Personally I use it for recording guitar using my M-Audio Jamlab USB interface which is really just an external sound card with hi-z guitar interface for a computer with 24 bit 48khz abilities. I then run Native Instruments Guitar Rig 3. The M-Audio Jamlab is awesome and it's the only usb guitar interface I've found that will give you 6ms of latency without a hickup. To get to the point, if you're using a computer setup with some sort of usb interface and modeling software this is the final piece of the puzzle for you. Although the m-audio device is high fidelity and the software amp modeling software is top notch, still the guitar signal has a heart of cold. You might be tempted to buy a new pickup for the bridge.. Or even buy a new guitar or some other hair brained scheme.. DON'T! Listen Up! Tubes are REAL and Amp modeling is PRETENDING to be real.. when you send your guitar through this great tube pre-amp, the REAL and the PRETENDING come together and make something truly beautiful.. I tried all sorts of pedals from compressors and sustainers and level boosters and even other kinds of pre-amps and had no luck. I even tried the DOD Milk Box with the hope that it would add some sort of dimension or warmth that I craved.. You think, "If you could somehow just compress your tone and control it, everything will just work out.." What you're really thinking is that if you compress your tone it will sound like a mastered cd.. IT WON'T. This ART Tube MP Project Series device is finally what I was searching for.. I bought it on a whim.. in the 90's I owned an Art Express 2000 effects processor and I remember how great the tube tone sounded in that device. back in the 90's there was a fad for effects processors to have a real tube in the pre-amp. So I was curious about this. This thing is great becuase it doens't change your tone or EQ at all.. it's very transparent.. it just turns your tone into a tube-tone like a real tube amp.. then modeling software is at your mercy.. I get deep beautiful AC/DC distortions or even vintage Jeff Beck or Eric Clapton or Mark Knopfler clean blues tones.. some people even run this right into the board with nothing else and get really nice sweet guitar tones.. I'm very happy.! Get one!! You'll love it..

Comments about ART Tube MP Project Series Tube Microphone/Instrument Preamp:
Very good value for the price
I'm very satisfied with my recent purchase of an ART mic/guitar preamp. The tone and overall sound quality from my Shure PG 42 microphone is amazing. The preamp allows me to sing from a distance of six to twelve inches away from the microphone and still have enough recording level without normalizing the track for the mix. This eliminates background noise and his on the track. It also makes for great acoustic guitar recording through the microphone provided you have a noise free room to work in. Great little product for the price.

I use this little thing in Line on my ampeg B2R and it pump up my gain and change my solid state to a hybidre. Basicaly I bypass the B2R preamp and warm up with the Tube MP. It result to a powerfull warmmy/punchy tone. I tried A/B test with & without, the most segnificant thing is the increase of the gain & volume, but also have more warm and you get more defenition with the filter on. If you had the chance to try a hybidre bass head before, like a SWR, you will understand what mind of improvment you can get with the MP. finaly for bass player who want to upgrade is rig without losing is budget, you have this little baby.

The Alesis Mixer Is Better.
This product was the heart of my music productions. I loved it and respected its qualities and abilites. I loved it. Enough said. But the Alesis Mixer is great compared to this. Now this product is just laying waiting to be used. Good buy for the price.

BOTTOM LINE: I gig twice a week and started using it on my acoustic night at a tiki bar for my Breedlove acoustic which already sounded good. I then tried it one night for my vocals (along with a BBE Sonic Stomp) and, voila, nice warm vox...the Breedlove takes care of itself. Unbelievable value and haven't had one problem in a year.

As with the anonymous reviewer before me, I have had two different TUBE MP preamps. They both went out on me after about 6 months of light to moderate use. Great sound and warmth when the y were working, just didn't last very long.

I bought this for a preamp for my Fender Rhodes piano paired with some Leslie 60's Piano speakers. It does exactly what it's suppose to. I could have spent a lot more for other preamps that wouldn't make this Rhodes sound any better
Comments about ART Tube MP Project Series Tube Microphone/Instrument Preamp:
Very pleased with the silky smooth sound from this ART Preamp. Performs wonderfully in combination with my Shure SM7B microphone. Had been using another ART Tube MP Professional Mic Preamp/Processor with equally great results. This ART unit delivers even better quality for just a slightly higher investment. Commercial clients and broadcasters give favorable reviews on the voice-overs and spots I produce. They're happy ... I'm happy.

Got this great little gadget yesterday, used last night at my live show. It does exactly what ART says it does - adds some tube warmth to whatever it's hooked up to. I plug my guitar & fiddle into it, then straight into the board - huge difference - now my guitar & fiddle sound like they're supposed to. Saves me having to lug around a guitar amp. I'll give it a try on my recording soon.As for "noise", it explains that right there in the manual. I get no noise, because I'm using it properly. This is a great little unit, and very affordable - 5 stars.
Comments about ART Tube MP Project Series Tube Microphone/Instrument Preamp:
I use this with a bass that has passive pick ups, and then run from this unit into my combo amps "active" inputs and I cannot tell you how many positie comments I get on my bass tone- makes the notes sound like lower piano tones- warm, pure, and FAT
