. I recently borrowed a friends Saffire Pro to track some drums and the software was so confusing just to get the headphones to work. Made me really appreciate how easy the Apogee stuff is to use.

Comments about Apogee Duet for iPad & Mac Audio Interface:

Once I bought the iPad for work functions, I could envision more musical applications. I started slow - Garage Band, playing MP3s, etc. The audio is actually pretty good native to the iPad, but I needed something to connect a good phantom powered condenser. There are several good choices out there for iOS-based audio. Apogee interconnects exclusively with Apple products. That's good because they are proactive with integration to new iOS and Mac OSX releases. That's bad because if you want to use this in a Windows environment, you are out of luck. I use both platforms. But I thought that iPad, Mac OSX, and iPhone integration was important. Installation was easy and well documented. You'll need a free Apogee app to control the Duet. One of the first things you will do is upgrade firmware. Nice. Easy, too. Also the sound quality is fantastic. I use Shure SM81s and KSM44 microphones. The Duet phantom powers them and the D/A converters are very good and support hires audio as well. Also note that you can charge your iOS device thru the Duet - which eliminates concerns with battery life when you record a 4-hour show. GarageBand is fine, but it doesn't do the iPad or the Duet justice. I'm looking a popular 24 and 48 track App to do multitrack which will make recordings made on the iOS platform portable with Pro Tools. This is a pricey sound card, but I think it will be functional for a long time.

Comments about Apogee Duet for iPad & Mac Audio Interface:

The mic preamp on mine went out very quickly but the second channel lasted a few years. Once that went out I went to the company for support. I typed out my whole story and the issue and then received a reply to sign up for their support web site. I did that told the story again and then again and again for another 2 or 3 automated passes until I lost my patience but their automated system informed me "all I had to do" was give them nearly half of what I paid for it new and ship it to them and they'd fix it and send it back to me in 6 weeks or so. Not a single human responded to my issues despite my attempts at getting them to and it was extremely inconvenient to deal with. I was in the middle of recording an EP when this thing went out and Apogee left me and my crew high and dry so I had to use my old Steinberg to complete the task. I would have spent the money to get the unit fixed if a human would have told what they were going to do and why it cost so much but I can't stand companies that think they can make customer support completely inconvenient for the user and completely convenient for themselves through an automated computer system, so great job Apogee management with cutting costs on customer support and leaving your professional users to spend over an hour going jumping through hoops.
I buy from companies with good value and good customer support; 50% is still an F on my grading scale. The unit itself is pretty good for the money but the support is non-existant so this company is a non starter for me and my needs as a professional musician. There are better products that actually offer support that are in the same price range these days so I recommend shopping around before you give this company your hard earned money. Apogee had a good run but they clearly are not interested in return users. It does make a nice paper weight after it stops working though but then again there less expensive paper weights out there too aren't there?

Comments about Apogee Duet for iPad & Mac Audio Interface:

The Duet is a great sounding interface. The preamps are crystal clear with no noise. It work great with My MacBook. The software driver was easy to install and to less than 2 minutes. This is my very first apogee interface and I like it so much I am considering getting 2 apogee symphony as my recording setup when I am ready to depart from my two UA apollos. I primarily bought the duet 2 as a portable solution for recording and mixing on the road. The only drawback to the duet is that it does not have daw control like my forte and you will need the breakout box if you want to connect at least four devices simultaneously. Other than that the duet 2 sound surpassed my expectation. I can't believe how great the preamps sound.

If you're thinking of adding your iOS device to your current set up - don't.
This substitutes your computer in order to use your iOS device. You can record TO your device but not from.
      Thoroughly dissapointed.

The Apogee Duet 2 is a great sounding audio interface. I was shocked at the quality of the mic preamps because the sound excellent for the low price tag of the unit. The interface control software is easy to use and the unit works great with pro tools 10. I like this unit so much that I am considering 2 apogee symphonies as my next studio interfaces.
